The Power of Essential Oils –

Imagine this – there’s an earthquake of 8.6 on the Richter scale in your area. You were hit in

the head with chunks of your home falling on you. One of your children has a large

laceration on her arm. And everyone is stressed and emotionally on edge. Since no medical

help will be available possibly for days, for now at least you alone must take care of

everyone’s injuries.

Thankfully, you find your Essential Oil Survival Kit and are able to quickly stop the bleeding

in your daughter’s arm, painlessly cleanse the wound, and set her up for speedy healing with

a few drops of one of the essential oils before you bandage the wound up. For yourself, you

take precautions against possible brain injury with a couple of the essential oils that have

been shown to heal the brain and prevent swelling. And in order to calm everybody down,

you have everyone put on one of the essential oils in the kit that helps to instantly soothe and

reduce even severe stress.

Here’s another scenario. The economy has gotten much worse than it is currently. You are

out of work, and trying to provide the bare-bones basics for yourself and your family. Lines

are long for people like you to see doctors. And besides, you prefer to take care of most

things yourself without relying on doctors and drugs for every little thing. Everyone around

you is getting the flu, and a neighbor woman is 8 months pregnant and has asked you to be

her backup if she can’t get in to the hospital to deliver the baby. She also has a toddler who

is irritable with chronic earaches.

Again, you feel more prepared than most to help keep yourself, your family, and friends

healthy because you have your Essential Oil Survival Kit. You use just a drop or two of one

of the essential oils every day to keep your immune system healthy so you don’t get the flu.

If you happen to start to feel sick, you’ll just use a bit more and will be able to avoid the flu.

As for your neighbor, you let her use one of the essential oils that helps with relaxation and

stress relief, both for herself and her toddler. She is feeling more calm and capable and the

child’s tantrums are fewer. Another of the essential oils helps get rid of the child’s earache in

just a few days.

There are so many uncertainties. But you are just glad that you can take the edge off the

stresses, knowing that you have some powerful tools for health and healing in your back

pocket with your Essential Oil Survival Kit.

How Essential Oils Work

Essential oils are Mother Nature’s pharmacy. They are super-concentrates of aromatic herbs

and plants, naturally rich in the chemicals used by the plants for immune, stress, and

hormonal responses as well inter-cellular communication. Depending on the specific

essential oil, they have properties that can boost the immune system, kill microbes, heal

wounds, relieve pain, balance the mood, even out hormones, and so much more!

Essential Survival www.essentialsurvival.org

Ever since the dawn of humanity, man has harnessed the power of plant medicine. Essential

oils became the foremost medicinal substances in such societies as ancient Egypt and the

Middle East and were used daily by their royalties. They were truly the most prized

commodities in many of these ancient societies, gifts fit for a king. From the ancient

Hebrews using essential oils in their temple rituals, to ancient Egyptians using them in their

beauty rituals, to the Three Wise Men bringing gifts of frankincense and myrrh to the Christ

Child, essential oils have a long and prestigious history. There are over 188 references to

essential oils in the Bible alone!

What’s the Difference Between Herbs and Essential Oils?

Just to compare, it takes 26 cups of peppermint tea to achieve the same effect as one drop of

therapeutic-grade peppermint essential oil! Our therapeutic-grade lavender oil naturally has

over 200 chemical components, which explains how at one time, lavender has significant

anti-anxiety, anti-histamine, anti-inflammatory, and wound healing properties. This one

essential oil can be used for literally thousands of health conditions. It takes 170-250 lbs. of

lavender plant material to make just 1 lb. of lavender oil. So each and every drop of real

lavender oil is a potent, precious, non-toxic natural medicine that you can feel good about

using on yourself, your children, and even your pets.

In summary, essential oils are portable, super-concentrated, versatile, cost-effective, need no

refrigeration, and are chemical-free. You don’t have to worry about bulky bottles, annoying

pills or tinctures, and expirations dates. When used internally, they can work instantly as

they go straight into the bloodstream! They can easily fit in your purse, backpack, or

survival kit. And most importantly of all – they work!

