1995 to 2011; London Stock Exchange Group HR Director

In co-operation with the Trustees I directed the London Stock Exchange Group’s pension strategy including:

Early closure of Defined Benefit Plan in 1999 to new entrants with the full support of the Trustees.

With the Trustees, jointly directed investment strategy including early move out of equities, switching 85% of assets into fixed income, followed by gradual build up of property investments, including property derivatives.

Buy-in through an insurance company of pensions in payment to further de-risk the Defined Benefit Plan.

Liability matching - overlaid bond assets with swap derivatives to achieve greater cashflow matching.

Successfully negotiated recovery plan between trustees and company to make good modest deficit of £30m over 5 years.

Regular assessment of the implications for the pension scheme of multiple M&A transactions, enjoying the trust and support of both the Trustees and the Group CFO.

In latter years, strategy has resulted in assets and liabilities (c£300m) being broadly in balance with low levels of funding volatility.

Designed clear concise member and employee communications. This included launch of a new Defined Contribution Plan with high levels of take up of AVCs.

Established Tim Wright Consulting to pursue aim of establishing a portfolio career providing HR Consulting, pension trustee and interim management services. Assignments include:

The Wine Society – Committee Member and NED. The Society was voted National Wine Merchant of the Year by the Decanter World Wine Awards and Wine Merchant of the Year and Wine Club of the Year at the International Wine Challenge, three of the highest wine trade accolades for UK merchants.

Towry – HR Director for leading organisation providing Financial Planning, Wealth Advice and Investment Management services through a national network of c 200 Wealth advisers.

Big 4 Accountancy firm - provided HR advisory services to assist in the development of their integrated HR product offering.

The Big House Theatre Company – providing business mentoring and planning support. The Big House works with care leavers who are at a high risk of social exclusion, providing a platform for them to participate in the making of theatre and develop social; and employment skills.

Dyslexia Action – completed a training needs analysis and recommended a learning and development framework.

LSEG operates a broad range of international equity, bond and derivative markets (including London Stock Exchange, Borsa Italiana, MTS and Turquoise), risk management and clearing services (LCH.Clearnet, CC&G and Monte Titoli), and an extensive range of real time and reference data products including the index provider, FTSE. LSEG has grown to become a FTSE100 company with operating profit of £430m on turnover of £853m and employing 3,000 staff in 13 countries.

Personal qualities and skills

With over 25 years experience in HR, latterly as Group HR Director of a FTSE100 international business I have built up the skills and experience to be an effective Chair and/or Trustee of an occupational pension scheme including:

Experience of working at Board level through my dealings with the LSEG Chairman and the Chairs of both the Remuneration Committee and the Nominations Committee.

Effective at chairing committees and boards, ensuring that agendas are appropriately constructed, all members contribute and that debate is succinct, thorough and relevant to the agenda.

As Group HR Director, utilised effective and inclusive leadership and interpersonal skills, accomplished at finding consensus and mediating potential disputes towards agreement. These skills were recognised by Group CEO when appointing me as his Chief of Staff.

Substantial experience of instructing, negotiating fees and working with legal, actuarial, investment and other advisors on pensions matters and also on subjects as diverse as property, M&A and HR.

Experienced at corporate governance including pensions and publically quoted companies. Recently worked closely with newly appointed Group Risk Officer to develop enterprise risk management framework.
