University of BathRecruiting an experienced Business Development Manager

ObjectiveAfter a significant restructure, the University of Bath was looking to recruit an experienced Business Development Manager who would grow the department’s commercial income and take the University of Bath to the next phase of growth as they approach their 50th anniversary.

IdeaWe focused our direct sourcing activity on business development professionals with a background in marketing and experience from higher education institutions and the corporate hospitality sector. Bearing in mind the University of Bath’s desire to recruit an individual who also had multi-site experience, prospects were also sought from sectors such as accommodation and hospitality or conference and events.

ImpactA shortlist of 60 candidates was created of which eight were identified as priority contacts. We made contact with 44 of the 60 prospects which is a feedback rate of 75%. 100% of the priority contacts engaged with us. A shortlist of four applications was presented to University of Bath, of which three were shortlisted. The outcome was that the TMP applicants were ranked first, second and third in the overall grading. An offer has been made, and accepted, to the leading TMP candidate.

“We have really seen the value in using TMP’s services – we’ve had some really great applications and TMP demonstrated a real understanding of our roles. At interview, our candidates were very positive about their dealings with TMP which is great as this was their first impression and communication relating to the University of Bath”

Jane Loveys – Director of Accommodation and Hospitality Services
