Library Sessions at Christ Church School
One of our mums, Louise, (mum of Joseph (Y5) and Jessica (Y1)) is going to run a library session every Monday—3.30pm-4.30pm—for children to come along with their parent(s) or carer, and borrow library books from the school.
Come and choose a good read!
Royal Albert Hall Classical Spectacular Workshop
On Friday 6th March, Year 3 took part in a musical workshop run by members of the Albert Band from the Royal Albert Hall. They then performed a piece they had learned to their parents and Y2.
“I really enjoyed this workshop - the band leader was very funny! My group played the rattle water bottles, which were plastic bottles filled with rice or beads. We had to smile or laugh at our group captain when we looked at him, to keep us smiling while we performed. We all learned our parts together, to get our rhythm and we were given a song which we had to play our rattle bottles to. We then were given a 1234 beat to learn. The song we played along to was called the ‘Can Can’.” Kaspian
“I really enjoyed performing to all of Y2 and some of the parents. It
was the best workshop I think I have ever done! After we had prac-
tised our tunes separately, we then all joined in together—I really liked
that! I played the same instrument as Kaspian; the other instruments
were big drums, little drums, woods (which was a big stick and a little
stick knocked together) and metal bells. It was all very noisy when we
joined in together and Miss McHenry got to join in with us too!“ Bonnie
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO PARENTS
May we politely request that, in the interest of confidentiality, parents do not come into class after school hours looking through the children’s books, especially when there is no teacher in the room. We have open mornings and afternoons when it is appropriate to do this.
Recommended Reads!
Each week we are going to put a book recommendation into the newsletter. We will recommend a book for a different age group each week!
World Book Day Half Term Homework Projects
Huge congratulations to everybody who took part in 'The Big Book Off' homework challenge. The contributions were AMAZING and the exhibitions really brightened up our corridor and classrooms.

Albert Bridge Crossing
Parents and children please be aware that the two green man signals at the crossing on the Albert Bridge Embankment over to Cheyne Walk are not always in sync. Parents, please warn children coming to school or going home on their own that they must stop and wait in the island in the middle of the road and check that the green man is showing on the second crossing, before they cross and not assume it is showing the same signal as the first crossing.
A couple of families have been witness to separate incidents when a cyclist and a pedestrian assumed they could just cross straight over.
Year 2 Trip to St Paul’s Cathedral
Year 2 attended an Easter Workshop at St Paul’s Cathedral on Monday this week. “I enjoyed St Paul’s but the scary part was when we climbed up 528 stairs to the
top of the dome where there was a balcony and it was very high! We went to a
place where there was a cross and the lady that works there said that it was a
special cross which they put in place at Easter time. We were told by a lady who
played the part of Mary Magdalene all about the last supper. We lit a candle at
the alter for our school while we were there.” Molly
“When we looked out of the balcony, we could see all the famous London
buildings. It was very high and very windy! The lady told us the Easter story and
we learned that the soldiers put a crown of thorns on Jesus’ head. We talked
about Palm Sunday and waved palm leaves like the people did when Jesus came
to Jerusalem. The lady had baskets which held objects that all were related to
the Easter story, like the cups for the last supper.” Henry
Year 5 Trip to the Natural History Museum
On Wednesday this week, Y5 visited the Natural History Museum to take part in a Mary Anning Workshop. The fossil on the right is of the Ichthyosaurus that she found on the beach at Lime Regis.
We learnt that Mary Anning was the first woman
palaeontologist, she was English and born in 1799. We
discovered how she discovered the fossils of dinosaurs and
other prehistoric animals. She found the fossils on the
coast of Lyme Regis in Dorset. Mary was exploring with
her brother Joseph and dog, Rex, when she found the
fossils.” Theodor
“Mary Anning’s most famous
discovery was the Ichthyosaurus
which she took six months to
uncover. She cleaned it and sold
it to a museum in London. She
ran her business selling fossils
with her mother. We also learnt
that when she was a baby, whilst
out with her nanny, she got
struck by lightning and so people
called her the miracle child
because she survived.” Cecily
Dear Parents and Carers, As you know, we have been carefully monitoring the information we receive from the Department of Education and Public Health, we are following all instructions that we have received. Whilst there is national guidance available, we are also fortunate that we have a strong network of schools we work alongside which has been invaluable for sharing information and talking through decisions. Everyone has an opinion and not everyone will agree with certain actions but where decisions are made they have been made in the best interests of everyone. As in life, it’s very rare that everybody agrees with everything! We have a challenging situation developing in relation to the global coronavirus-covid-19. As yet, we have not been instructed to close. As a state school we need to follow government guidance and will remain open until we are told otherwise or we have insufficient staff to teach the children. The current situation is compounded by the fact that colds, sore throats etc. are prevalent at this time of year. Please keep your children at home for 48 hours if they display such symptoms. Trips will be assessed on an individual basis; some will be cancelled but with others you will have the right to withdraw your child. This will be communicated with you accordingly. The risk assessment will be taken into account. The main decider is if we need to use public transport. We have been preparing for possible closure of both of our schools in the coming days or weeks. We are expecting teachers to continue working, perhaps remotely. We will send work home via the family e mail address that we normally communicate with you. We also plan to place homework on the website. it is a good idea for all parents to consider plans you might need to put in place for the care of your children should it be necessary for the schools to close. Our primary goals are to ensure that: a) Your children remain healthy and happy b) We are able to continue your child’s education in the event of the school closing National guidance can be accessed through this link: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public Thank you as ever for your support and understanding. we are doing our very best to do the best for our children and families during this difficult time. Best wishes, Avis Avis Hawkins Head Teacher Christ Church & Holy Trinity CofE Primary Schools
