Welcome
Prelude “Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me” J Behnke
+ PREPARATION +
Please Stand
Psalm 27:1-9 P The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my
life; of whom shall I be afraid? C When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble
and fall. P Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident. C One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of
the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.
P For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.
C And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD.
P Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.”
C Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation!

Invocation P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.
LITURGY NOTATIONS
Prelude Music helps draw us into an attitude of prayer and praise. Processional Hymn We are a "singing church," so we follow the advice of the apostle Paul to teach and admonish "one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord" (Colossians 3:16). This hymn may be one of praise, prayer, or reflection on the season of the church year. Invocation From the Latin “to call upon.” The spoken words at the beginning of the service remind us of our Baptism
2
Confession of Sins P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. P Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive
the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen.
Absolution P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all
your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C Amen.
Kyrie
Hymn of Praise “Gloria in Excelsis” LSB page 204
LITURGY NOTATIONS
Confession We examine ourselves and publicly confess our sins. Such a confession at the beginning of the service provides a climate of acceptance. In spite of our sins, we are accepted by God, and in turn we can accept each other. *I John 1:8-10 [Rom. 7:14-8:4] Absolution Christ said to his disciples, "If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven"*. The pastor speaks for God and announces God's cleansing forgiveness to those who made confession. *John 20:23.

+ WORD +
Prayer of the Day P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Let us pray. C Lord God, heavenly Father, since we cannot stand before You relying on anything we have
done, help us trust in Your abiding grace and live according to Your Word; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Old Testament Reading Isaiah 55:1-5 “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the LORD your God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.”
L This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God!
Epistle Reading Philippians 1:12-14, 19-30 I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, so that in me you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again. Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God. For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake, engaged in the same conflict that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.
L This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God!

Prayer of the Day The main thoughts of the day are collected, or summarized in this short prayer. The collects for the season of the church year have come to us from the rich treasury of the church's heritage.

Alleluia Verse
Gospel Reading Matthew 20:1-16
P The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the 20th chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord.
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’ And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’ And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’ So the last will be first, and the first last.”
P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ.
LITURGY NOTATIONS
Alleluia and Verse From John 20:31, reminding us that the heart of the Gospel message is the Word being proclaimed so that the world might believe Jesus is the Christ.

Verse 1 Hark! the voice of Jesus crying, "Who will go and work today? Fields are white and harvests waiting, Who will bear the sheave away?" Loud and long the Master calleth, Rich reward He offers thee; Who will answer, gladly saying, "Here am I, send me, send me"?

Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life T everlasting. Amen.

Preface P The Lord be with you. C And also with you.
P Lift up your hearts. C We lift them to the Lord.
P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, for the countless blessings You so freely bestow on us and all creation. Above all, we give thanks for Your boundless love shown to us when You sent Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into our flesh and laid on Him our sin, giving Him into death that we might not die eternally. Because He is now risen from the dead and lives and reigns to all eternity, all who believe in Him will overcome sin and death and will rise again to new life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Prayer of the Church Since God’s people are called to ‘pray without ceasing’ (1 Thess. 5:17), we take this time to collect all our prayers to pray with one heart and mind as the people of God. Offering Our words reflect the words God spoke to Abraham, “I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2) Preface Preface means "introduction." The pastor and people get ready to celebrate the Holy Meal by greeting each other and with an exhortation as how to celebrate the meal. * Cf. "Salutation"; Lam. 3:41; Ps. 86.4.

Sanctus
Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9–13)
P Lord, remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray: C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Communion Confession P The Lord’s Supper is God’s gift for Christians who are properly instructed. (1 Cor. 10:17; Act
2:42) In communing, we want people to receive Christ’s body and blood for their good. (1 Cor. 11:23-32) This means that as you come to the Lord’s Table you affirm with each communicant that Jesus is your Savior and Lord; and with Lutheran Christians you confess:
C I recognize and confess that I am a sinner. I repent of my sin and ask God’s forgiveness. C I believe that Jesus Christ is my only Lord and Savior from sin, Satan and death. C I believe that the risen Christ is really present in the Sacrament and, under the form of the
bread and wine, I receive His true body and blood for the forgiveness of my sin and the strengthening of my faith and life. (Augsburg Confession – Article X)
Words of Our Lord (Matthew 26:26–28; Mark 14:22–24; Luke 22:19–20; 1 Corinthians 11:23–25)
Agnus Dei
LITURGY NOTATIONS
Sanctus Sanctus is a Latin word meaning "Holy." The Sanctus contains words from Isaiah's vision of God (Isaiah 6:3) and the crowd's response on Palm Sunday when Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem (Matthew 21:9). We join them in spirit by singing their words as we anticipate Christ’s coming in the sacrament. * Is. 6:3; Matt. 21:9 (Mk 11:9); Ps. 118:25-26.
Lord’s Prayer We pray to God as our Father using the prayer of the family of God* because the Lord's Supper is our family meal. * Matt. 6:9ff; Luke 11:2ff Words of Our Lord The pastor speaks the words which Jesus spoke when He instituted the Supper with His disciples in the Upper Room. With these words the bread and wine are consecrated, that is, set apart for God's use in the special meal. * 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Matthew 26:26-28; Mark 14:22-24; Luke 22:19-20. Agnus Dei Agnus Dei is a Latin phrase meaning "Lamb of God." John the Baptist spoke these words as he pointed to Jesus coming toward him (John 1:29). As Christ comes to us in the Holy Supper, we recognize him as the Lamb of God sacrificed for us to free us from the bondage of sin and death. * John 1:29; Is. 53:7.

LITURGY NOTATIONS
Prayer of Thanks Once again, we express our appreciation to our gracious God for giving us this Holy Meal through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. * Pss. 107: Benediction The blessing spoken by the pastor is the Aaronic benediction, the blessing God first gave to Aaron and the other priests to speak to the people of Israel. Jesus Christ, our High Priest, has come to us in a special way through this Holy Meal. The blessing is God's promise that Christ will go with us as we leave the church and return to the world to serve Him. We say "Amen" to affirm the blessing; "So be it -- it is true!" * Numbers 6:23-27.

Journey of DiscipleshipDon’t think of this as your Spiritual GPA, think of it as your Spiritual GPS. You are not being graded by God. And you are on a journey of faith. It only makes sense to check in, at least occasionally, to see where you have been and where you are going.
If your compasses show positive movement forward, don’t get complacent or proud. Remember it’s about what Jesus is doing in your life. Give Him the glory!
If your compasses show you’re kind of stuck or moving in the wrong direction, don’t despair. Remember it’s about what Jesus is doing in your life. Keep your eyes on His promises and see what He is going to do next!
This is just the next small step on a life-long journey of discipleship, a journey we’re on together!
Review your GPS results with someone who can point you back to Jesus and His love for you. In that discipling relationship, ask:
What’s Jesus speaking into my life?
What response is Jesus shaping in me?
What promise from Jesus am I holding onto?
