BRING A FRIEND AND WIN!
SHUMC Youth Group October 2015
YOUTH MESSENGER Souls on Fire
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that can’t be shaken, let’s continue to express our gratitude. With this gratitude, let’s serve in a way that is pleasing to God
with respect and awe, because our God really is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12: 28-‐29
The Youth had a fun time bowling as our Kick-‐Off Youth Event of 2015-‐2016. Congratulations to Mason Mills and his guest, Kenston Hardee who won free sodas that night. I’m not sure who actually won the bowling game, but one thing is for sure: This is one winning looking bunch!
Officers were elected for the 2015-‐2016 YG Year.
President: Noah Nichols
Vice President: Sam Pearce
Secretary: Briana Bugg
Substitute Sec.: Parker Burke
Though King David says in Psalms 101: 3, “I won’t set my eyes on anything worthless,” I’m going to go ahead and say ears and mind as well. I’m guilty just like most of us who don’t carefully monitor (or maybe we outright ignore) what we let ourselves watch, hear, eat, and be a part of.
If I poured some of your favorite drink into a clean glass, and then some into an empty, yet well used trashcan; which one would you drink? I would go for the one in the nice clean glass. You know as well as I do that the drink in the trashcan is nasty; and we wouldn’t want it in our bodies because that dirt and grime could make us sick. (Continue on back)

A big THANK YOU to the Pizza Fairy for a delicious surprise on the September 20th YG Meeting!
Well, perhaps some of the music we buy, movies we watch, and gossip that we spread has all been thoroughly swished around in a nicely used trashcan, thus making most of it just that…TRASH! If we wouldn’t drink the trashcan drink because we don’t want filth in our bodies, then why would we insist on putting this other filth in our bodies so often from select music, movies, and conversations?
Of course what this turns into is a little concept known as “Garbage In, Garbage Out.” If we put that nasty drink in our systems, the bad stuff is very quickly going to come out – just as nasty as it went in. Just like the drink, the nasty stuff we put into our bodies through our eyes, ears, and thoughts, will also soon come out...mostly likely as something bad. Most of us don’t like to admit it, but the things we hear and the things we watch very much affect the way we act. We don’t want the nastiness to stick to us!
Prayer:
Dear God, fill us with your spirit and your love. Help us not to be filled with the trash and waste of the world. Amen.

I won’t set my eyes on anything worthless. I hate wrongdoing; none of that will stick to me.” Psalms 101: 3 (CEB)
