Hello Wonderful Families,

It was so nice to sit down with many of you this week and talk about your student’s start to 1st grade. I look forward to seeing the rest of you this week. Below are some of the highlights from our week. Let me know if you have any questions.

Reading Workshop:-Decoding Strategies: Stretchy Snake, Chunky Monkey, Flippy Dolphin-Read Aloud: Chicken Squad, Magic Tree House-Small group work and one on one reading checkins**Book in a Bag—Be sure to have your child return these, and all its contents, on Monday.

Writing Workshop/Word Study:-Conference letters-Personal Narrative/Small Moment Stories-Authors think of ideas and plan before writing.-Syllables in words

Math Workshop:OA. 1. Use addition and subtraction 0-10 (eventually get to 0-20) to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

-What doesn’t belong opener-Finding patterns on a hundreds chart (1 more, 1 less, 10 more, 10 less)-Making 10 using a ten frame

If you are looking for something to practice at home:-MobyMax is a great way to start practicing those basic facts. Students have a username and password and can access the site from my webpage. They have already taken the initial online assessment, so it should start them out at an appropriate level. It does take some getting used to finding the numbers on the keyboard.
