Should I be on Wikipedia?
● Wikipedia has an extremely high domain authority, since it is a “trusted” site by Google. “A core part of Google’s algorithm uses links from trusted websites.”
● “Not only is it a trusted link in Google’s eyes, it is also a great source of traffic.” Even links below the bulk of the each page’s content, can get attention. For SEO expert Jon Cooper, “one link [can provide] 50 visitors a week for a small niche website. The value isn’t in question, it’s how you can get your links on the page.”
● “Wikipedia pages rank for half of all searches, which creates a feedback loop. Wikipedia pages rank so well because people link to them. They continue to rank even better for a wider range of searches because high ranking pages get more links.”
● “Journalists and other experts read Wikipedia and so there is a big amplification effect. People will notice the link and link to it themselves, because they see it there and repeat what is said in Wikipedia. It is a very powerful social media.” Jonathan Hochman—SEO consultant

Did you know?A 2007 study by Google revealed that information on Wikipedia was almost as accurate as that in the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Wikipedia Facts
1. Direct sources (e.g., your website, work, articles)“No company or organization is considered inherently notable. No organization is exempt from this requirement, no matter what kind of organization it is, including schools.” - Wikipedia
2. Independent sources (e.g., other website mentions, work, articles, news written about your organization)“A company, corporation, organization, school, team, religion, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in secondary sources.” -Wikipedia
3. Audience“Evidence of significant coverage by international or national, or at least regional, media is a strong indication of notability.”-Wikipedia
4. Unbiased, factual information “Advertising is prohibited as an official Wikipedia policy.” -

Thanks to the Web, and networks in
general, the cost of publishing and
sharing information has diminished
substantially — which makes wikis the
killer app for corporations. Prior to wikis,
an expensive enterprise application
would have been required for
sophisticated information management.
But because most wikis are based on
open-source code, they're free for
companies who opt for an open-source
distribution, or relatively cheap for
companies willing to pay for their
implementation and support.
Wikis are designed to facilitate the
exchange of information within and
between teams. Content in a wiki can be
updated without any real lag, without any
real administrative effort, and without the
need for distribution — users/contributors
(with wikis, they're one and the same)
simply visit and update a common Web
site.
Wikis can centralize all types of corporate
data, such as spreadsheets, Word
documents, PowerPoint slides, PDFs —
anything that can be displayed in a
browser. They can also embed standard
communications media such as e-mail
and IM. Heavy-duty PHP-based wikis can
directly interface with company
databases to bring in audio and picture
files. A wiki's functionality is limited only
by the programming skills of the person
who implements it. -info week
● A Wikipedia page can rank well in
search results alongside your site
and your other branded
properties. As such, a Wikipedia
page can be a nice way to
influence more of the search
results than you would have
without the page.
● Wikipedia pages may help with
brand awareness. Wikipedia is a
top website and receives billions
of page views each month. It’s
possible that some Wikipedia
users may naturally stumble
upon your Wikipedia page, or
find it via a link from other
Wikipedia pages on similar
topics.
● Google uses Wikipedia as a
source for its “artificial
intelligence” projects and
currently draws summary
information from Wikipedia to
produce its Google Knowledge
Graph listings. If your product
has a Google Knowledge Graph,
you may be able to influence the
content via your Wikipedia page.
Any company is technically eligible to have
a Wikipedia page.
