End Of Year It is that time of year again where I get to thank all the wonderful community , stu-
dents and staff we have working at Briar Road. It has been an extremely difficult
and busy year with all the programs we have begun.
One of the most successful initiatives we have put in place was the ‘Community
Room’. It has been fabulous to see all the community enjoying a cuppa in the
Community Room. Also, we have appreciated all the shredding, laminating and
book covering that you have done for us.
Staff News For all those parents who didn’t attend our Presentation Day next year we have
some staff changes. Mr Bessesen and Miss Peltola will be leaving us at the end of
this year. Mrs Rossbridge, Miss Asper have been fortunate to pick up permanent
positions within the Department of Education and Communities. Mrs Searle will
take up a permanent Assistant Principals Position at Glenwood Public School.
Mrs Searle has been at Briar Road for 12 years and has made many positive contri-
butions to our school and community. We wish Mrs Searle all the best from the
students, school and the community.
Mrs McLerie and Mrs Hodges will take up the positions of Relieving Assistant
Principal in 2012.
Miss Willoughby will be leaving us to go on 12mths maternity leave and Mr Gracia
and Miss Klumpp will be returning from 12mths leave.
I will put a full list of the who’s who of Briar for 2012 in the first Newsletter of
next year.
I WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW
YEAR!
We look forward to seeing you all next year.

This term we were lucky enough to have Leanne Draper from Burnside run ‘Books for Airds’ in our
community room. The program ran for 8 weeks where we had a dedicated groups of parents and pre-
school students participate actively each week. All had the opportunity to participate in craft and read-
ing activities based on a focus book each week. Students were then lucky enough to take a reading book
home each week to continue reading at home. Students enthusiastically completed homework each
week, showing how they are recognising print in their local environment. Well done and thanks to all
involved. It was a fun learning experience!
Stay tuned for next
years program dates…

I would like to take this opportunity to say “ Thank You” to all the wonderful the Community Tutors, parents and carers
that have given up their time to assist in the classroom by listening to students read, sharpen pencils, laminate, cut out and
sort notes.
I would also like to add how great it has been working with the Briar Road Public School Community. This was my first year
as your Community Engagement Officer and I have enjoyed meeting and spending time with you. The Community Room
will be back next year, so please feel confortable to come in for a cuppa after you have dropped off your children.
Also keep an eye out for Parent Excursions notes, we will be having an excursion at least once a term. Don’t forget to ‘like’ our
facebook page…just search Briar Road Public School (Community)
I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you in 2012—Jessica Jones

What KR have been up
to!
KR can’t believe that it is almost time to say goodbye
to our Kindergarten room and move up to Year 1! We
have been very busy getting ready to be grown up
Year 1 kids.
KR have been reading ‘Too Many Pears!’ by Jackie
French in Accelerated Literacy. We have enjoyed
hearing about Pamela and her obsession with green
pears and red pears, yellow pears and brown pears and
pears in chocolate sauce! We are now really good at
spotting speech marks and using different words for said.
We have all been working really hard with Mrs Barnes
to try and get to reading level 8 by then end of the
year. We love to read with Mrs Barnes and she helps us
with our sight words and our reading.
In TEN time KR have been playing lots of games with dice and cards to help us with
adding and subtracting. Lots of us are very clever and can now add things that we
can’t even see!
We have had a great time together in KR and have made lots of wonderful friends.
We can’t wait for Year 1!
