• Government White Paper on 14-19 Education and Skills
• Specialised Diplomas will be available at 3 levels across 14 lines of learning
• First teaching from September 2008 for phase 1, September 2009 for phase 2, September 2010 for phase 3
• Build on existing good practice and partnerships

• Will be employer led through the Sector Skills Councils
• Attract young people into the sector, widening participation
• Provide progression into either employment or further / higher education
• Meet the skill and knowledge required for employment
• Provide sector relevant learning in real or realistic environments

How are the Diplomas made up?
Principal learning • sector related, determines Diploma title
Additional / specialist learning• specialisation in sector, complimentary area
Generic learning• functional skills, project, personal learning skills
Work experience• 10 days at each level
