May 10 is World Lupus Day. Lupusis an autoimmune disease that causesthe immune system to attack itstissues, causing inflammation,swelling, pain and damage. Symptomsvary, but early lupus signs includefatigue, joint pain, fever and a rash,especially after being in the sun.Doctors diagnose lupus based onsymptoms and blood tests. Debi MosserAnnouncing Debi Mosser as our recentEmployee of the Month. She recently
celebrated her 8th anniversary atEmeritus. Her education includes an
A.S. in Food Service Management withemphasis on modified special diets.
Debi loves our community, this is herfamily, and making things better for the
residents is what is important to her.Debi has taken Join Their Journey
principles to heart and applies it to ourresidents. We always have terrific
snacks and after dinner sandwiches inmemory care. At mealtime, she will callthe cottages to see if everything is ok. Ifa resident has changed their mind, shewill whip something else up for them.Debi has said she is looking forward to
warmer weather and passing outwatermelon slices to residents whilethey relax. Hobbies include: fishing,gardening, embroidery and reading.

Alta “Bea” FieldingAlta, who prefers to be called Bea, isour featured Resident of the Month.
Bea was born in Texas. She was marriedto her husband John for 50+ years, of
which she says, “He was so veryhandsome.” Together, they were
blessed with three children, two boysand one daughter. She worked at
Bourns Laboratory where she was aQuality Control Technician. She enjoysattending the weekly Happy Hours and
listening to music, but most of allenjoys dancing with her son, John.
Bea’s children are very active in her lifeand her sons John and Kenny are
regulars to be with their mom at everyparty we have. Bea is such a good
helper. She is always helping the staffwith cleaning of the cottage. If youhave not had a chance to meet Bea,
stop by and say, “Hello.”
Spring Sachet
Make your homereally feel like springwith this adorablehomemade springsachet. Place one in adrawer or linen closet,give a few as gifts oruse one to brightenup a room.
Materials:• Scissors• Decorative
handkerchief• Needle and
thread or ribbon• Button
(optional)• Dried flowers,
herbs, potpourrior other scenteditems to fill thesachet
Instructions:Cut a four-inch
square from thehandkerchief. Foldthree corners towardthe square’s center,with the pattern sideup. Sew the cornerstogether. Turn thesachet inside out andpress. To add extraflair, sew on adecorative button onthe top of the flap.Place the desiredfillers into the sachetand sew down theflap. Alternatively, tiea ribbon around thetop in place of sewing.
