Business Improvement Techniques Level 2Course Code: C2264

Appropriate for you if you are working in the manufacturing sector, across a broad range of areas.

There are two pathways. Process improvement and quality improvement. The units cover areas such as safety and team working, application of workplace organisation techniques, carrying out lead time analysis, carrying out set up reduction techniques and carrying out mistake/error proofing.

Information Advice and Guidance Skills Level 3Course Code: C2752

IAG skills cover the full one to one interview process from developing the relationship with a client to completing an action plan.

The course covers four units. How to establish communication skills, • how to support the client to make use of

the service • how to develop and sustain the interaction • how to complete an action plan with the client.

Positive Customer Service Practice Level 3Course Code: C2300

This training is ideal for you if you want to enhance your career prospects in a Customer Service field. It covers how you communicate in the customer service field to how you deal with problems and queries.

You will learn how to utilise good customer service practice learning the theoretical perspective as well as how to apply this in practice.

Health and Social Care Diploma level 2Course Code: C1448

The qualification recognises the skills and competencies required in the workplace. The course includes three pathways: General, Dementia Care and Learning Disabilities.

The course has three components: mandatory, specialist knowledge, and optional competency units which must total a minimum of 46 credits. You will be assessed in your workplace against specific criteria to meet the standards of the programme, using a variety of assessment methods.

Health and Social Care Diploma level 3Course Code: C1426

The qualification recognises the skills and competencies carried out in the workplace. Suitable for most types of organisations within the health and social care sector.

You will need to complete nine mandatory units and a variety optional suitable to your job role, which will total 56 credits.

You will be assessed in the workplace using a variety of assessment methods, including observation, witness testimony, reflective accounts and professional discussion.

Pharmacy Technician Introduction Level 3Course Code: C2271

This is ideal for you if you want to enhance your career prospects in Pharmacy. You will complete a wide range of Pharmacy topics:

• professional development in pharmacy • communicating in pharmacy • pharmacy law, ethics and practice • selling over the counter medicines.

Engineering Level 2 or Level 3Course Code: C2909

This training is ideal if you want to enhance your career prospects in Engineering. The training can either be work-based NVQ or College based VRQ.

You can study a number of units of a level 2 or 3 qualification in Engineering. You can mix and match the units so that they meet a total of approximately 40 to 60 Credit values. We offer a wide range of units in Mechanical, Electrical, Machining, Pneumatics and Fabrication and Welding. The units can be put together to form a bespoke package tailored to meet yours and your employers needs.

Once you have completed this training then further non funded training is available so that Full level 2 or 3 Qualification can be gained.

Motor Vehicle Body Paint and MET Level 3Course Code: C2910

This training is idealif you who would like to enhance your career prospects in Engineering. The training will consist of work-based NVQ units at Level 3.

You can study a number of units of a level 3 NVQ qualification in either Motor vehicle Body, Paint and MET. You can mix and match the units so that they meet a total of approximately 40 to 60 Credit values. The units can be put together to form a bespoke package tailored to meet the learner and employers need.

Once you have completed this training, progression routres exist to further non funded training so that a full level 3 Qualification can be gained.

Cleaning Supervision Certificate Level 2Course Code: C1203

The course aims to develop your skills and knowledge and progression within the cleaning industry.

A wide range of units related to the cleaning industry can be covered. Units are agreed between you, your employer and the College’s assessor to meet your current job role. Health and Safety is also covered.

Food Manufacturing Certificate Level 2Course Code: C1165

This qualification has several pathways which cover all the processes of food manufacture. The pathways are flexible, to support you if you are working in large food automated establishments.• production control units: aimed at you if you

are working on automated and non automated processes.

• food sales and service: aimed at you if you work at front/back of house food outlets.

• support units: aimed at you if you within a support description such as quality assurance.

• common operation units: aimed at you if you do routine job roles such as making sandwiches.

• bakery operation units: aimed at you if you work within automated and craft bakeries.

The course is designed to give you a basic knowledge of the various roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader. The course will cover: • understanding the role and responsibilities of the

This course is ideal if you want to develop your abilities in managing or leading teams but have no formal training. From leadership and management you will learn how to manage your own development, deal with health and safety, set objectives for your team and improve the customer experience.

Mentoring NCFE Award Level 2Course Code: C0720

This qualification will help you to gain an insight into the role and practice of mentorship, be clear about mentor/mentee relationships and develop specific skills and understanding in order to be a mentor.

