Students are invited to HMC to learn more about social net- working tools and how they can use it to find a job after graduating. “How to Network in Cana- da is a workshop for interna- tional students, which is des- tined to teach our newcomers the basics of the culture of effective networking in Cana- da,” said Andrii Sadlak, pres- ident of the Sheridan Interna- tional Student Association. “The [workshop] is put to- gether by the international society to reach out to gradu- ating students of all campus- es and improve the students’ chances to find the job they really want and become more confident when it comes to communication.” Mandi Buckner, a career support specialist, will host the event. “Mandi Buckner is a re- markable speaker and an ex- pert on the subject of network- ing,” Sadlak said. Sadlak says that social net- work profiles are useful when it comes to searching for a job. However, students should also be aware of how to create the perfect profile to improve beer job choices. LinkedIn allows people to post their resumes online and allows them to find jobs that might not be advertised by traditional means. “Ninety per cent of jobs aren’t adver- tised,” Monaco said. Monaco was one of Linke- dIn’s first 4.5 million members and his profile sits in the top 10 of most engaged profiles on the global network. Linke- dIn has grown to include 277 million users worldwide with nine million users in Canada. “Our number one goal for the people who use our site is to provide unique economic op- portunities,” Monaco said.
