14 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOURLINKEDIN PRESENCE IN 2014

1. UPDATE YOUR PROFILE PHOTO

How recent is your profile photo?

Does it look like you do now, or how you did years ago?

A good profile photo must be professional, recent, and recognisable.

2. REFRESH YOUR HEADLINEWhen people search on LinkedIn, the first impression they get of you comes from your profile photo and professional headline.

Simply stating your job function (i.e. “Financial Advisor at XYZ Company”) just won’t cut it.

A killer headline should include keywords, and offer a snapshot of who you are as a professional and an individual (a little personal twist is always a good idea).

3. UPDATE YOUR SUMMARYWhen was the last time you revisited your summary?

Is it still relevant and up to date?

A good LinkedIn summary is written in a conversational tone, and makes people want to do business with you.

Try reading your current summary out loud… is it working? If not, it might be time for a rewrite.

4. CONNECT WITH CURRENT CLIENTS

Existing clients are the perfect people to seek recommendations from!

Connecting with clients on LinkedIn will also help you to keep in touch and maintain a strong, positive professional relationship.

Always make sure you include a personalised message when you send an invitation, it need not be long, but never ever send an automated request.

5. ADD A CALL TO ACTIONWhen people look at your profile, is it crystal clear what they should do if they want to contact you about your products or services?

It is never safe to assume that people will ‘figure it out’.

Make sure you are clear and specific, and include a call to action that will help move viewers one step closer to becoming a new lead or client.

6. REQUEST NEW RECOMMENDATIONS

A well written recommendation is one of the best ways to boost your credibility on LinkedIn.

Only seek out endorsements from credible sources, who know you and can genuinely vouch for you in a professional environment.

7. ADD RICH MEDIAAdding rich media to your profile is a brilliant way to showcase your work and visually represent who you are.

LinkedIn lets you add presentations, videos, documents, audio, images, and links to your best content and resources.

8. POST MORE OFTENBut not too often!

Sharing relevant, industry related content each day is a great way to keep yourself top of mind among your network. Just be careful not to overdo it and end up filling your contacts’ news feed… this can just become annoying.

9. ENGAGEAnother great way to stay top of mind with your network is to engage with the posts that they share.

Make an effort to read what others are sharing and comment where you can with insights and opinions to start and engage in conversations.

You never know what it could lead to!

10. CHECK YOUR CONTACT INFO

Is your contact info up to date?

It is good to check your contact info now and then… is the email listed still the one you primarily use? Is the phone number still current? If you have changed jobs or moved office then it is very likely you will need to make some changes.

If your contact info isn’t up to date then you could be missing out on countless opportunities!

11. UPDATE YOUR SKILLS & EXPERTISE

Have you ever been endorsed for skills that aren’t really in line with what you want to be known for?

Of course you have… we all have!

But the good news is you can manage your endorsements, putting the ones you want to be most known for up top, giving you final say over the order in which they appear.

12. SAVE YOUR 3 BEST ADVANCED SEARCHES

Using advanced search is a great way to find targeted leads.

Saving up to 3 (that’s how many LinkedIn will allow) advanced searches will result in LinkedIn sending regular emails with a list of new LinkedIn members who match your search criteria.

How brilliant is that!?

13. REVIEW AND JOIN GROUPS

First things first, review the groups you are a member of and cull those that are not relevant or that you are not interested in any more.

Once you have cleaned up your groups list, search for new groups that are relevant and of interest and join them.

When joining a group make sure to take the time to engage in conversations within that group. Not only can this help you get answers and insight, but can also be a great way to boost your visibility and reach on LinkedIn.

14. GET A STRATEGY!A LinkedIn specific strategy is key to getting the most out of LinkedIn. There is a whole world of features and possibilities within LinkedIn, and the more you look, the deeper you did, the more you discover!

A LinkedIn Strategy will make sure you are using all the right features, sending the right message, and using all the right tactics to get more leads, grow your business and ultimately, make more money.

It will also mean less time wasted figuring things out and not using LinkedIn correctly, and more time spent gathering qualified leads and meeting with prospects.
