NEW MEDICARE CARD ON ITS WAY The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) are rolling out new Medicare cards to all eligible beneficiaries beginning this April. The new cards will look the same and cover the same benefits. However, the Social Security Number ID’s will be replaced with a randomly assigned Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI). Due to the rise of fraud and identity theft, CMS has decided to replace the current ID numbers with a Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI), a randomly chosen mix of 11 letters and numbers. CMS anticipates the distribution of nearly 58 million cards will take course over a year. Once you receive your Medicare card, be sure to present the new card to your medical providers for proper billing of services. For further questions about your new card, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or log on to www.Medicare.gov.