Essential Oil Survival Kit – My Experiences

The Essential Oil Survival Kit comes with 9 different essential oils and essential oils blends.

Over the years using these specific oils, I have been continually amazed with their

effectiveness for so many varied conditions and in so many situations. I would like to share

Page 4: 101 Uses for 9 Essential Oils in a Disaster

Essential Survival www.essentialsurvival.org

just a few ways I have personally used each of these essential oils.

Lavender Essential Oil

(lavandula angustifolia)

Lavender has a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma that is soothing and

refreshing. It is considered the “Swiss Army Knife” of essential oils because of its

versatility. No home should be without it. I have used lavender to stop the

bleeding and quickly heal a large gash on my elbow. I have used it to heal a

severe sunburn on my legs that was purple, swollen, and painful. My mom used

lavender oil on a 3rd-degree burn from a run-in with the oven, and it healed the

burn within just a week and saved her the hassle and expense of an ER visit! I

have use lavender oil during allergy attacks to instantly calm the sneezing, and

take my eyes from itchy and red to normal within several minutes. Lavender got

rid of bad case of eczema for one of my clients. Not even the expensive

prescription creams did that for her!

Peppermint oil (Mentha piperita) --

Peppermint has a strong, clean, fresh, cooling aroma. It has hits a home run

for me every time when I have used it for nausea or digestive upset. One time

when my family got sick with the stomach flu during a vacation, I got rid of

my nausea immediately with applying peppermint oil on my belly. I never

vomited or had diarrhea like all the people around me, who were too stubborn

to try the peppermint oil themselves. My first experience with Young Living

peppermint oil was using it to get rid of a migraine within 5 minutes! I had

struggled with chronic migraines as a child and nothing had ever worked to

get rid of migraines for me – much less within a few minutes! Once when

Page 5: 101 Uses for 9 Essential Oils in a Disaster

Essential Survival www.essentialsurvival.org

camping in a friend’s RV, I used peppermint oil to repel a pesky mouse that

was running around my bed.

Lemon Essential Oil (Citrus limon) --

Lemon oil consists of 68 percent d limonene, a powerful antioxidant. I love

drinking it in my water. Just 1-2 drops of lemon oil in a glass of water is

refreshing and good for you too! Inhaling lemon oil is naturally uplifting. I have

also used it to sanitize my countertops without chemicals, and to easily remove

sticky labels from various surfaces.

Frankincense Essential Oil (Boswellia carteri) --

Frankincense has a sweet, warm, balsamic aroma that is stimulating and elevating to

the mind. I use frankincense oil morning and night on my skin as it dramatically

improves my skin’s texture and appearance. I am 35 years old, and often get

mistaken for someone up to 10 years younger! It really enhances my meditation. I

just apply a drop or two to my forehead and then breathe it in. Thankfully I don’t

struggle with depression or cancer, but frankincense is currently a hot commodity

among scientists who are finding that frankincense has powerful anti-cancer and

anti-depressant properties!

Thieves Essential Oil Blend

(Ingredients: Clove oil, lemon oil, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary oil.)

Thieves was created based on research about four thieves in France who protected

themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague

victims. It has been university tested and shown effective even against such modern

plagues as MRSA. I use Thieves oil daily in my oral care and to clear up problem

skin. I use it to clean my house. Last year I had a mump-like illness that was

healed in a couple of days with Thieves. Countless colds and flus have passed me

over. As soon as I feel an illness coming on, I take Thieves oil internally and I

usually don’t end up getting sick. In fact, I haven’t been to a Western doctor since

Page 6: 101 Uses for 9 Essential Oils in a Disaster

Essential Survival www.essentialsurvival.org

2006. I haven’t needed to! One drop of Thieves got rid of a friend’s toothache

permanently – she never needed to go to the dentist because the problem went away

and never came back!

