The Big Lunch Sunday 2nd June.

The Big lunch is all about Community Spirit encouraging as many people as possible to lunch with their neighbours on one day a year. It started in 2009 and will hopefully go from strength to strength. Just under 200 portions of Hog Roast were served, a few of which were seconds !, a magnificent turn out. Nearly £400 was raised for the repair of the church clock. Police support for Neighbourhood Watch has been great but the recent budget reductions have seen a withdrawal of much of that support although the Police still need and want Citizen assistance to do their job. So please do get involved. Saffron Walden Steering Committee needs a lot of new blood. The posts it needs to fill if it is to continue include: An Editor for Observer Bulletins Editor Web Master Data Compiler Security Equipment Manager Events Manager and Team Steering Committee Minute Secretary – 6 afternoons a year in Thaxted I do hope people will come forward. Apply to Chairman Alan Johnson 543153 / 07947 947698 [email protected] Thanks to all who helped and to the School and Governors for permission to use the School Hall, and to the Village Hall Committee for permission to use the Village Hall, both free of charge. Also to our donors who include a modest contribution from the Parish Council on behalf of Council Tax Payers and a generous sum from the Village Hall Committee.

Crimes Reported

Reports of crimes data from Police is still undergoing change. Generally crime is reduced except for burglaries which have increased, particularly from sheds. To get reports directly ask Essex Watch Liaison Officer Brenda Cross 101 X 420279, 07970 599923 [email protected] Report 24/7 any knowledge or suspicion of criminal acts to Essex Police 999 (if urgent), 101 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers 0800 555 111.

Edited extracts prepared by Editor of Radwinter Times

Double glazed doors security weakness The rise of uPVC and other double glazed doors has introduced a security weakness that is being exploited by burglars. The problem is the lock. Euro cylinder locks can be snapped, using simple DIY tools, in a matter of seconds. In December 2012 West Yorkshire Police said 27 per cent of burglaries in the region had been committed using this technique.

There is a simple solution– replace the lock with a Snap Secure euro cylinder lock, which has been designed and developed specifically to counter lock snapping.” Avocet’s ABS Snap Secure lock is accredited to British Standard TS007 retro-fit euro cylinder which was developed in response to the rise in lock snapping. The lock has passed the new SS312 Sold Secure Diamond standard, and is approved by Secured by Design, a Master Locksmiths Association (MLA). It features a patented system that guarantees a total barrier against forced entry even if the lock is snapped and it also allows the door to be opened and locked using the key from the inside.

Avocet Hardware is the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network’s new primary sponsor for security products. More information about its ABS locks can be found at www.homesecurityandsafety.co.uk. Alternatively call 01484 725725.
