Dear Families and Community Members

Although the weather still feels like summer, fall has officially arrived and the routine of the school year is well underway. Our clubs, teams, choirs and bands are up and running providing wonderful enrichment opportunities for our students.

In two weeks we will host our final celebration of last year’s academic year with our Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 6 beginning at 9:00 am. We will be celebrating the aca-demic achievements of students who excelled during the second semester of the 2015- 2016 school year. Award winners will receive invitations in their homeroom classes next week. Par-ents and/or family members are welcome to attend; we are inviting each award winner to bring a maximum of two family members.

Interim report cards will be sent home with all students on October 14. If you have any ques-tions about your son’s or daughter’s progress, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers directly. In addition, our first Parent’s Night is scheduled for October 27 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. All parents and guardians are invited to the school to meet the teacher. We will be sending further information home that will explain how to book appointments with your child’s teachers.

For families interested in learning about Ontario Universities the Ontario Universities’ Fair 2015 is taking place this weekend, September 23 - September 25 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. As well, for those families interesting in learning about Ontario Colleges, the Ontario College Information Fair is taking place on Monday, Octo-ber 17 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Tuesday, October 18 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place. GRADE 11 STUDENTS!

IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO APPLY TO THE SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR PROGRAMS!

A Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program is a Ministry of Education approved program . It allows students to focus their learning on a specific career path that matches their skills and inter-ests while also meeting the requirements to graduate from secondary school. SHSM helps to en-gage students in their learning, allowing them to develop specialized knowledge and skills. It also provides students with unique opportunities to enrich their high school experience during Grade s 11 and 12. This program is available to students pursuing all pathway destinations: university, workplace, college and apprenticeship. Students receive the SHSM designation on their diploma when they complete all required SHSM program components.

For detailed information on SHSM Programs and the program components: YRDSB, Ministry

Interested students may wish to speak to a guidance counsellor to review their personal pathway plan.

What is SHSM?
