Vamshi Krishna (11135) The author of the article Mrs. Vandana Shiva has shared her views against the retail giant Wal-Mart. the title of the article indicates the globalization of Indian retail scenario from haats to hypermarkets, Haat means a traditional weekly village market we usually see in our country every-where. author has mentioned about a PIL that was filed in the court in favor of public interest to un cover the facts regarding the entry of Wal-Mart in India with help of Bharathi enterprises .author has mentioned the few laws and sections of government and central laws which are being violated if the Wal-Mart enters India which got the support from the Indian government ,but the author has failed to elaborate the reasons for why Wal-Marts entry should be stopped, she says Wal-Mart like giants are a threat for Indian retailers and farmers but here arises a question, are Indian retail chain like reliance ,more ,big bazaar not threat for local small retailers and farmers? What is the difference between the local retail chains and Wal-Mart, the only difference would be it is a foreign company and these are local companies. i would strongly support Wal-Marts entry because Indian consumers will be benefited with the Wal-Marts low prices and it helps Indian economy as every purchase is billed and a portion of money is paid to government as tax, which helps huge amounts to GDP. the Indian retail sector is still un-organized and consumers are becoming the victims of high prices, un-predictable quality, minimum choices of products. Wal-Mart like companys entry would bring discounted prices, high quality products and plenty of choices for consumers to select form number of products available. un-organized small retail is not contributing to our GDP which is a huge loss for our economy.in considering the argument that local small manufacturers and farmers will suffer, government should bring some regulations for the Wal-Mart to buy the local products/goods .with this kind of entry the retail sector becomes more competitive and organized with less prices and billed purchases.
