John Abraham and item numbers? No wayNEW DELHI, (IANS) After making the audience laugh with "WelcomeBack", actor John Abraham says his next film "Rocky Handsome" will"raise the bar of action" in India. In fact, he says his action sequencesin the Nishikant Kamat directorial, are like his "item numbers".The actor-producer, who promises some never-seen-before actionwith the movie, has trained hard for the Aikido, Hapkido and KravMaga forms of mar tial ar ts that are featured in the actioner. "'RockyHandsome' has got a lot of hand-to-hand combat. It's completely dif-ferent. No one has ever seen action designed like this before in Hindicinema," John told IANS. He had to train for a month to perfect theaction."Just like how actors train for songs and dance sequences, I trainedmyself for action. There are eight or nine action sequences in the filmthat are my item numbers. Nishikant and I actually joked that we havegot our item numbers in the form of action," he quipped. "I have trainedso intently for it. I trained myself for like 12 hours every day. It'sactually tough and takes a toll on you. But what has come out finally,is amazing. The audience will love watching a different type of film,"the 42-year-old added. While it's definite that "Rocky Handsome" willbe high on action, it won't be devoid of emotion.Talking about it, John said: "I must draw a parallel here... just like'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' had a child, even 'Rocky Handsome' has a beauti-ful kid and more than the action, it's the emotion that people will walkaway after watching that film. Nevertheless, he guarantees that "With

'Rocky Handsome', we will raise the bar of action in this country. NowI've just star ted 'Force 2' and I'm nervous because we have to gobeyond that ('Rocky Handsome'), and that's exactly what we are try-ing." Sunny Leone has great work ethic: 'Luv U Alia' directorMUMBAI, (IANS) Filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh says actress Sunny Leone, who will be seen in a cameo in his for thcoming Kannada film"Luv U Alia", has a "great work ethic" and he enjoyed working with the sultry siren. "It has been an absolute delight working withSunny. She has great work ethic. Originally we had decided to do four changes for the song 'Kamakshi'. But working with Sunnyturned out to be so smooth that we were running ahead of schedule," Lankesh said in a statement. The director also added thatSunny was "very cooperative" and also gave some valuable suggestions. "We decided to add a couple of looks and experimentwith a couple as well. Sunny was very cooperative and she also gave some valuable suggestion for the looks. She has a keen eyefor style and detail," he added. Featuring actors Ravichandran and Bhoomika Chawla in lead roles, the romantic drama willfeature the "Jism 2" star in an interesting role. "Luv U Alia" will have its Kannada release on Friday, following which a Hindi-dubbed version of the movie will release across India.

Imagine you are riding an unruly mare who trots tossing you about, and then after nearly two hour fifteen minutes of a tumultuous andawful ride, reaches you at your destination, safe and sound. That isexactly what you would experience while watching Director Nikhil Advani's"Katti Batti". On the face of it, "Katti Batti" is supposed to be a rom-combetween a die-hard romantic and a commitment-phobic girl, at least that'swhat the trailers promised. But what you get is a potpourri of emotionaltrajectories offered in a non-linear, confusing and obscure manner.Narrated from Madhav Kabra (Imran Khan) aka Maddy's point of view, thenarration begins with an inexplicable, found footage technique revealing hislive-in relationship with Payal Malhotra (Kangana Ranaut). And then we aresuddenly thrown into the emergency ward of a hospital where the doctorsand Maddy's friends are trying to revive him after his alleged suicide attempt. After Maddy is successfully revived, we learn that his drinking Phenyl wasan accident. And what follows is Maddy's pursuit to convince his ladylove tobe friends with him once again. Their on-and-off relationship has now hit rockbottom after 5 years of living together.Kangana and Imran make a lovely, volatile pair. Their on-screen chemistry ispalpable. On the performance front, the film is Imran Khan's canvas. His is the onlycharacter that is well etched. With his look recollecting the charm of Diltonfrom Archie's comics, Imran is honest, charming and expressively convinc-ing. You like him when he woos his girlfriend, admire him when he sticks tohis guns and hate him when he is boorish and callous. On the other hand, Kangana Ranaut as Payal Malhotra who comes from a

