The students of SAE VIIT collegiate club participated in the BAJA SAEINDIA 2016 held at NATRAX,
Pithampur. The event demands the designing and fabrication of an ATV which can endure for 4 hours
without any problems. Mechanical Engineering participated for the event. A total of 410 participated in
the event out of which only 110 teams were allowed to fabricate the vehicle. These teams were filtered
based on their design submitted at the Virtual round. Team VR-25 secured 52nd
rank in the Virtual Round.
After fabricating the vehicle the team managed to clear all the events and tests in the competition in only
our second attempt at the competition. We secured an overall rank of 47th in the event.
The team involved 8 members designed and built this vehicle:

The Judging for the event takes place in different stages:
Stage 1: Technical Inspection
The teams are judged on the basis of basis of the rule book presented for the event. Compliance to the
rulebook for various safety and technical aspects is checked and the overall design is evaluated before the
team is allowed to move on to the next stage.
On 17th our team faced the technical inspection and team of experts suggested some modification in the
vehicle. We modified accordingly then we cleared the technical inspection in the first attempt and we
moved to the next stage of the competition.
Stage 2:
Skid pad
This involves completing the figure of 8 without the car touching the lines marked. It demonstrates the
maneuverability and turning radius of the vehicle which is essential in the dynamic events.
We have cleared this stage in single attempt.
Stage 3: Brake Test
The vehicle is then run at a speed of 40 kmph and then asked to brake where all the brakes should lock
and the vehicle should stand straight.

scored according to the time acquired. The event is for 75 points.
Our vehicle time recorded in first attempt was 7.75 sec
Second Attempt 6.25 sec
Stage 5: Hill climb
This demonstrates the traction and ability of the vehicle to climb a slope with a 30 degree gradient. The
team is again scored for this event based on the time taken to complete the task. We scored 71.6/75 which
