Dear Patriot,

The Hubbard-Baro Memorial Golf Tournament is a day of honor to show our gratitude for the sacrifices made for us to enjoy the lives we live. In recognition of a few particular boys who hold a special place in our hearts, we ultimately appreciate the efforts of the many for their commitment to Our Country and for Our People.

As our troops return home, many struggle with injuries and health conditions that make the challenges of life even more demanding. Your contribution helps with the rehabilitation needs of many, assisting in the inexperienced battles with both physical and emotional disabilities. We do our part to help get these men and women the treatment and care they deserve, with hopes they too can live the American Dream.

Thanks to your generosity, we have continued to make respectable donations to the local VA Administration each and every year on behalf of Hubbard-Baro Memorial. 16th Annual Hubbard-Baro Memorial Golf Tournament

Dear Friends:

The organizers of the Hubbard-Baro Memorial Golf Tournament invite you to participate in our 16th Annual Tournament. This year’s event will be held at Fort Washington Country Club on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Since our inception we have raised over $435,000 with the help of our sponsors like you, to support our local VA Hospital. Our day of golf and celebration is to show our sincere appreciation for the commitment and sacrifices made by our service men and women, and to further honor and remember the lives of some special young men. Whether you participate as a golfer, a sponsor, or both, we are extremely grateful for any contribution to this truly worthy cause. All proceeds will again be donated to the VA Hospital to support their rehabilitation of the many valley soldiers who come back wounded.

History:

Our tournament originally began in 2005 with a very small field of close friends, in commemoration of Corporal Jeremiah Baro and Lance Corporal Jared Hubbard who were killed in action in 2004. However, the brothers of Jared Hubbard immediately joined the Army to honor their brother. The youngest of the boys, Nathan Hubbard, was killed in action in 2007 leaving the oldest brother Jason no choice but to return home. In consideration of family and sacrifice, the Hubbard Act was passed in July of 2008; allowing the sole survivor of families to take Honorably Discharge and return home with full benefits. The battle only begins here for our community as we lost numerous others from our high school alone, not to mention others from around our town. Each and every American city bears its own grief from the loss of those who protect our country. The numbers of those killed in action or seriously injured on the battle field continue to rise. We would be honored if you or someone you know would like to make a contribution “In Their Honor”. We welcome donations of all size.

THE HUBBARD ACT

To ensure the fair treatment of a member of the Armed Forces who is discharged from the Armed Forces, at the request of the member, pursuant to the Department of Defense policy permitting the early discharge of a member who is the only surviving child in a family in which the father or mother, or one or more siblings, served in the Armed Forces and, because of hazards incident to such service, was killed, died as a result of wounds, accident, or disease, is in a captured or missing in action status, or is permanently disabled, to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the dollar limitation on contributions to funeral trusts, and for other purposes.

This Bill was unanimously passed in Congress after Army Specialist Jason Hubbard lost his two brothers, Lance Corporal Jared Hubbard and Army Specialist Nathan Hubbard, in Iraq. As the last of three brothers, Jason was discharged from the military under the sole survivor policy. But the army tried to force Jason to repay his enlistment bonus, cut him off of transitional healthcare and denied him access to G.I. educational benefits.

The Hubbard’s fought to protect the rights of brave soldiers and their families after enduring the ultimate sacrifice. The Hubbard-Baro Golf Tournament continues to commend and thank the Hubbard’s and Baro’s for their commitment in supporting America’s soldiers. Additionally, we would like to thank the local community that helps make this event a tremendous success.