broken family, is an extension of the various roles you have seen Kanganaperform in her earlier films. She brings nothing new to the table, except for confidently carrying herself offwith a plethora of outlandish wigs, in the staid role.Of the supporting cast, Vivan Bhatena is wasted in a bland role as Payal's ex-boyfriend, Ricky Ahuja. And Manavsi Mamgai as Devika, Maddy's colleagueis passable. But the two characters who really stand out with realistic perfor-mances are Maddy's sister Koyel and his friend Vinay. And with the director's sense of infusing humour, the rest of the supportingcast like Varghese Bhai the estate agent, Mr. Ramalingam - Maddy's southIndian boss, the paan chewing security guard at Payal's house in Delhi andthe salesman at Maddy's school friend Tina's shop, are forced caricatures, who are duds with their over-the-top histrionics. The script written by director Nikhil Advani and Anshul Singhal has a convo-luted screenplay riddled with forced humour and glaring plot holes whichinclude underdeveloped characterisations. For example, Payal is a complexcharacter with perfunctory depth to carry the tale forward. With her familyand back story missing, hers is a half-baked character that is cardboard thin. Also the script is punctuated with songs that do not elevate the viewingexperience. The numbers except for the last one are laborious and ear-sores. They explain the situation but neither do they take the storyforward nor do they reveal anything new. As for the direction of thisfilm, like his previous film "Hero", this one too, is carelessly mountedwith conviction of formulaic Hindi masala films. But what the directordoes not realise is that too much masala could spoil his film, at leastfor the audience. Overall, the tragedy of "Katti Batti" lies in the fault ofits director.

Kanye West bans models fromgossiping about himNEW YORK, (IANS) Rapper-designer Kanye West has bannedNew York Fashion Week models from talking about him andhis wife Kim Kardashian. "Kanye's hacked off some reallyhigh-profile models by asking them to sign the agreement, par ticularly because it stated that he could sue them for up to$10 million if they spoke out about him," a source was quotedby mirror.co.uk as saying. "It's a ridiculous amount and somemodels flat out refused. He's not considered a great talent -everyone knows his show is just a media frenzy, so some girlswould rather not be associated with him. "The document isridiculous and totally over the top - but that's just Kanye."

MUMBAI, (IANS) Actor Varun Dhawan, known for his vibrant person-ality, believes it took a "mad genius" like Sriram Raghavan to presenthim in an intense role in "Badlapur". That's what every parent wishes... to be known by their children's name."A proud father, Suniel believes Athiya is a natural when it comes to her acting. He is happy that she is "extremely confident, she'slooking good, and that she's acted well. "This is a Salman Khan production and not a Salman Khan starrer. Peopleare expecting Rs.200 crore to Rs.300 crore, but they are just kids. I think they'll manage to earn around Rs.50 crore."His advice to his daughter was "that there would be several critics who have an agenda of saying bad about the kids and the film".He told them: "This criticism would give you fur ther strength to be stronger for the next. Consider this criticism as a lesson and thinkabout how you can work on it and implement the suggestions." Suniel is glad that "that's what Athiya's been doing".

Sports, entertainment closer than 20 years ago: Kapil DevNEW DELHI, (IANS) Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev, who has featured in cameos in Bollywood films and even made an appearancein TV show "Sumit Sambhal Lega", believes that the worlds of spor ts and enter tainment have come closer over the past two decades.Though he retired from cricket in 1994, Kapil has always been associated with the spor t in different ways like a coach or a commen-tator. He has even played cameos in films like "Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii", "Iqbal" and "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi".Asked about the blend between the two industries -- spor ts and enter tainment, he told IANS: "Spor ts is enter tainment, so there is nodifference between spor ts and enter tainment. If people come out and see spor ts, it's total enter tainment. The biggest enter tainment inthis world is spor ts."However, he is happy that the 'players' of both the worlds are coming closer than ever before."If Shah Rukh Khan can come to cricket, then cricketers can also promote films. If I do a cameo in a film, then I'm not becoming anactor, but I'm just trying to promote that situation like SRK does in IPL (Indian Premier League)."It's good to see people from different fields coming out to promote each other. These two industries have come much closer than whatit was 20 years ago," he said. The 56-year-old shot a cameo for Star Plus' TV show "Sumit Sambhal Lega", an Indian adaptation of the popular American sitcom"Everybody Loves Raymond".But what he's not comfor table with is a biopic, telling his life's story.Even while biopics on spor tspersons like Milkha Singh and MC Mary Kom have been appreciated, and more movies like "Azhar" and"M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story" -- on spor tspersons -- are getting made, Kapil said a film on his own life would make him feel"uncomfor table".
