+ MULTI-LINGUISTIC ROSARY

“Give me an army saying the Rosary, and I will conquer the world”. Blessed Pope Pius X

The whole world is longing for peace. Our country, families, and hearts are not exception to it. History has taught that the powerful weapon to bring peace on the earth is the “Rosary”. The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. This year, from our parish we have decided to hold a multi-linguistic Rosary followed by benediction on 26th of October, 2016, Wednesday, at 6:30 PM. This is our parish event. It is our duty to make it successful. Come on down and join us.

+ FIAT

Have you ever wondered if God is calling you to be a religious Sister? If so, Fiat is for you. Fiat is a discernment group for single women considering a vocation to religious life in the Catholic Church. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. from 7 to 9PM at St. Clement Eucharistic Shrine, 1105 Boylston St. Boston. If you are interested in attending, please respond to Sister Marian Batho, CSJ, Delegate for Religious at 617-746-5637 or [email protected].

* HOUSE KEEPING

To the Parishioners of St. Anthony: We ask if you would help in keeping our beautiful Church clean. If you could please put your missal’s back in it’s holder, when leaving the Church – please do not leave your bulletin or any other items in the pews, and please put your kneeler up. This way, if every parishioner participates, our Church will always look beautiful for the next Mass or Funeral and Novena. Thank you to all who answered our request for keeping our Church neat. We were very pleased at how nice everything looked. Keep up the good work!

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED We are in need of some minor work in our Church and School if you are an experienced painter and would like to donate your time we would gladly supply the supplies needed. We have some radiators and metal door dividers in our school and chapel area that are in need of some sprucing up. We are not able to hire anyone for this because our funds are very low. As you know repairs are costly. Thank you please call Maryann Giorgio at 781-289-1234 Ext 10

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK We begin our Faith Formation Program this weekend.

A big thanks to Donna Felzani, our Faith Formation Administrator, and to all those who volunteered to teach in our Program. Our Ladies Sodality is having a recruitment for new members this weekend. They meet on the 1st Friday of every month, (except January and February) beginning with a 7 PM Mass, followed by a Social downstairs in our parish hall. Our Sodality is dedicated to Our Lady. They join together and pray for our Parish. Fr. Heni will be their spiritual director. Soon you will be receiving my 7th Grand Annual letter in the mail. Over the weekend of October 8th and 9th, I will speak at all the Masses concerning our financial condition. I always hate to talk about money, but it’s part of my job to make sure we pay our bills, provide the necessary services, and keep up our buildings and property in good condition. So far, so good. More later. Until then, my macaroni and meatballs! Fr. George ST. ANTHONY’S FEAST AND ANNIVERSARY

CLERGY HEALTH AND RETIREMENT COLLECTION The diocese-wide collection will be taken up at the second collection of all Masses this weekend to support the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust which cares for the health and well-being or our priests. In the Archdiocese of Boston, we are blessed to have 614 men including Fr. George Butera, our Pastor, who have devoted their lives to serving Christ and His family. Your gift to this collection will help provide our priests with an appropriate level of care and quality of life so they can continue sharing the good news, performing good works, and spreading good faith. Remember the priests who have been here at St. Anthony’s in your time of need, and consider honoring them with a generous gift to this special collection.

The Twenty Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Our Parish Theme SongLord, you have come to the seashore,

neither searching for the rich nor the wise, desiring only that I should follow.

O Lord, with your eyes set upon me gently smiling, you have spoken my name; all I long for

I found by the water, at your side I will seek other shores.

CONFIRMATION NEWS “Everyone has dreams and goals. The only difference between a goal and a dream is, a goal is a dream with – ACTION”. - John Chow The goal that has been set for every Christian is to be “the light of the world”. To get the strength to act on that goal, through the Church, our Lord Himself has offered seven Sacraments, and Confirmation is one among them. The registration of the students for the Confirmation Program for the Year I, is already underway. The parents and guardians are encouraged to register your kids who are into 9th grade into this Confirmation Program. It is really an important act of passing the faith to our kids. To register your kids, kindly call either the rectory or Fr. Xavier. This year, the Confirmation Preparation Program starts on October 5, 2016, Wednesday, 7 PM with the “Get to Know” Session. The venue of the session is St. Anthony’s Faith Formation Building. This is an important session and so both the 1st and 2nd year Confirmation Candidates are requested to be there at the session with your parents/guardians and sponsors, without fail. If you have any concerns or questions, please call Fr. Xavier on 781-244-9162 or email at [email protected]. Fr.Xavier _________________________________________________

