INTRODUCTION
Designing a network can be a challenging task. To design a reliable, scalable networks,
networks designers must realize that each of the three major components of a network has a
distinct design requirements. Attempting to optimize networks that feature thousands of nodes can
pose even more complex problems.
Despite improvements in equipment performance and media capabilities, network design
is becoming more difficult. The trend toward increasingly complex environments involving
multiple media, multiple protocols, and interconnection to networks outside any single
organization’s dominion of control. Carefully designing networks can reduce the hardships
associated with growth as networking environment evolves.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We would like to thank God for giving us everything we need. And for each and every
one of us in this group who gave time and effort to make the completion of this case study
possible.
We are deeply grateful to our professor, Ms. Maricel Y. Villalino, who gave us the basic
knowledge, tools, and motivation in pursuing this project although it is a challenging course it is a
worthy learning process.
Special thanks should be given to our fellow student who helped us in many ways. Finally, words
alone cannot express the thanks we owe to our friends and families, for their encouragement and
assistance.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this case study is to apply the knowledge of our group gained in our Cisco
Networking class.
From this point on, we’ll have to effectively design a 10th floor building with biometrics
system that would serve as attendance recorder and that would automatically generate payroll. We
also need to remember that the hosts can access the Internet for some reasons. And some
departments can access the server. Server must have back-up. Wifi connection must be available
at the employee’s lounge. End devices will be distributed based on department’s need. The range
must be indicated as well as the size of the lounge room. Specifications of the PC requirements
must be highly considered due to the specified task for each department. Number of host was also
given by our professor and need to be met by our designed network.
GIVEN REQUIREMENTS
Design a 10-floor building with biometrics system that would serve as attendance recorder and that would automatically generate payroll. Put in mind that not all hosts can access the Internet for some reasons. And some departments can access the server. Server must have back-up. Wifi connection must be available at the employee’s lounge. End devices will be distributed based on department’s need. The range must be indicated as well as the size of the lounge room. Specifications of the PC requirements must be highly considered due to the specified task for each department. The following are the no. of hosts required:
Reception - 2

QUOTE OF THE WHOLE DESIGN
The building is a 10-floor building. Each floor consists of one or more rooms. All
computers in one room are connected to a switch. All switches are connected to one main switch
that is located in the IT Department in 5th Floor. That switch is connected to 2 routers and to the
internet.
The Server that can access all the networks in the building is located in the IT department
in the 5th floor. The switch in the IT room is connected to 3 servers. 1 will be the main server, and
the other is the back up server.
Not all host can access the internet. The training room, Examination room and the two
conference room cannot access the internet. The server is blocking the IP address of the hosts in
those rooms.
There is a biometrics system that would serve as attendance recorder and that would
automatically generate payroll. It is located in the 1st or ground floor in the reception area. The
biometric system and the computers in the reception are connected to the same switch.
There is also a lounge room with wifi connection in the 1st floor. The range is able to reach
all the location in the lounge room. The wireless device is being connected to the switch in the IT
department.
Floor Assignment:
1st floor - There will be a receptionist desk near the entrance. It's for the inquiry need of the guest
that will visit the building. Biometric system and the lounge room with wifi connection
is located in this room also. Biometrics
2nd floor - Training room and examination room is located here. The two rooms have no access to
the internet. Because there is no need for the computer that is used for exam and
training to use the internet.
3rd floor - Customer assistance is located in this floor. This is where the employee will assist
customer and answering their concern about the company.
4th floor - Marketing aepartment, audit department and accounting department is located in this
floor. These department will need to communicate with each other often, that's why they
are located in the same floor
5th floor - The IT room is located here. The IT department is responsible for handling passwords,
order processing, product and service questions, pricing information, system transfers,
and general inquiries.
6th floor - Audio visual department and graphic & design department is located here. These
department will need to communicate with each other often, that's why they are located
in the same floor
7th floor - Software enveloping laboratory is located in this floor. The location is near the audio
visual, graphic and design, and IT department because it has some similar function so
they can communicate easily.
8th floor - Research department and quality control department is located in this floor. The quality
control department has no internet connection because this is the place where the
employee will check their product and productivity. There is no need for the internet.
9th floor - Staff office is located here, where the staff will settle and work on their task.
10th floor - Two conference rooms, presidents and vice presidents office is located in this floor.
The conference rooms doesn't have access to the internet. Because this is the place to
handle meeting or seminar which not requiring the internet.
