NURSING

NATURE OF WORK

The largest group of workers in the health sector are those in the nursing occupations - nurses and nursing assistants.

The profession of nursing requires a spirit of service with dedication, love, tender care of the physically incapacitated, sick, injured, newborns, convalescing mothers, old persons and at times mentally deranged and sick patients.

Their training and education imparts knowledge and skill to work in hospitals, nursing homes, sanatoriums, schools, industry and private medical clinics.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Licensed Practical Nurse- 1-2 years of college

Registered Nurse- 2-3 years of college

Advanced training- 4 years of college

Accelerated Nursing Program- 5 ½ years of training

OTHER QUALIAFATIONS

With each training you must have hands on training and observation training.

JOB OUTLOOK

Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 19 percent from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will occur for a number of reasons, including an increased emphasis on preventative care; growing rates of chronic conditions, such as diabetes and obesity; and demand for healthcare services from the baby boomer population, as they live longer and more active lives

Registered Nurse (RN)Average Earning Potential: $66,530*As an RN, your duties may include treating and educating patients about various medical conditions. You might also perform diagnostic tests, analyze results, and administer medications.
