***To illustrated the core mobile gis concept of PoiMapper we have this slide. On the left are the poi types of interest such water points, schools and homesteads, each with its own icon type. The selected Poi types are then visualize on the map by selecting an area from the area hierarchy. Area hierarchies can be fully application specific as in this case with have to districts of Kenya: Kilifi an Ganze and then divisions, locations and sublocations under them.

On the right is a standard OSM background map, in this case provided by Mapquest. On top of the background map we have layered the administrative areas at location level for whole of Kenya, which at this zoom level is seen as black. Also since we have selected households the households and Kilifi, households icons are visible on the map, too.

This combination of POI type icons, area hierarchies, and layered maps in a ready package for use is what we think is unique, especially when combined with the mobility aspects.*When we zoom down to Kilifi level we can see that a typical map such as OSM, Google and such do typically provide quite limited information, the only information they provide is basically the name Kilifi and a few roads. The rest, all the black areas and names are part of the separately integrated government information of locations and then household information collected by Plan Kenya in this case.*If zoom down even to a lower location level showing the Jibana location the base map is just grey, there would be absolutely now useful information available. The lines and area names are from the separate admin area map layer. In addition we have e in map selected to show also health center as red icons, tracing centers as green with dollar sign, water points as brows with a water drop and local interest groups as violet with a human symbol. At this level one can then see the concrete benefits of separately integrated and collected map POI data.***