ARE YOU IN NEED OF A MIRACLE We all experience problems in our daily lives. Are you dealing with health issues, family problems, drugs, gambling and alcohol addiciton, children with emotional, social and learning problems, marital problems, abuse of various types, financial difficulties, etc.? Come to seek help and comfort from St. Anthony, the Miracle Worker. Come to join the many Parishioners sand Non-Parishioners who come to St. Anthony Devotions each week. Come and learn of the many miracles attributed to St. Anthony both in his lifetime and today. It should be emphasized that in learning about the accounts of the miracles, one is impressed by a singular fact: in the majority of cases, if not in all, they who have received a particular grace or a special miracle had prior to this, a conversion of heart, either by means of a perfect Act of Contrition and a firm purpose of Amendment, or they had made a sincere and contrite confession. It is true that whoever did not intend to repent and change his or her life did not obtain the graces desired. Here at St. Anthony’s Parish, reflection on the Word of God, devotional prayers to St. Anthony, Benediction and blessing and veneration of the St. Anthony of Padua relic will be at 3:30 PM and at 7:00 PM. However, beginning on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 and every Tuesday from then on, immediately following the 8:00 AM Mass in the main Church, we will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament until 4:00 PM following the 3:30 PM service. Also, a Priest will be avialable for confession from 6:00 to 7:00 PM every Tuesday in the main Chruch. The 7:00PM service will begin immediately following the opportunity for confession. Since the main Church will be open every Tuesday with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, (except when funerals are scheduled in the morning) we encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to come and pray before the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day and join us in the formal devotional prayers at 3:30 and 7:00 PM. Come and experience the mercy and the love of God through the powerful inercession of St. Anthony of Padua. Thank you and God Bless You! Deacon Joe Belmonte

Gift of the Spirit: Understanding

Understanding is the second of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is nothing to do with human intelligence which varies from person to person. But, it is a grace that the Holy Spirit can alone infuse in us. It makes us have close intimacy with God and helps us go beyond our physical reality. In other words, the essential quality of this gift is “penetrating intuition”. While two disciples were on the way to Emmaus, Our Lord joined with them and explained everything. Thus, they were able to understand the meaning of the suffering, death, and resurrection of Our Lord. (Lk.24:3027) Through the gift of understanding, we are able to grasp the depths of the thoughts of God and his plan of salvation. St. Paul says, “What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him, this God has revealed to us through the spirit.” (1Cor.2:9-10). Thus, the gift of understanding makes our faith to perfection. St. Thomas Aquinas, in his Summa Theologiae, said “in this very life, when the eye of the spirit is purified by the gift of understanding, one can in a certain way see God.” This does not mean that we are able to comprehend fully the designs of God (fully comprehending the mystery of the Holy Trinity or the Real presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist). Pope Francis clarifies it that the gift of understanding helps us to “read inwardly and “understand things as God understands them.” By the gift of understanding, we are able to have access with the created things as a gift of God and learn to make use of them wisely. For example, it is good to use social media like face book, twitter and what’s app, to relate with others. But we may sometimes spend more time on social media unnecessarily forgetting our spiritual exercises – Praying the Rosary, reading the scripture, helping the needy…The gift of understanding always moves us to place God first in life. It gives us a sense of detachment from the created things. Above all, the gift of understanding gives us a profound appreciation for God’s Providence in life. And it breaks through the darkness of our minds and hearts and makes us true believers. Let us ask God’s blessings to have the gift of understanding to lead a meaningful life. PRAYER: Eternal God, I thank You for all the blessings, especially the gift of understanding. But I fail to utilize this gift properly due to my undue attachment with the world. Fill me with the gift of understanding so that I can remove the darkness of my mind and heart, to have intimacy with God and to comprehend His divine plan. I ask this prayer, through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Edited and compiled by Fr. Heni

The Twenty Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 25 – Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time “Woe to the complacent in Zion!” Are we complacent, do we settle for the status quo? Looking at the many half-filled pews each Sunday, do you say, “Oh well, that’s just how it is.”? No! In his letter to Timothy, Saint Paul instructs us: “pursue righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Compete well for the faith.” There is no room for complacency. With love, patience, devotion and gentleness, invite someone to come to Mass with you next week. Compete well for the faith.
