Welcome to St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church. Holy worship is vital to our Christian life. Out of our worship of God we are affirmed, challenged, and strengthened as disciples of Jesus Christ. We are glad you have joined us this Lord’s Day!

GATHERINGWELCOME Kelly W. HostetlerVOLUNTARY Steven B. BlackmonANNOUNCEMENTS Mission Moment: Peacemaking Offering Lydia Onimo*CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive), from Psalm 78:1-4 Nick Favret Listen, my people, to my teaching, and pay attention to what I say. I am going to use wise

sayings and explain mysteries from the past, things we have heard and known, things that our forebears told us.

We will not keep them from our children; we will tell the next generation about the Lord’s power and great deeds, and the wonderful things God has done.

Let us worship God!*PRAYER OF THE DAY*HYMN 385 “All People That on Earth Do Dwell” old hundredthCALL TO RECONCILIATION All too often, we tell God we will do better, and be better, and then just go on living the

same way we always have. Let this be the moment, when we tell our God of our failures and faithlessness, so we can go forth to work in that kingdom of grace and hope. Join me as we pray this unison prayer, followed by a time of silent confession.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) We would want to be fountains of hope for others, God of glory, but people find only

hardened hearts. We would like to be transformed people, but our stubborn pride prevents us from bending a knee to you. We long to stand with those who are in need, but our selfishness keeps our backs rigid in judgment. Forgive us, God who came down to us. Humble us, that we might be true servants to the broken and lost. Split open our frozen hearts, that compassion might flow freely to those who are hurting. Fill our minds with the presence of your Spirit, that we might learn how to follow Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, into that kingdom of grace and hope.

Silence is kept

KYRIE

DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS (responsive) This is the good news: in Christ, God's plan for salvation was accomplished. You are forgiven, you are made new. We will complete God's joy by sharing compassion, forgiveness, hope, with everyone we

meet. Thanks be to God. Amen. *Please stand as you are able. Please silence cell phones during the worship service.

his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

INTRODUCTION Kelly W. Hostetler

Hear these words of our Lord Jesus Christ:

“All authority in heaven and in earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Obeying the word of our Lord Jesus and confident of his promises, we baptize those whom God has called to be his own. Let us remember with joy our own baptism as we celebrate this sacrament.

PRESENTATION SCAPC Elder, Dawn Talbot

On behalf of the session, I present Ethan Alexander Decker to receive the Sacrament of Baptism.

DECLARATION OF INTENT

To the parents: Chris & Emily Decker

Do you desire that Ethan be baptized? We do.

Relying on God’s grace, do you promise to live the Christian faith, and to teach that faith to him? We do.

To the congregation:

Do you, the congregation of St. Charles Avenue, members of the church of Jesus Christ, promise to guide and nurture this child, by word and deed, with love and prayer, encouraging him to know and follow Christ and be a faithful disciple? We do.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Donald R. Frampton

To the parents:

Chris & Emily, by presenting Ethan for baptism, you announce your faith in Jesus Christ, and show that you want him to know, love, and serve Christ. Do you now claim God’s solemn promises on behalf of your son, looking in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for his salvation? We do.

Do you now dedicate Ethan to God, promising that, with God’s help, you will try to provide a Christian example - through prayer, through teaching our faith, and through service? We do.

Do you understand that you are Ethan’s primary teachers and that at this moment we enter a sacred partnership to bring him up in the ways of the Lord? We do.

BAPTISM
