Platform for digitisation within industrial value chain
15 – 17 May 2018
C4I – Connectivity for Industry – is the first port of call for ma-
nufacturing companies that want to secure their competitiveness
through digitalising and connecting their value chain. C4I brings
together providers of IT and system solutions for industrial appli-
cations with decision makers and users from manufacturing com-
panies’ production, planning, maintenance and IT units. In addition to
face-to-face meetings and the opportunity to share knowledge at
exhibition stands, the specific benefits of digitalised and connected
production facilities are brought to life by means of real examples
of the applications at work, connected process chains, and talks
with a strong practical focus.
Major industrial companies and SMEs alike can learn about the so-
lutions on offer at first hand, and discover how to stay competitive
by digitalising their value chain.
ON THE BUTTON. THE CONCEPT.
C4I complements existing side-by-side fairs SMART Automation Austria and INTERTOOL.
Firmly anchored in the industries covered by both, C4I forms a natural part of a com-
prehensive approach to informing SMEs, which make up the largest and most important
visitor segment.
The parallels between the three events form an integrated whole, making connectivity
more tangible. Visitors benefit from the resulting combined know-how in industrial auto-
mation, manufacturing engineering, and digitisation and connected processes. Join us on
our mission – become part of C4I.

We are specifically targeting visitors
from the following sectors:
Manufacturing and
processing industries Mechanical and plant engineering
Design engineering
Research facilities and institutes
AN AFFINITY FOR TECHNOLOGY. THE VISITORS.
Comprehensive connectivity is stil l in
its infancy in the mechanical and plant
engineering sector, where the much
vaunted fourth industrial revolution
could be better described as digital evo-
lution, realised step-by-step in numerous
sub-processes.
Efficient data exchange, digital labelling
of products and analysis, evaluation and
interpretation of data for production
management are at the centre of this
development. The key decision makers
and influencers – and the core target
group for C4I – are senior managers in
all areas of companies, primarily CTOs
and COOs, heads of production, IT, and
R&D, engineers, and system integrators
and developers.
One of the major challenges is the trans-
formation from ‘big data’ to ‘smart data’

Armin Pehlivan, Beckhoff “Digitisation in indunstry is a reality. Initial ideas from the past
few years have since become real-life solutions which allow machines to be used more
productively. Digitisation makes it possible to deploy existing and new equipment more
effectively in terms of both quality and quantity, enhancing competitiveness along the
way. For me, expanding the existing SMART Automation/Intertool fair line-up to include
C4I is the logical next step in today’s industrial landscape.”
Marcus Schellerer, Rittal “No company can afford to ignore the digital transformation;
Industry 4.0 is permanently changing production management and processes in manufactu-
ring. Big data is the big topic. In an industrial context, this means there is an ever increasing
need for IT applications that allow manufacturing companies to respond to new require-
ments rapidly with maximum flexibility. Rittal and its partners offer many solutions to these
new challenges, which is why we are in favour of C4I entering the market in 2018 in parallel
with SMART Automation/Intertool, as it focuses exclusively on digital opportunities in the
industrial environment.”
Gebhard Aberer, DMG Mori “In order to continue to provide the best possible service
for our customers, we at DMG MORI as leading innovators in tool machine building, rely
greatly on the availability of highly qualified manpower in the fields of connectivity, di-
gitisation and industrial information technology. This expertise is a necessity if we are
to keep pace with the rapid developments being experienced in digital technology within
industrial contexts. We look forward to getting together with a wide variety of educati-
onal and on-going training institutions at the INTERTOOL, SMART Automation Austria and
C4I – Connectivity for Industry, and to intensive interaction with numerous well-trained
specialists and the employees of tomorrow.”
Mario Schirnhofer, Schirnhofer Werk-
zeugmaschinen “The structure of in-
dustry in Austria tends to be shaped by
small and medium-sized enterprises –
and this is reflected in the visitor profile
at the nation’s industrial trade fair. As
a long-standing Intertool exhibitor we
are very happy that these companies
are being given the opportunity to find
out everything they need to know about
connected manufacturing and digitisa-
tion first-hand at C4I – Connectivity for
Industry. Visitors have the chance to see
applications that have already been im-
plemented and the value that digitisation
adds in a manufacturing value chain.

Walter Eichner, Pilz “All industrial appli-
cations are being confronted by the topic
of digitisation, particularly with regard to
innovations in technological processes and
business models. The technologies offe-
red by Pilz support modular automation
solutions in line with the requirements of
Industry 4.0. We want to proactively dis-
cuss the future challenges that digitisation
and connected manufacturing in industry
will bring with other visitors at the new
SMART Automation/Intertool/C4I fair trio,
and develop solutions towards finding out
what the smart factory of tomorrow will
look like.”
Johannes Riha, GGW Gruber “Ongoing
digitisation in industry and in individual
value chains has serious implications for
the competitiveness of Austrian compa-
nies and for the country as a business
location per se. That is why we, as a
long-established Austrian company and
Intertool exhibitor, have supported the
new C4I – Connectivity for Industry 2018
format from the outset. Fully automated
industrial processes, connected manu-
facturing and, as a result, increased ef-
ficiency are the key strategic challenges
right now. We need to talk about these to-
pics in their wider context and help carry
them forward, so that we are in a positi-
on to continue to meet the requirements
of the market.
Gerhard Melcher, Boehlerit “Boehlerit is synonymous with delivering customer-specific
solutions and services – and proximity to customers is essential to this. Whenever I
talk to our customers about the current key drivers in industrial production, such as
digitisation, connected manufacturing, big data, security, etc., the overriding viewpoint
is positive and open. However, there are still lots of open questions, particularly in small
and medium-sized enterprises, regarding the effects of digitisation on business models,
value chains and customer relationships. As an exhibitor at Intertool , Boehlerit is pleased
to see that connectivity and digitisation in industrial contexts have been given their own
platform in the shape of C4I – Connectivity for Industry. It makes the industrial trade
show in Vienna focusing on production engineering even more interesting for visitors
from all sectors of industry.”
Andreas Hinterschweiger, Westermo “C4I – Connectivity 4 Industry has the potential
to become a new flagship fair in Austria for Westermo and a fixed entry in our annual
exhibition calendar, particularly as its motto, “Your key to the digital future”, is similar
to ours in many ways. It’s great that C4I, held in parallel with SMART Automation Vienna/
Intertool , adds a separate show specifically catering to all areas surrounding industrial
data communication. The future challenges in this segment call for a clearly defined
platform where exhibitors can present their product innovations and solutions to expert
international visitors from industry. This industry platform in Vienna is also a gateway
to Eastern Europe, offering us an opportunity to expand our network of customers and
build on existing business relationships.”
