Dear Parents and Carers,
In the last newsletter we mentioned the
importance of speaking to your children about
road safety. Unfortunately since then I have
received three phone calls from community
members very concerned about the way
Tacoma students cross the road. Please remind
your children to stop, look and listen before
they cross any road.
Staff Development Day term 2 - The
Department of Education has scheduled a Staff

we have been completing the Franklin Covey 7
Habits of Highly Effective People program. This
is a world-recognised program designed to
support staff in both their professional and
personal lives. Tomorrow afternoon we will be
focussing on the Habits of “Think win-win” and
“Seek first to understand then to be
understood”.
National Day of Action - This Friday is National
Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. All
classes will be talking about strategies to help
keep all children safe and happy whilst at

Family holidays during the school term
We encourage all our families to save
their holidays for normal school
holiday times rather than during the
school term.
If it is unavoidable and you are going on holiday during
the school term, please send a note to the class teacher
prior to the leave period. The absence will be recorded
as leave on the attendance register.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE – It’s NOT ok TO STAY AWAY
Too many students across Australia are missing their best chance to do well in life because they are
allowed to miss days of their education. Some students are allowed to stay home for an ever increasing
number of excuses including -
• a day off for their birthday
• a day off because relatives are visiting
• a day off to be with parents at home
• a day off to look after younger brothers and sisters
• a day off to go shopping
Students should only miss school for genuine illness or for serious domestic reasons. All absences
must be explained within 7 days or earlier is even better.
Talk to the Principal or class teacher if you have trouble getting your child to school.
After love and care the most important thing that we as parents can give our kids is an EDUCATION.
Every day a child is away, they are losing a learning experience. Over time missing school leaves big
gaps in their learning. They want to spend less and less time at school and they influence younger
brothers and sisters. Allowing your child to stay home becomes the easy way out. If you require support
in saying ‘No’ to your child on their attendance or any other issue please contact someone at the
school. We can work together to make a difference to your child’s future.
Be on time. Be at school. That’s the rule!

Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Have you moved or changed phone numbers? Please inform the front office with any chang- es
in your living situation so we can contact you if the need arises. We particularly need to keep
phone numbers up to date for emergencies. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
We welcome information from parents about your child's health, even if
you are not requesting specific support from our school. Our school asks
for medical information when you enrol your child. It is also important
that you let us know if your child’s health care needs change or if a new health condition develops.
Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes and other health care related issues
(including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months) should be provided to the school by
parents. Please provide this information in writing to the principal. This will greatly assist our school in planning to
support your child’s health and wellbeing.
Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or to the contact
details of other people nominated as emergency contacts.
We appreciate your assistance in this regard and assure you that any information you provide the school will be
stored securely and will only be used or disclosed in order to support your son or daughter’s health needs or as
otherwise required by law.
Evacuation Alarm – the school bell sounds 3 times. Pattern repeated three times.
When this alarm sounds, evacuate locking the door behind you and assemble on the oval.
Lockdown Alarm – School bell sounds continuously.
When this alarm sounds move to the closest secure point such as an occupied classroom, hall, office or the library
and follow the directions of the staff member. Stay low, remain out of sight, keep the door and windows locked, and
pull the blinds down.
For your safety and the safety of others, if an emergency occurs when on our school site, please follow the directions
of staff until given the all clear.
Are Your Details up to Date?
A reminder to parents to notify the school
about your child’s health
