MELBOURNE TO LAKES ENTRANCE

Welcome to our wonderful Myall Lakes and Hawkesbury River Cruise tour! We’ll be collected from home by our chauffeur and taken to meet up with our friendly O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours crew and luxury coach. Heading off we travel east along the Princes Highway to Sale for lunch at the RSL Club. From here we continue on to our first nights accommodation - Lakes Entrance. A stroll to stretch the legs along the promenade will reveal some unique wooden sculptures. A local wood carver has taken the stumps of trees and carved them into images of Australia at War. There are famous images from World War I including Simpson and his donkey and a nursing sister caring for wounded soldiers.

OVERNIGHT: Belleview on the Lakes, LAKES ENTRANCE

DAY 1 Monday 17th February, 2020

LAKES ENTRANCE TO BATEMANS BAY

We’re heading onto the NSW South Coast today to Batemans Bay. We travel east along the Princes Highway through Cann River and Genoa and across the border to Boydtown, where we stop for lunch. Benjamin Boyd, the son of a London Banker established Boydtown at Twofold Bay in the mid 1800’s as his headquarters from where he ran his whaling and grazing exploits. Boyd had grandiose ideas of developing Boydtown to rival Sydney itself. Alas, the only buildings built were Boyd’s Church, the Lookout Tower and the Seahorse Inn – our lunch venue today! After lunch, we can take a stroll around the estate as the Inn is set amidst sprawling lawns and lush gardens. This afternoon, we travel through Eden, Bega, Narooma and onto Batemans Bay for our overnight stay.

OVERNIGHT: Sunseeker Motor Inn, BATEMANS BAY

DAY 2 Tuesday 18th February, 2020

DAY 3 Wednesday 19th February, 2020

BATEMANS BAY TO WISEMANS FERRY

We enjoy more of the South Coast today as we pass through Nowra and Ulladulla, making a stop in the pretty town of Berry. Here we have some free time to stretch our legs, explore the shops and purchase lunch (there are a couple of great bakeries here!!). Further along at Kiama, we pay a visit to the famous “Blowhole” which can spurt water up to 60 metres high when there is a good swell running – a great opportunity for a group photograph! Skirting Lake Illawarra, Wollongong and Sydney we arrive in Wisemans Ferry late afternoon. We will be staying here for the next three nights.

Lunch at own expense and arrangement OVERNIGHT: Retreat at Wisemans Ferry, WISEMANS FERRY

HAWKESBURY CRUISE

After breakfast we head to Mooney Mooney boat ramp where our “Spirit Australia Cruises” crew will greet us and welcome us aboard “Spirit II”. We cruise the lower reaches of the Hawkesbury, passing Dangar Island where the post is delivered to settlements by boat. We are now deep in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. We will enjoy lunch before proceeding upstream and through beautiful parts of the Marramarra National Park. Tonight we arrive back at Wisemans Ferry for another nights stay.

MYALL LAKES

After breakfast our cases will be collected and taken to our next accommodation. A short walk to the river where we board our “Spirit II” cruise boat to commence the exciting days ahead exploring the “great lakes”. We cruise on the Karuah River with its many oyster farms. Following lunch we continue towards the heads of Port Stephens. “Spectacular” is possibly the only way to describe this area as we pass close by the popular holiday resorts of Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay. Mid afternoon we enter the Myall River as it opens into the attractive Swan Bay and the holiday resort of Tea Gardens – along with the sister town Hawks Nest. We pass under the “Singing Bridge” before berthing in the township of Tea Gardens, a beautiful holiday town and a delight to visit. A great location!

Throughout the next days we will be surrounded by the beautiful Myall Lakes National Park. We re-enter the Myall River as we farewell Tea Gardens and pass by Brambles Green, Cherry Tree, Engels Reach and Pipers Creek. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch along the way. This afternoon we pass over the southern waters of the Bombah Broadwater and a deviation to visit pretty Nerong. Mid-afternoon we once again enter the Myall River. Travelling over 20kms upstream we arrive at Bulahdelah – our home for the next two nights. It is only a short transfer (or a walk through the town if you wish!) to our accommodation where we will enjoy dinner tonight.

OVERNIGHT: Bulahdelah Motor Lodge, BULAHDELAH
