ACC Candidate Sandra Kennedy issues a new press release. As the election is com-ing up in November, and it is not too late to register to vote, it is important that voters are aware of the issues at hand. Whether you agree with a candidate or not, having the information available aids voters when the polls open.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Arizonans deserve better. This past spring, the Arizona Corporation
Commission adopted their own “Code of Ethics,” created within the regulatory body itself – a body whose members are clearly out of bounds when it comes to protecting the public good, over the self-interests of the utility monopolies they were elected by the public to regulate. It is disturbing the newly-adopted “Code” allows utilities to buy “food, refreshments, airline tickets, hotel rooms or other items” for commissioners as long as the utilities don’t have “pending matters before the Commission,” or the “purpose of the trans-action is not, or does not appear to be, de-Continued on page 16

Good Food Recipe: Turkey Lettuce WrapsRecipes From Local BusinessesBy San Tan Valley Fit Body Boot Camp
Got a sweet tooth but still want to eat healthy?
Then try making these delicious turkey lettuce wraps! They’re protein-based, healthy, and just sweet enough to satisfy your tastebuds.
In this recipe, the organic ground turkey is sprinkled with a bit of ground cinnamon, and each wrap is topped with a tasty apple chutney. Oh, and all of it sits on a bed of lettuce, which reduces the amount of carbs in each wrap. They’re also great for when you’re on the go and in need of a healthy snack.
Ready to tackle this one? Then read the in-structions below to get started!
Ingredients• 12 large romaine lettuce leaves• For the Cinnamon Ground Turkey
Rice• 1 tablespoon of olive oil• 2 carrots, shredded• 1/2 of a yellow onion, minced• A dash of sea salt• 1/2 of a teaspoon of ground cinnamon• 1 lb. of organic ground turkey• 1 head of cauliflower, shredded
Note: To shred, cut the cauliflower into
florets and run through a food proces-sor with the grating attachment

der• A sprinkle of sea salt InstructionsFor the cinnamon ground turkey rice: Pour the olive oil into a large skillet over medium heat. Add in the carrots and onions, then cook until soft (about 3 minutes). Add in the salt, cinnamon, and ground turkey. Cook until the meat is no longer pink. Add in the head of shredded cauliflower, rai-sins, broth, and pepper. Cook until heated through (about 4 minutes).

Today’s global community challenges each of us to engage people and cultures we might not fully understand. The more we travel, the more likely we are to connect local issues to global ones—and the more culturally aware we become in an increasingly interdependent world.
Communication Studies will offer a study abroad experience through an Intercultural Communication course in Spring 2019. Participants will ex-plore Intercultural Studies in Tokyo and Mount Fuji March 9-16. Discover limit-less opportunities during an immersive week in Japan’s capital. Students must complete a 10—week course in Intercultural Communication to participate. They will experience Japanese history and culture, engage in Japanese language and Japanese cuisine. Scholarships are available.

signed to influence official action.” This unseemly practice should be strictly prohib-ited at all times, not just when a matter is pending. Otherwise, this remains an eth-ical loophole of enormous consequence – which we’re witnessing in the news on an almost daily basis. From the forced resignations of three Com-missioners -- for lobbying activities, conflict of interest and possible illegal activities
-- to millions in dark money spent to elect utility-friendly candidates, to the recent, quick approval of unjustified rate increas-es, the public has every reason to be worried. When I served on the Commission, com-missioners were committed to providing safe, healthy, fairly priced utility services to ratepayers through an open and transpar-ent process. My, how the times have changed… Dark money campaign expenditures and blatant political spending have tipped the scales in favor of the utility interests over public interests. The new game is “Pay-to-Play.” It shouldn’t, and doesn’t have to be this way. We need elected officials who are willing to stand up for the people. We need elected offi-cials who are willing to strengthen the rules, not bend them. We need to restore the pub-lic’s trust, increase transparency and put
the best interests of Arizonans front and center. Adopting the Judicial Code of Conduct versus the current slippery code doesn’t go nearly far enough. Until Commissioners agree to prohibit con-tributions in any form from anyone who appears at any time in front of the Com-mission for regulatory reasons and gives an outside agency enforcement authority, their “Code of Ethics” is just another version of the old story about the fox guarding the hen house. It’s time for change, because Arizonans de-serve better, and the reign of the “Corrup-tion Commission” needs to end.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------More information on ACC Candidate Sandra Kennedy:kennedyacc2018.comfacebook.com/KennedyACC2018twitter.com/sandradkennedyballotpedia.org/Sandra_Kennedysantantimes.com/qa-with-acc-candidate- sandra-kennedy.STT
