100% RAFFLE WINNERS A HUGE congratulations to Marlborough’s very first winners of the 100% attendance weekly raffle. Dhruv from Bumblebee Class, Ashaz from Diamond Class, Dani from Owl Class and Arjun from Earth Class were lucky enough to have their raffle tickets picked from the hat during our Monday morning assemblies over the past fortnight. They each take home a £5 Toys R Us voucher to use towards the cost of an item of their choice. We congratulate them and applaud their families for their commitment towards having the best possible weekly attendance!
THE UNDECIDED NO MORE!
On Monday 19th September children took part in a democratic ballot to vote on the new name of Marlborough Primary School’s fortnightly newsletter. Children in Years 1 to 6 had to put a cross in the box and decide between the name choices of ‘Marlborough Mania’ and ‘The Magic of Marlborough’. When voting was complete School Councillors, Milly, Marwa with extra help from Suki, took to counting all the ballot papers! A special thanks to our School Councillors and Mrs Fitzgerald for working so hard to have the views of the children heard and reinforcing the British Value of democracy.

Rights to Rhythm Day On Wednesday 14TH September 2016 children at Marlborough Primary School had an exciting and wonderful workshop that involved learning about human rights using music.
Ollie Heath Ollie Heath was a spontaneous, creative and amazing man who came to massive success using music. He inspired many people in the school by his way of living. Ollie Heath told us wonderful stories about how he passed his exams to become a teacher using just one simple technique, MUSIC! He had an amazing loop station that could do many things, but that wasn’t what blew the show away. It was the way Ollie taught the rights in a fun way. Getting started First Ollie introduced himself in a musical way. Then he made us repeat his name to the rhythm. We already knew it was going to be a great performance. Ollie began to show us what cool things he could do with his loop station. It was awesome to watch him change his voice and create music just by pressing buttons. We really enjoyed watching him perform a song he had set up using a app called ‘Garage Band’. We really felt the music.
Human rights Ollie taught us many things, like when human rights were first developed, and how many rights adults and children have. He made it fun by the power of music. Facts: a) Human rights were first developed after the Second World War. b) Adults have 30 human rights. c) Children have 54 human rights.
Finishing Off Ollie had been a wonderful help to us to learn about our rights in a fun and musical way. To finish off he asked two people from the excited audience to help with the rap. Then he used his magical loop station to create something amazing. We loved having Ollie here in Marlborough School and we hope to see other great examples like him as we discover more about being a Rights Respecting School.

I liked the rights workshop because we got to sing and do the beat with our bodies.

level of education of which they are capable.
ON YOUR BIKE…OR SCOOTER!
On Monday 19th September 2016 we welcomed Tash Simpson into school from Sustrans. She came to talk to the children about the benefits of cycling or scooting as a form of exercise and transportation. She had all the children very excited about the possibility of them learning how to learn to cycle safely and confidently in and around Harrow.
Please do encourage children to walk, cycle or scoot to school and make use of our cycle and scooter shelter for parking bikes and scooters.
We are striving to achieve Healthy Schools Bronze status with your support. We will continue to have a range of travel initiatives throughout the year to encourage fit and healthy lifestyles, reduce carbon omissions and protect the world in which we live!
HEALTHY EATING: PACKED LUNCHES AND MORNING SNACKS
Marlborough Primary School is a healthy school. Sadly, we have noticed a number of children with sugary foods and food high in saturated fat in their lunch boxes. Teaching children from an early age about a nutritious, balanced and healthy diet is very important to understanding the long term benefits to children’s health, weight and dental hygiene. Please remember that crisps, biscuits, cake, chocolate (of any sort) and fizzy drinks are not permitted in packed lunches. Children may bring a water bottle and snack to school. The snack can be eaten at playtime. This must only be a piece of fresh fruit. An additional piece of fruit can be bought on days where children attend an after-school club. And finally we are a NUT FREE school and nuts should not be given in packed lunches or snacks OR birthday treats. We have several children with severe allergy to nuts, nut dust including direct contact with nuts to skin. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
NEW AND IMPROVED SCHOOL LUNCHES
Hot school lunches are now cooked on site in Marlborough’s state of the art, brand new kitchen! Universal free school meals are provided to all children in Reception to Years 2. ISS Cater House, Marlborough’s Kitchen Catering Team held taster session on Wednesday 21st September this week and many parents and carers were able to taste the quality of food served during the lunch hour. If you are in receipt of benefits and meet the eligibility criteria, we strongly encourage you to apply for free school meals through Harrow Council. All children in receipt of free school meals are entitled to subsidised trips, music tuition and enrolment in music and school-run after-school clubs which is a great saving. Marlborough Primary School also receives funding to support the achievement and progress of children receiving free school meals. This enables us to widen children’s primary school experience, budget for much needed resources and enables developments in each of our five school improvement priorities!

NEW AFTER-SCHOOL CLUBS
Did you know we now offer a wider range of after-school clubs available to children and families of Marlborough Primary School between 3.30-4.30pm? We believe that in extending the school-run after school clubs, parents and carers will be provided with the peace of mind that your child is able to pursue their talent, hobbies and interests in a safe, protected environment, at a significantly reduced cost compared with alternative after-school providers.
