Twenty-five Mazzuchelli Catholic Middle School students will represent the
initial class to be enrolled in a personalized, blended-learning pilot program,
named EDGE, that Holy Family Catholic Schools plans to implement over the
course of the next five years. Holy Family will be the first school system in Iowa
to implement this visionary approach to education through a partnership with
California-based Summit Learning. The implementation of EDGE will begin at
the 6th grade level in 2017-18, adding to the roll-out with incoming Wahlert
Catholic freshmen, sixth and seventh grades in 2018-19, and so on through
2021, at which point the implementation of EDGE will be realized throughout
the secondary level. Call Mazzuchelli Catholic Middle School Principal Phillip
Bormann at 582-1198 or visit our website holyfamilydbq.org/EDGE to learn
more.

Dear Parishioners,
I remember something that Bishop Robert Barron told us once at
the seminary. He was teaching my class on the doctrine of God and
the Trinity. The very first thing he said was this: “If you think you
know everything about God, then it’s NOT God.”
The point that he pushed was that when we speak of God, it is easy
to make God in our own image. We make God agree with us, have
the same thoughts and opinions we do. In other words, we
domesticate God. That is not God.
The glory of God is so great, the knowledge of God is great, that we
simply cannot fully understand Him. St. Paul speaks to this in the
second reading. All we can do is to give Him glory and honor and
praise, for we do not know the mind of the Lord. We can know what
has been revealed us.
Jesus tells Peter that his confession of faith that Jesus is the Christ
(the Anointed One) is based upon revelation. Peter did not know this
through human knowledge, but what has been revealed to him. It is
easy for us to want to make God in our own image, to domesticate
Him according to our thoughts.
Nothing is far more dangerous to our own faith life than to make
God what He is not. Nothing is more poisonous to our spiritual life
than to not be challenged, stretched, pulled to conversion.
Discipleship demands constant conversion of our lives. If God were to
think like us, then discipleship has lost its meaning.
God bless,
Fr. Davis
As requested by the Archbishop, we are
