HOW TO INSTALL THE 11i APPLICATIONS :

Get the Installation guide & Release Notes from Metalink.oracle.com or

    Otn.oracle.com orwww.4shared.com

    Get the software from Metalink.oracle.com

    Login by username & password

Get the software which consists of many zip files

    Disk Space Requirements (file system)

The size of the application tier file system objects in a single nodeinstallation

    (which includes iAS/8.0.6 ORACLE_HOME, COMMON_TOP, andAPPL_TOP) is

approximately 26 GB.The disk size required for the database tier files is approximately 32

GB for a fresh install database and 75 GB for a Vision Demodatabase

A fresh install requires approximately 60 GB & Vision requires approximately 105

    GB.

The size of the zip files is 24 GB. So we must have at least the space of 75 GB for the

    Mount point.

Creation of OraInventory (oraInst .loc) is not required if it exits then you need to take

a backup of this file, system itself creates.

If you plan to install more than one system on a node, use the same oraInventory for

    all OUI-based installations.

The location of the oraInventory is stored in the file oraInst.loc

The default location for this file is : /etc/oraInst.loc and /var/opt/oracle for other

    UNIX platforms

Contents of this file oraInventory are shown below

    From root user$ cd /etc/

    $ vi oraInst.loc

    The contents of oraInst.loc

    #oracle 11i Apps

    inventory_loc=/apps/oraprod/oraInventory

Software RequirementsThe software required to complete the installation of OracleApplications includes:Java Development Kit (JDK)

Release Maintenance ToolsFor both single-user and multi-user installations, thefollowing utilities must be installedon all server nodes and included in the PATH variable of theuser account that runs theRapid Install wizard:

Linux ar, gcc, g++, ld, ksh, make

Steps to be followed for installing 11i Apps

Create two users under HOME directory or at Mount point

It is better to use under Mount point

    The two users are:

    First user for Oracle Database

    eg: oraprod

    Second user for Apps

    eg: appsprod

Change the ownership & permissions for the mount point

    chown -R oraprod:dba location

    chmod -R 777 location

    Login to user oraprod

    su oraprod

    password: *******

Get the zip files from Metalink.oracle.com

Copy under directory 11510 unzip all the zip files in it

You get 5 directories under 11510 directory

The 5 directories are as follows:

    startCD oraAPPS oraDB oraAPPSDB oraiAS

    Go to the startCD .

This action sets up a new, fully configured system, with either afresh database or a

    Vision Demo database.

you enter in the Rapid Install wizard and save in the configurationfile (config.txt).

Express Configuration :This action sets up a fully configured, single-user/single-node system

with either a fresh database or Vision Demo database. You supply afew basic parameters, such as database type and name, top-levelinstall directory, and increments for port settings. The remainingdirectories and mount points are supplied by Rapid Install using default

The core AD directories and all product directories areinstalled under the APPL_TOP on all tiers. Nodes can be configured toshare an APPL_TOP.To set up a single-node system, click Single-node.

implementation. This type ofdatabase is suitable for any type of system that requires a freshdatabase, such as aproduction system or a test system. The default name for a productiondatabase is PROD.

If you are installing a database for another use, for example as a testsystem or a backupsystem, choose the Fresh Database option and enter a database namethat reflects thatpurpose, for example PROD. A Vision Demo database is used for demonstration or training

Save the configuration fileYou have now completed all the information Rapid Install needs to

set up and install a singlenode system. The Save Instance-specificConfiguration screen asks you to save the values you have enteredin the wizard in a configuration file (config.txt ).

The configuration file contains all the information required toconfigure a specific Oracle Applications instance. Rapid Install usesthese values during the installation to create the file system, installthe database, and configure and start the server processes. It thenstores the values in a central repository called a context file, whichyou can use to modify the system configuration at any time after theinstallation is complete.

The default location of the config.txt file is the system temporary

directory. Its a good idea to choose a permanent directory locationbecause you may use this file at a later date. Enter a directory pathor click Browse to navigate to a new directory path.
