Keralothsavam

A spectacular show of various performing art forms from Kerala. The art forms showcased are;

Thirvathirakali This is a dance form performed by women on the day of Thiruvathira to the accompaniment of Thiruvathira paattu that are folk songs telling tales of lovesick Parvati, her longing and penance for Lord Shiva's affection, Shiva's might and power. Co-ordiantor: Lekha Suresh Participants: Binu Jayakrishnan, Bincy Dasil, Lekha Suresh, Latha Anoop, Melna Shaji, Priya Johnson, Sreelekshmi Ratheesh, Sai Saraswathy Ratheesh, Shanthhala Jayakrishnan and Urumila Krishnadas.

Kerala Natanam

Kerala Natanam (Kerala Dance) is a new style of dance that is now recognised as a distinct art form evolved

from Kathakali, a form of Indian dance-drama. Male–female pair dancing is a distinct style in Kerala Natanam.

Choreographer: Akhila Sasidhar. Performers : Alina Jacob, Catherine Jacob, Shreya Dcruz, Vinaya Cheriyan,

Anjaly Alex, Breeze Mathew, Sandra Tom and Apoorva Rajan

Kathakali

Kathakali is a highly stylized classical Indian dance-drama noted for the attractive make-up of characters, elabo-

rate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback

music and complementary percussion. Choreographed and performed by Akhila Sasidhar

Kalaripayattu

Kalaripayattu or "Payattu" is an Indian martial art from the southern state of Kerala. One of the oldest fighting

systems in existence, it was originally practiced in northern and central parts of Kerala and the Tulunadu region

of Karnataka.Taught by: Akhila Sasidhar. Presented by: Charles Saji, Cyril Saji, Christy Saji

Mohiniyattam

Mohiniyattam, is a classical dance form from Kerala, India, believed to have originated in 16th century. It is con-

sidered a very graceful form of dance meant to be performed as solo recitals by women. Choreographer: Priya

Margamkali

The original Margam Kali describes the arrival of St. Thomas in Malabar, the miracles he performed, the friend-

ship as well as the hostility of the people among whom he worked, the persecution he suffered, the churches and

crosses he put up in various places, etc. Choreographer: Maicy Alex. Participants: Maicy Alex, Ashitha Jose,

Oppana

Oppana is a popular form of social entertainment which was originated on the occasion of make of Muslim brides

among the Mappila (Kerala Muslim's) community of Kerala, South India. Co-ordiantor: Bindu Shaji. Parti-

ciapnts :Bindhu Shaji, Bindu Benny, Christina Jaison, Sheeba Shijo, Seena Roy, Sticksy Biju and Sheena Roy

Kolkali

Kolkali is a folk art performed in North Malabar region of Kerala State in South India. Co-ordiantor: Hijas Pun-

nathil; Participants: Hijas Punnathil, Naveen Vinod, Anil Antony, Sajeev Abraham, Jerin Joseph, Jerin James,

Sajin Abraham and Christo Saji.

Nadodi Dance

The nadodi dance that is showcased today it a harvest dance usually performed during the time of rice harvest in

which is in the month of Chingam. Choreographer: Anitha Naveen Participants: Christine, Bhavya, Rebecca, Ce-

lestine, Hitha, Brennett, Nainika and Saga

Dravidians- Indo western live band

An indo-western instrumental fusion music, a blend of folk, swing style, karnatic, semi classical and temple mu-

sic. We have the corner stone of the band Mathew on bass, Our Saxophone specialist Kim, Classical Violin and

morphine master Ashokan, Manoj on drums and chenda, Santhosh on edakka, together with the melodic voices of

Kavya and Jeswin. Swaying on keyboard and rolling on the wave drum, the master mind behind this performance,

Deva. We present to you The DRAVIDIANS!!!

Modern Folk - CWalk

A vibrant modern Indian folk dance choreographed and performed by Naveen & his vibrant group CWALK

LATINO GROOVES Salsa & Ladies Styling

Fast paced, dynamic partnered Salsa routine which includes lots of lifts and tricks, turns and fast footwork. And

then all-female routine which combines several Latin styles – Salsa, Merengue, Latin Hip Hop and Brazilian

Budo kan- Japanese Martial Arts

Budo Kan of Australia is a family owned and operated martial arts club based in Adelaide South Australia. The

martial arts they teach provide an all-round self defense system that can be used in situations that learning any

one style will not cover. Coordinator- Carl

Rare pulse- A rhythmic union

Indian classical music is based on ragas (colours) which are scales and melodies that provide the foundation for a

performance. Here we are trying to unify (jugalbandi) the Hindustani and Karnatic music with a touch of prayer

for women who are suffering all over the world. Directed by- Rajesh George. Musicians :Sitar - Alan Possett,

Just for fun – Jazz dance

JFF was found in February 1994 and was designed to meet the growing demand within the entertainment indus-

try to provide trained performers and cheerleaders for sporting events and functions. Now entering its 20th year,

JFF continues the established tradition of developing dance lessons around the central focus of having fun and

being passionate about dance. Appearing in the Kalamela for the second year. JFF is excited to present an upbeat

Jazz Dance routine titled ‘Bom Bom’.

Wedding Special by Desi Beats – Bollywood dance

Indian weddings are filled with ritual and celebration that continue for several days. We are showcasing a colour-

ful and joyful pre-wedding ceremony where the bride and the groom’s families are brought together socially. This
