Minister's Seminar With John BuehrensThis class will meet most Sunday mornings at 9:45 AM in the Murdock Room. “RELIGION IN HUMAN EVOLUTION: From the Paleolithic to the Axial Age.”
This is the title of the magnum opus of the late, great UC Berkeley social scientist, Prof. Robert Bellah. Religion is often seen today as more of a problem than as a resource. Yet it clearly arose to serve evolutionary purposes – for humans to survive and thrive. Before we can understand what went wrong, we must understand more fully the stages in the evolution of human religiousness.

Reciting Our Congregational Covenant Cindy Pincus
Love is the spirit of this church, and service is its prayer. This is our great covenant: to dwell together in peace, to seek the truth in freedom, and to help one another.
Doxology
The future of Unitarian Universalism is almost totally dependent on two factors:great congregations (large or small) and skilled, effective, dedicated ministers.
The strangest feature of their relationship is this: they create one another.
– The Rev. Dr. Jack Mendelsohn (1928-2012)

ABOUT TODAY'S GUEST MINISTER
The Rev. Rosemary Bray McNatt, the President of Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, CA, previously served for 13 years as Senior Minister of The Fourth Universalist Society in the City of New York. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, she is a graduate of Yale University and Drew Theological Seminary. Rev. Bray McNatt also worked as an editor and widely anthologized writer for more than 20 years before answering the call to ordained ministry. Her years of service to the UUA have included work on a number of committees, including the Committee on Urban Concerns and Ministry, the Task Force for Strategic Options for Beacon Press, the UUA Panel on Theological Education, and the UUA Board of Trustees. Her social justice work most recently included service as the convener of OccupyFaithNYC, a multi-faith economic justice organization founded in the spirit of Occupy Wall Street, and a co-convener of Moral Monday NYC, a multi-faith social justice group inspired by the Rev. Dr. William Barber. In 2002, she helped to found the Unitarian Universalist Trauma Response Ministry, created to provide culturally sensitive liberal religious responses to mass disaster and other significant trauma. Since 1984, she has been married to Robert McNatt, a second-generation Unitarian Universalist. They are the happy parents of two UU young adults: Allen and Daniel.
