Owner Chef Rene Cruz opened Lucky Buddha at the end of February, 2015 and has been garnering kudos for his restaurant ever since. From a menu featuring craft cocktails and pan-Asian cuisine you can
select Thai-style wings, Japanese ramen or udon, and Vietnamese bánh mi. Chef Rene Cruz prepares every dish with his take on those Asian cuisines featuring a fusion of flavors inspired by traditional Thai and Japanese flavors to Vietnamese and Chinese dishes.
Just one example of his approach to a traditional favorite is the restaurant’s best-selling bánh mi known as Porkapocalypse. Bánh mi is a term used to refer to a type of Vietnamese meat-filled sandwich on bánh mì bread. The Lucky Buddha’s Porkapocalypse is not your typical bánh mì. It is a huge sandwich loaded with four types of pork on soft Italian bread.
Lucky Buddha also boasts a large back patio where, weather permitting, customers can enjoy live music, games, food, and booze – don’t forget those craft cocktails. You can enjoy live music most weekends. Some of the upcoming featured performers include Billy Barnett, Steve Ewing, The Wooden Wheels, Trip Daddy’s, and Wrath of Khan.
The Lucky Buddha is located at 3701 South Jefferson Avenue in space previously occupied by Jefferson Bistro on Jefferson Street just south of Cherokee in the Gravois Park Neighborhood of South St. Louis. Gravois Park is a historic neighborhood roughly bounded by Jefferson Avenue, Chippewa Street, Grand Boulevard and Cherokee Street, the Gravois Park neighbor-hood is a diverse mix of homeowners, renters and businesses to which the Lucky Buddha now happily belongs.
Lucky Buddha’s current hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m., Friday from 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information about Lucky Buddha and upcoming events please visit the Lucky Buddha website at luckybuddhastl.com or follow it on Facebook.