Assessing Vocationally Related Competence Award Level 3Course Code: C0716

This is for practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment using a variety of assessment methods, which must include observation, examination of work products and questioning learners.

The practical unit is based on experiential learning and involves building a portfolio of evidence from assessment activities carried out with learners.

Competence in the Work Environment Award Level 3Course Code: C0715

This is a knowledge-only award for those starting their journey as an Assessor, or for those who need to know about assessment practice but who are not currently practicing in a work environment.

The course consists of four two–hour workshops which will cover the principles and practices of assessment in both the workplace and learning environments. You will explore competence-based assessment techniques as well as those used in vocationally-related taught programmes.

Education and Training Award Level 3Course Code: C0706

The course provides an introduction into teaching in the lifelong learning sector and is experiential in approach, integrating theory with practice. There are two parts to the course, one theoretical and one practical.

The evidence for this course will be collected via video recordings of discussions in class as well as written tasks and assignments. You will also be required to keep a reflective journal and plan, present and evaluate a micro-teach session.

Principles and Practice of Assessment Award Level 3Course Code: C0714

This is a knowledge-only Award for those of you who are starting your journey as an Assessor, or for those of you who need to know about assessment practice but who are not currently practicing eg a starting point for aspiring Assessors or a professional development qualification for managers, HR or Quality Assurance personnel.

Internal Quality Assurance Assessment Award Level 4Course Code: C0726

This course will cover internal quality assurance of the assessment process from within a centre or organisation, by sample planning, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors.

This includes both the verification of competence-based qualifications and moderation of taught programmes in a learning environment.

Understanding the IQA Award Level 4Course Code: C0717

This is a knowledge-only award for those of you who are starting your journey as an internal quality assurance practitioner or for those of you who need to know about internal quality assurance but who are not carrying out quality assurance themselves.

The course will cover: • context and principles of internal quality assurance• how to plan internal quality assurance• techniques and criteria for monitoring the quality

of assessment• how to maintain and improve the quality of

assessment• how to manage information relevant to quality

An apprenticeship with Leicester College offers a nationally-recognised training scheme, which benefits both you and your employer. They have been developed by employers and tailored to meet the needs of specific industries.

An apprenticeship or an advanced apprenticeship enables you to work towards achieving qualifications in a chosen specialism relevant to your job. At the same time, you gain skills and knowledge which will increase productivity and effectiveness in the workplace.

Other benefits include:• increased skill levels • enhanced morale• increased ability to respond to customer needs• reduction in the likelihood of accidents or waste• structured training relevant to your job

Ongoing support is provided by both tutors and assessors both in the College and in the workplace.Leicester College ensures that, alongside the standard training, improvement of Functional Skills, including English, maths and ICT, are included for free within the apprenticeship programme.

If you are under 19 you may be eligible for fully-funded training through the Skills Funding Agency. For over 19s, your employer may need to make a small contribution to the cost of workplace visits, training and assessment, support, study packs, registration and certification.

What do the different levels mean?There are three levels of apprenticeship:

• Intermediate Level Apprenticeships are equivalent to GCSE level (Level 2).

• Advanced Level Apprenticeships are equivalent to A level (Level 3).

• Higher Level Apprenticeships are equivalent to Higher National Certificate and diploma levels (Levels 4 and 5).

Apprenticeship GrantsNew apprenticeship grants of £1,500 have been provided to encourage employers to recruit 16 to 24 year olds to new apprenticeship positions.

Which employers can benefit from these Age Grants?These grants are available to businesses with up to 1,000 employees as long as they have not employed an apprentice in the last 12 months.

When will these Age Grants be available?The revised AGE 16 to 24 Grant is available now until December 2014 for employers who are able to offer a job opportunity to a young person.

Leicester City Council has also introduced a further LAG grant (Leicestershire Apprenticeship Grant) of up to £1,500 to support employers recruiting employers who live within Leicester City

Please encourage your employer not to miss these opportunities as there are only limited grants available.

How will employers receive the grant?Employers will receive the grant in one payment of £1,500 once a qualifying apprentice has completed 13 weeks “in-learning” on their Apprenticeship programme. Your employer can claim grants for up to ten new apprentices.

The payments will be administered by the National Apprenticeship Service through their approved training provider network (ie Leicester College) who will manage the payments and paperwork.

To apply for an age grant is simple and straight forward. Your employer needs to call Leicester College on 0116 224 2240 or email us on [email protected] and we will arrange for one of our Training Consultants to visit you.