Peace & Calming Essential Oil Blend

(Ingredients: Blue tansy, patchouli, tangerine, orange, and ylang ylang oils.)

My first experience with Young Living essential oils was with a small bottle of

Peace & Calming oil. Who knew that such a tiny bottle would pack such a large

punch! Peace & Calming helped me get off sleeping medication that I had been on

for over 5 years and was unable to wean off of despite all my efforts. I have used it

to calm babies and small children instantly. Their mothers were amazed! I have

calmed down a stressed-out boss just by having him applying a few drops to his feet

and inhaling it.

Purification Essential Oil Blend

(Ingredients: Citronella, lemongrass, lavandin, rosemary, melaleuca alternifolia, and myrtle oils.)

Purification oil has served me well as a totally natural and non-toxic insect

repellent. Those times I have neglected to use it while camping, I have dabbed

Purification oil on insect bites and stings and it has immediately removed the itch

and pain. I have used Purification oil to help me detoxify from chemtrail exposure,

and to clear the air at home of noxious chemical odors.

PanAway Essential Oil Blend

(Ingredients: helichrysum, wintergreen, clove, and peppermint oils.)

PanAway was created by Dr. Gary Young following a severe injury to the ligaments

in his leg. After getting my health back from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and

fibromyalgia a few years ago, I went to the gym after not being able to work out for

6 years. I overdid it a bit on the weight machines. I went home, took a bath, and

mixed several drops of PanAway oil with almond oil and massaged it into my

muscles as a precaution against pain. The next morning, the only places I was sore

Page 7: 101 Uses for 9 Essential Oils in a Disaster

Essential Survival www.essentialsurvival.org

was a small spot on my upper back and in my armpits – places I didn’t reach with

the PanAway! PanAway is one of my most potent tools to use this with clients

suffering from sciatic problems, muscle & joint injuries, tendonitis, or any type of

pain. It works quickly and with no negative side effects! A very tiny bit goes a

long way.

Valor Essential Oil Blend

(Ingredients: rosewood, blue tansy, frankincense, and spruce essential oils in a base of

almond oil.)

Valor is known as the “chiropractor in a bottle” because of its ability to properly

align both the physical and energetic aspects of the body. I use it on all of my

reflexology clients at the beginning of a session to help them unwind and to

promote healing. I used Valor daily on my feet after a painful divorce and it

helped me to feel more confident and capable.

Why I use Young Living Essential Oils

The supplier of all of the essential oils I am talking about is Young Living Essential Oils –

one of the pioneers of modern medicinal aromatherapy. Prior to using Young Living’s oils, I

had previously used oils from the health food store. After using Young Living’s lavender

and peppermint, I couldn’t believe the difference! It was like the difference between a fine

European cheese and a Velveeta cheese product! (Go to www.essentialsurvival.org and click

on the “Archive” to see articles on therapeutic-grade essential oils vs. cheap counterfeit oils.)

My further research and experiences with essential oils confirmed to me that cheaper

essential oils might be OK to use as a fragrance, but if I wanted therapeutic results I needed

to use real, therapeutic-quality oils.

Essential Oils for Disaster Preparedness

I have been teaching people how to use essential oils since 2005 when I was first introduced

to them and began getting powerful results. In 2008 I began to get serious about disaster

preparedness. Through my own experiences, I began to see how vital it would be for me to

have at least this kit of 9 oils on hand for first-aid, and to help with even serious health

conditions either in conjunction with medical help, or in the event that no medical was

available. After discovering the power of these essential oils for myself and seeing hundreds

of friends, family, and clients benefit from them as well, I wanted to help as many people as

possible to be prepared.

How to Use Essential Oils1. Inhalation. Diffuse with a cold air diffuser (which preserves the chemical structure of the

oils and maintains optimal therapeutic value), put a couple of drops in your hands, rub

them together, then cup your hands over your nose and inhale.

