“MAKING A DIFFERENCE BY SUPPORTING OUR NEIGHBORS”
We continue to be amazed by the outstanding generosity of our numerous business partners and community friends as we celebrate the 12th annual PHI Community Foundation Pepco Golf & Tennis Classic. I simply want to say – Thank You. We have relied upon your significant financial support to help us make this critical fundraising initiative such a success. For more than 12 years, your enduring loyalty has allowed us to raise nearly $2.7 million in donations to help limited-income individuals and families throughout the Washington metropolitan region who are challenged to meet their energy needs.
The agencies that manage the distribution of these funds have consistently conveyed how critical the funding remains in helping to sustain individuals and families who have to make tough choices regarding their energy bills and other important quality of life matters that so many of us do not even have to contemplate. Your contributions provide a safety net that has proven to be beneficial year after year. You inspire us to make this event and fundraiser the very best that we can for the greater good of the communities we serve in the Pepco region.
As the executive lead, I salute the agencies that serve our community’s citizens with these very real and pressing needs. I want to personally thank the longstanding organizations that have a very deep and rich history in the communities they serve for partnering with The PHI Community Foundation to distribute these financial resources within designated jurisdictions. They are: The Greater Washington Urban League (District of Columbia), Interfaith Works (Montgomery County), and Mary’s Center (Prince George’s County).
I can’t help but think back to September 9, 2013, when I took over leadership of this annual fundraising event from my predecessor, Tom Graham, who positioned this tournament to become one of the best in the region – if not the best. His unwavering support and guidance continues. Since my inaugural tournament, I have met so many outstanding business/community colleagues. My respect for your commitment and dedication to our campaign – which was created to truly help us make an impact on the communities we serve – must be acknowledged. Also, with encouragement from many of you, I’ve finally participated in the actual tournament this year. This makes our coming together even more exciting for me. But more importantly, you have helped us to enhance the legacy established in 2006 of wonderful partnerships and collaboration through our mutual association with and commitment to the Pepco Golf & Tennis Classic.
We hope you experienced another memorable day with us at The Country Club at Woodmore. Each year, we try to add a new feature to enhance your experience of the athletic events as well as promote the camaraderie of our guests. I look forward to our continued partnership and making next year even greater.
With deep gratitude,
Donna M. Cooper

— Enter the digital substation
New complexities and the need for a more flexible and intelligent grid are
driving a digital revolution across the power value chain. The digital sub-
station is a centerpiece of an increasingly automated grid. IEC 61850 auto-
mation systems with the IEC 61850-9-2 process bus along with intelligent
electronic devices enable seamless integration of protection, control and
communication equipment. These smart substations incorporate innovative
products like compact disconnecting circuit breakers (DCB) with built-in
Fiber Optic Current Sensors (FOCS) as well as sensor equipped transformers
and switchgear - all supporting our vision of a stronger, smarter and greener
grid. new.abb.com/grid

Bustling urban centers need efficient and reliable electricity, but have little room to accommodate large electrical installations. ABB’s Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) technology can shrink the size of an electrical substation by as much as 70 percent, so it can be located in the midst of cities and in other space-restricted areas, sometimes even indoors or underground, minimizing environmental impact. We offer a range of products, systems and services for power generation, transmission and distribution to help increase power capacity, enhance grid reliability, improve energy efficiency and lower environmental impact. With a 125 year heritage of technology innovation ABB continues to shape the grid of the future. For more information please visit us at www.abb.com.

Thanks to your generosity, over $240,000 will be distributed this winter to families in the Greater Washington Metropolitan Region – regardless of whether they heat with electricity or gas – through the following organizations:
Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL) provides all age groups in the District of Columbia with housing, education, job placement, parental support, mentoring and many other services through advocacy and direct support.
Interfaith Works is a nonsectarian, interfaith coalition of more than 165 churches and affiliated congregations that work together to meet the needs of the poor in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Mary’s Center provides health care, family literacy and social services to individuals whose needs too often go unmet by the public and private systems. Mary’s Center uses a holistic, multipronged approach to help each participant access individualized services that set them on the path toward good health, stable families and economic independence.
