SPECIFICATION 11001 – Moving Bed Bioreactors (MBBR)
1. BioPortzTM Moving Media with Carbon Black Added
Quantity: 12,616 cubic feet of HPDE BioPortzTM Moving Media. Shipment: Media shipped in 4.4 cf boxes or 35 cf pallets via 48-ft Van Truck (TBD).
Approximately 2,000 cf per Van Truck. The media will be stored in a vinyl bag inside the boxes. Each box will contain around 4.4 cubic feet of media and will weigh approximately 38 pounds. Each pallet weighs ~300 pounds.
Storage: The boxes should be kept dry, away from precipitation and weather. Ideal storage
would be a covered area with concrete floors.
Location: ~2,102-cf to be installed within each aerobic MBBR reactor by contractor (total
six reactors). Each reactor will be approximately 67% fill by volume. Installation: Note, media cannot be installed all at once, doing so may result in catastrophic
failure – diffuser damage, media escape, etc. Media must be installed in increments equal to ~8-inches in depth in each reactor. Once the initial media is well mixed, additional media can be installed. Entex will coordinate media installation schedule with contractor upon system startup. Media introduction may take up to two (2) weeks.

BioPortz is a moving media systemfor use in Integrated Fixed-lm ActivatedSludge (IFAS) and submerged xed-lm(SFF) systems. Independently movingBioPortz carriers continually circulatethrough the aeration basin in a randommotion, ensuring excellent oxygenand substrate transfer to the biomass.
BioPortz is a cost-eective solution forexisting activated sludge plants that needmore advanced treatment. Because little orno additional tankage is required, BioPortz
is an ideal solution for plants withlimited room for expansion. It is alsoan excellent choice for space ecient, high performance new plant designs.
BioPortz moving media provides extensivesurface area for biomass growth. e attachedbiomass population can more than double theeective MLSS concentration.
e vigorous motion of the media throughthe aeration basin provides a high shear onthe biomass, maintaining a thin biologicallm. e thin lm provides for high ratebiological kinetics.

Advanced Systems. Proven Solutions.
ENTEX’s unique media design maximizesbiologically active surface area at an exceptional176 2/3. BioPortz is made of durable HDPE;the media never needs replacement.
Servicing aeration systems is simplied becauseof the 0.96 specic gravity. It oats when the airis turned o for easy movement out of the basin.
BioPortz improves wastewater treatmentwith little or no addition of aeration basinsor clariers. It’s a signicantly less expensiveway to upgrade activated sludge plants.
ENTEX engineers have been involvedin hundreds of plant installations. We’d like to be involved in yours.
ENTEX’s larger BioPortz media allowsfor media retention screens withexceptionally large open area. Becauseinlet screening needs to be 2/3 smallerthan the media retention screens,BioPortz systems only require normalne screens, saving capital cost as wellas operator time and attention.
BioPortz provides stable growthplatforms for slow-growing nitriers.Nitrifying plants perform better;non-nitrifying plants are able tonitrify. Plants needing to convertto nitrication can do so at a farlower cost than adding new basins.BioPortz can also be used in anoxiczones for denitrication.