2. Direct application. Therapeutic-quality essential oils like the ones in the Essential Oil Sur

vival Kit may be applied to the skin (avoid eyes, inside the ears, and other sensitive areas).

Oils may be applied neat (undiluted) or diluted with a carrier oil such as organic, cold-

pressed almond oil, refined sesame oil, coconut oil, or olive oil. Essential oils may also be

mixed with Epsom salts, sea salt, or a carrier oil and poured into the bath.

3. Internal use. Many of our therapeutic-quality essential oils may be used internally.

This is done by adding a drop or two of the essential oil to water or rice milk, or by

adding to blank capsules (always add a few drops of a carrier oil such as olive oil to the

capsules as well). Some essential oils can also be placed directly on or under the tongue.

Be careful with “hot” essential oils such as oregano oil.

Natural First-Aid the Essential Survival WayNote – Please also seek medical help, if available, for serious injuries and conditions

Each of the following essential oil tips comes from a mixture of my personal experience and

that of close friends and clients, the experiences of many different people at www.oil-

testimonials.com , the expertise of Dr. Gary Young, ND as recorded in the Essential Oil Desk

Reference, and tidbits from other holistic health providers who have years of experience

using essential oils for a variety of conditions.

These tips are not meant to replace the advice of a doctor, but to supplement such advice and

provide a way for the average person to get real results in the event of an emergency when no

doctor is readily available. That being said, I have personally seen truly amazing results

using these essential oils – oftentimes even better than drugs and creams promoted by

doctors.

Each tip below refers to the use of Young Living’s oils and will take the mystery out of using

essential oils for over 100 common conditions. I would strongly caution you not to

substitute cheaper essential oils, which often have synthetic additives and can do more harm

than good.

Guidelines for Safely Using Essential Oils

1. Always keep pure vegetable oil (cold-pressed organic almond, sesame, coconut, or olive

oil) handy when using essential oils. Vegetable oils dilute essential oils if they cause

discomfort or skin irritation.

2. Keep bottles of essential oils tightly closed and store them in a cool location away

from light. If stored properly, essential oils can maintain their potency just about

indefinitely.

3. Keep essential oils out of reach of children. Treat them as you would any product for

therapeutic use.

4. Do not use essential oil rich in menthol (such as peppermint) on the throat or neck area

of children under 30 months of age.

5. Citrus oils (such as lemon) and blends with citrus oils in them (such as Peace & Calming

and Purification) may cause a rash or a darker pigmentation if applied to skin exposed to

direct sunlight or UV rays within 3-4 days of use. Keep essential oils away from eye area

and do not put in ears. Do not handle contact lenses or rub eyes with essential oils on

your fingers. Oils with high phenol content (such as Thieves) may damage contacts and

irritate eyes.

Page 22: 101 Uses for 9 Essential Oils in a Disaster

6. Pregnant women should consult their health care professional before using essential oils

containing constituents with hormone-like activity such as clary sage, sage, Idaho tansy,

juniper, and fennel.

7. Epileptics and those with high blood pressure should consult their health care

professional before using essential oils. Avoid using hyssop, fennel, and Idaho tansy.

8. People with allergies should test a small amount of oil on a small area of sensitive skin,

such as the inside of the arm, before applying the oil on other areas. The bottom of the

feet is one of the safest, most effective places to use essential oils.

9. Before taking GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) essential oils internally, you may dilute

them in an oil-soluble liquid such as honey, olive oil, or rice milk.

10. Do not add undiluted essential oils directly to bath water. Dilute first in Epsom salts,

sea salts, or an organic, cold-pressed vegetable oil.

Essential Oils and Animals --

Essential oils can be safely used on horses, cattle, goats, and dogs. Use caution with cats by

diluting the oils at least 20/80 in a carrier oil and avoiding strong essential oils such as

peppermint and Thieves. For smaller animals such as birds and hamsters, apply a small amount

to your hands and slowly approach the animal with your hands outstretched. Please go to
