Our Vision

!  By being the European Centre of Excellence on CO2 storage, the CO2GeoNet Association aims at being the natural advisor of governments and industry on scientific knowledge on Geological storage of CO2, and at contributing significantly both to the required capacity building on CO2 storage and to the dissemination of new knowledge.

2 CO2GeoNet  8th  Open  Forum,  April  9-‐10,  2013  –  Venice,  San  Servolo  Island

Who are we?

!   CO2GeoNet is the European Network of Excellence on geological storage of CO2

!   a non profit European Research Association !  which collaborates with, works for, and receives

support from a diverse set of entities, partners or clients.

!   a large and growing Independent group of leading research institutions unmatched anywhere else in Europe or internationally.

!   the only scientific community with comprehensive multidisciplinary expertise, focused on CO2 storage and independent of political, industrial or societal pressures

3 CO2GeoNet  8th  Open  Forum,  April  9-‐10,  2013  –  Venice,  San  Servolo  Island

!   Our mission is driven by non-partisan scientific objectives.

!   Scientific honesty and quality, collegiality, openness and respect of the diversity of stakeholder’s opinions.

!   independency, integrity, objectivity and impartiality

!   Ethics: Neither seek nor accept financial support that would threaten those values

!   We collaborates with, and welcomes funding from public or private organizations that respect these values

Our Ambitions

!   Provide and disseminate integrated scientific research results and synthesized knowledge to contribute to the improvement of technical, economic, regulatory aspects and public awareness of CO2 storage

!   Be the preferred source of impartial scientific and technical information and advice for the European Union, industry, regulators, the general public and other CCS stakeholders

!   Contribute to the identification of knowledge gaps and the formulation of new research targets

!   Foster interaction and exchange of information and views between CO2 storage researchers and CCS stakeholders

!   …

Our Ambitions

!   Foster the training of upcoming generations of scientists that will be needed for a widespread deployment of the technology !   being a source of unbiased information, excellent tutors

and training programmes in the science of CO2 storage

!   Expand our membership in order to provide an excellent, robust, multidisciplinary and pan-European knowledge/skills base for the implementation of the geological storage of CO2

6 CO2GeoNet  8th  Open  Forum,  April  9-‐10,  2013  –  Venice,  San  Servolo  Island

Benefit for our members

!   Access to knowledge: Having a pool of expertise that extends across the entirety of relevant disciplines, being larger than that achievable by any one single member

!   International positioning: Critical mass of knowledge and expertise that ease the positioning and collaboration with large international institutions

!   A pan-Europe dimension creating an international profile for CO2 storage activities in Europe.

!   Access to national opportunities of members’ countries through alliances with relevant members
