The Service for the Lord’s Day PRAYER OF THE DAY (For silent meditation in preparation for worship) Most High God, we are witnesses to the life of Jesus Christ: written in the Law, promised by the prophets, sung by the psalmists; given in love for the world, risen from the dust of death, lifted up in heavenly glory. Let our lives proclaim Christ’s life. Wrap us in your power and presence so that we may worship you always, continually blessing your name; through Jesus Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen. RINGING OF THE HOUR - INTROIT WELCOME —Elder Chris Cvar PRELUDE “Prelude from Suite Antique” John Rutter Deb Raita, flutist *CALL TO WORSHIP Pastor: Sing praises, people of God, sing praises! People: Shout to God with loud songs of joy! Pastor: God is sovereign over creation. The earth belongs to God. People: God is highly exalted. Sing praises! *HYMN NO. 268 “Crown Him with Many Crowns” Diademata *CALL TO CONFESSION Pastor: Plastic cards, shiny cars, brick and glass houses – what idols we fashion with our hands, how much energy and time serving them occupy our hearts! Let us confess how we have misplaced our priorities, and seek the One who asks us to be first in our lives as together we pray… *All who are able may stand. — Hymnals are located at the end of each pew

  • *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Enslaved to sin, we cannot see the lives we lead, God of Glory. Each day and every day, there are those times when we ignore you and your dreams for us. Each week and every week, we find the time to ridicule others, when we could have affirmed them. Each moment, and every moment, though we do not want to admit it, we seek our own way rather than skipping down your path of joy and obedience. We come asking forgiveness for our foolish lives, Eternal Blessing. Deliver us, and break the chains of sin and death, which hold us, captive. Open us to that grace you offer, and give us the gift of the Spirit so we may live as people of the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ….

    (silent confession)

Pastor: We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS Pastor: In the beginning was God, and at the end will be God, and in every moment in between, there is God: creating, redeeming, and sustaining us. People: And through Christ, gracious love is poured into our empty souls; through the Spirit, peace becomes the gift we can share with those around us. Pastor: Believe the good news: People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven, loved and freed. Alleluia! *GLORIA FOR THE EASTER SEASON Cornell

*PASSING OF THE PEACE Pastor: Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive

one another. The Peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.

Respond to God’s Word *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Unison)

We believe that God’s life-giving Word and Spirit has conquered the powers of sin and death, and therefore also of irreconciliation and hatred, bitterness and enmity, that God’s life-giving Word and Spirit will enable the church to live in a new obedience which can open new possibilities of life for society and the world. • HYMN NO. 264 “At the Name of Jesus” King’s Weston OFFERING Prayer of Dedication and Call to Respond Offertory “Magnificat” - Fuge #32 Johann Pachelbel ANTHEM “Come to the Table” Steve Kupferschmid

Give Thanks to God PASTOR AND ELDERS PREPARE THE TABLE INVITATION Pastor: Come to the table of grace. It’s an open feast. Christ invites us all – the rich and the poor, the sick and the well, the outcast and the honored. Come to the gathering of sinners and saints. Come to this blessed table where Christ reigns. Come and taste the kingdom of God, where all are welcome. This is not a Presbyterian table; it is the Lord’s table. All who

have or who seek faith in God in the way of Christ are welcome to this table.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Pastor: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

    -4-

Pastor: Blessed are you, O Lord our God: You are robed in majesty and glory, girded in mercy and strength. You established the world – the heavens, the earth, the seas. From age to age you reign; from everlasting you are God. Therefore, we praise you, joining the song of the universal church and the heavenly choir: SANCTUS Cornell

Pastor: Holy are you, O God, and blessed is Jesus Christ, our Savior: Jesus came to fulfill the law, the prophets, and the psalms. Because we remember the life and work of Christ, his ministry among the poor and forsaken, his death upon the cross of human shame, the victory of the empty tomb, and his ascension to glory; we offer our lives in praise and thanksgiving to be a living sacrifice in union with Christ our Lord.

  • Pastor: Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon the gifts of bread and cup we share. Give your Spirit of wisdom and enlighten the eyes of our hearts so that we may know the hope to which you have called us and proclaim the good news of Christ’s coming realm. Through the Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Spirit, we bless you God of glory, now and forever. All: Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

    WORDS OF INSTITUTION

    SHARING BREAD AND WINE

All who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ are welcome at his table. An ancient practice of the Christian Church and one followed by many churches today is inviting communicants to come forward to receive the bread and cup. This act of commitment declares our willingness to receive the sacrament by faith. The elders will say at the giving of the bread, “Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven” and at the giving of the wine, “Jesus Christ, the cup of salvation.” The response is: “Amen!” Take a piece of bread, dip it in the cup, and eat the bread before returning to your pew. This way of receiving the Supper is called intinction. Music During Communion: “Come Down, O Love Divine” (Down Ampney) Ralph Vaughan Williams

*PRAYER (in unison) God most high, we have lifted our hearts to you in this joyful meal with

our risen Lord. Continue to sustain us with your power and draw us into your presence so that we may feast with you in glory at the wedding of heaven and earth; through Christ who lives and reigns forever. Amen.

Go in God’s Name *HYMN NO. 262 “Since Our Great High Priest, Christ Jesus” All Saints *CHARGE Leader: Clap your hands all you people! People: Sing to God with songs of joy! Leader: Go forth praising God, who reigns on high! *BENEDICTION *POSTLUDE “In the Garden” Brant Adams Deb Raita, flutist

If you wish to enjoy the postlude, please remain quietly in your seats. Otherwise, consider it the final Alleluia on the day’s worship

and leave to honor God and serve in Christ’s name.

WE GREET YOU and are pleased that you have joined us for worship today. Whether you are a guest, member, or friend of the church, we hope you find a warm welcome here. After worship, you are invited and encouraged to enjoy a time of refreshment and fellowship. A FRIENDLY REMINDER: Please turn off cell phones before the beginning of the worship service out of consideration for other worshipers. GUESTS ARE INVITED to make a nametag so that we may greet you by name. Tags are located in the front hall beside the guest book on the lectern. Members and friends of St. Andrew are reminded to wear their nametags as well.

THE FELLOWSHIP HOUR TODAY is provided and hosted by Mark Strong. THE FLOWERS TODAY are given by Cathy Bourgeois in honor of John Bourgeois’ birthday and grandson George Pierre’s birthday. THE LEAD ELDER NEXT WEEK is Fred Vaughan. ANTHEM NOTES from Stephen Smith: The on-line resource Hymnary.org shares this information about the hymn  “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven,”  which is the basis of this morning’s anthem:        In the mid-nineteenth century, the pressure was on hymn writers to keep their versifications of psalms as close to the Scriptural text as possible. Henry F. Lyte would have none of this however, and boldly published a book of psalm paraphrases entitled Spirit of the Psalms. Lyte decided he could maintain the spirit of these beautiful texts while still using his own words, probably with the intention of making the reader see the psalms in a new light. One such paraphrase is “Praise, my Soul, the King of Heaven.” Lyte’s text speaks to the love of God and our dependence on Him in a clear and imaginative way. Think of what might happen if we woke up every day with these words on our lips: “Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, evermore His praises sing.” How would our lives change if we walked through our days singing “Alleluia!” or through our times of sorrow declaring that we rest in the gentle hand of God? This is a text with beautiful imagery and thoughtful prose that, like Psalm 103, gives us words to praise our God with heart, mind, and soul.
