Comments from Deacon Dale Brown Mass Intentions For The Week

The wait is almost over. Maybe your Advent has flown by, and you can’t believe that Christmas is already just around the corner. You’re asking yourself, where did Advent go? Or maybe Advent has been very fruitful for you this year. Either way, today is a moment to recommit. The Church gives us this 4th Sunday of Advent as a last reminder that Christ is coming. There’s a sense of anticipation, someone is coming. And He is The Prince of Peace. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of peace in the world. Terrorist attacks abound. We have shootings in our own country. Evil and injustice can appear overwhelming. Is peace possible? On our own, no it’s not. The English philosopher Thomas Hobbes said that human life is nasty, brutish, and short. And if we look at life without Christ, Hobbes is right. But in the first reading today, Micah tells us something more. The first reading ends with these powerful words: “He shall be peace.” Who’s he talking about? Jesus Christ. Isn’t that interesting? It doesn’t say that the Savior will bring peace, but that He is peace. Why is He peace? Because peace means wholeness. If we are not OK with God, then we can’t be at peace with ourselves or with others. Blessed Teresa of Calcutta used to say: “I’m not ok, and you’re not ok, and that’s why Jesus came.” But in Jesus, in the sacraments that make him present here today, we come to be at peace with God. In the sacrament of Reconciliation, our sins are forgiven and we’re at peace with God. In the Eucharist, we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ and we’re united to God. And that experience brings an awareness of the great story into which all our individual stories fit. We start to see others with the eyes of Christ. So Christ Himself is Peace.

Prayers requested for . . . . Adams, Grant Bargiachi, Charlie Beare Family Bell, Carmen Brown, Dcn. "The Advent of our God our prayers must now employ, and we must meet him

on his road with hymns of holy joy"

The adult choir is in its late stages of preparation for the celebration of Christ's birth in 2 days! Come and help us

celebrate at the beautiful Midnight Mass liturgy on Christmas Eve. Music prelude begins at 10:30 p.m.

followed by a beautiful Candlelight procession and mass .

The choir is looking for some new voices to join us in 2019. This could just be the perfect time for you

to answer God's call to praise Him in song! If interested please talk to any choir member or musician. Merry

Christmas from our musical family to yours!

The Called & Gifted Workshop is happening at our parish on

Friday & Saturday, January 25 & 26, 2019.

This workshop helps people to recognize and cultivate the spiritual gifts that God has given to them at Baptism. The workshop provides

practical tools that equip the average Catholic to live out his/her vocation in the world.

Our parish is incredibly blessed that we have a team of train facilitators right here in

Jackson! Don’t miss this opportunity!

$25/participant to cover cost of materials. More info available at www.siena.org/

called-gifted/. Call 731.668.2596 or email [email protected] to register.

IRA Contribution Possibilities Individuals age 70 ½ and over may make a donation direct from their Traditional IRA direct to St. Mary’s without that money being included in their adjusted gross income. While this can be a benefit to all taxpayers, the direct donation can be especially useful for those that don’t itemize deductions, and for those that are forced to take a Required Minimum Distribution. In order for you to get this tax break, the check must go directly from your IRA trustee to the church.

Contact Calli at the Parish Office or your tax advisor for more information.

A holiday donation can make a world

of difference!

With the end of the year quickly approaching, gifts of securities to the church may be an attractive giving method. If you own securities that are worth more than you paid for them, you may receive an income tax deduction for the full current market value of the stocks donated. In addition, you may bypass capital gains taxes that would otherwise be due. It is simple to make a transfer and we can easily provide you electronic transfer account information. The church encourages donors to consult with their tax advisor when considering these types of gifts.

Due to the Holidays no offertory totals were included. Offertory

numbers will resume in the bulletin January 13th.
