1. INSTALLATION GUIDE

1.1. INSTALLATION OVERVIEW

The installation is usually a two-day process. The first day, the customer basically observes while the trainer explains and operates the machine. The second day, the trainer looks over the customers shoulder being sure to talk the customer through all of their actions. It is important to make the customer feel at ease about using the machine. At any time, while demonstrating, tell the customer why you do things the way you do. By the end of the installation, the customer should have done everything in the printing process, by himself or herself. It is important to keep in mind that the customer will need to take breaks at certain points during the training. Remember that they probably have things that they need to accomplish during the day. Make sure to talk about with them when will be a good time for lunch and other breaks. Encourage the customer to ask you questions. Let them know that they can interrupt you at any point if they don’t understand what is being said. If you don’t know an answer to a question, don’t panic. Let them know you can get the answer with a call back to the office.

1.2. SETUP

Uncrate the equipment and arrange the machines where the customer would like them, keeping in mind that the depowdering unit should be on the right hand side of the ZPrinter 310. Unpack all of the consumables and machine accessories and set them up neatly.

1.2.1. PERFORM SETUP AND INSPECTION OF THE ZPRINTER 310

• Visually inspect the crated machine. If any damage is evident contact Z Corporation immediately.

• Uncrate the machine. Remove the plastic bag and shrink wrap covering the machine.

• Visually inspect all of the panels of the machine for dents, scratches or chipped paint. If damaged, contact Z Corporation immediately.

• Open the overflow bucket and retrieve the waste bottle. Unwrap and install the waste bottle.

• Remove the cable ties securing the fast axis to the front rail.

• Fill the binder tank with binder.

• Fill the service station with ZC10 Cleaning Fluid.

• The binder supply tubing is shipped full of distilled water. Purge the tubing through with the new binder by drawing fluid through the septum with a syringe.

• Install a binder cartridge.

• Remove the sticker over the power entry on the electronics box. Set the appropriate system voltage with the selector switch on the power supply.

• Connect the AC line cord to the printer and to the wall. Loop the line cord through the cord clip on the bottom of the electronics box.

• Turn on the power and check for proper boot up. The fast and slow axes should rezero and then park. The pistons will not move.

• Turn off power before connecting to the PC.

• Perform setup and inspection of the ZD4i Depowdering Station

1.2.2. PERFORM SETUP AND INSPECTION OF PC

• Install the system software. Refer to Chapter 1 of the ZPrint User Manual. Don’t forget to disable any screen savers on the desktop computer.

• Ensure the ZPrinter 310 is powered down. • Connect the ZPrinter 310 to a data source. They can be connected in the following three

ways: 1. Ethernet connection to the company LAN. This is preferred, because it allows the

user to print from many different computers, and allows easy debugging using the ZMonitor program.

o Using the supplied Ethernet cable (14086), connect the ZPrinter 310 to the nearest Ethernet drop. If there is no free port available, you can use an Ethernet hub (14443).

o Turn on the ZPrinter 310 and allow it to boot. o In the system software, go to 3D Print Setup o Choose select printer o Choose Network, and click Find. o Select the printer name ‘Z310_3XXXX’.

2. Ethernet connection directly to the PC. Use this method if you can’t connect directly to the company LAN, or if the customer prefers not to connect to the LAN.

o Using a crossover Ethernet cable (14442), connect the ZPrinter to an Ethernet port on the PC. This requires the PC to have an available Ethernet port. If the PC is already connected to the LAN, it will need an additional Ethernet card to connect to the ZPrinter 310.

o Turn on the ZPrinter 310 and allow it to boot. o In the system software, go to 3D Print Setup o Choose select printer o Choose Network, and click Find. o Select the printer name ‘Z310_3XXXX’.

3. Serial connection directly to the PC. This is the least desirable method, because it makes debugging using the ZMonitor program impossible. Debugging will require connection of a keyboard and monitor to the ZPrinter 310.

o Using the supplied serial cable, connect the serial port on the ZPrinter to an available serial port on the PC.

o Turn on the ZPrinter 310 and allow it to boot. o In the system software, go to 3D Print Setup o Choose select printer o Choose Serial Port, and choose the appropriate port number.

• Check for good communication between the PC and the ZPrinter 310. • Note: Some customers may have network requirements and configurations that are not

covered here. Please refer to 08605 Setting Ethernet connections to a Z Corporation 3D Printer for more detailed information.

1.2.3. PRINT A TEST PART

• Fill the machine with powder. Print a test part to verify proper machine function. You may use this opportunity to begin training the user to set up builds.

• Verify that the machine appears to be printing normally.

• Verify that the cables are behaving normally in the Igus chain.

• During and after the build, check for any leaking binder at all fluid connections.

1.2.4. PROCEED TO USER TRAINING
