Andre Bearfield - Blue Box group Consuming your Private Cloud as a Service, Not as a Headache Deploying and operating cloud technology is difficult and falls outside the core competencies of most organizations. As a result, many on-premises private cloud installations falter, casting doubt on private cloud as a solution in general. Yet private clouds come with a unique set of benefits that continue to drive widespread interest. There must be a better way. This session will give participants a clear roadmap of private cloud implementation challenges and offer actionable ideas for how to overcome them. They also will learn how private cloud as a service might work in their organization and for their application workloads.

kevin Hazard - SoftLayer, an IBM Company[who Cares?] as a Service In the midst of the widespread popularity and adoption of cloud computing, it seems like everything is being offered “as a Service” these day: Infrastructure? Check. Platform? You bet. Software? Absolutely. Toaster? It’s only a matter of time. With service providers positioning vastly differing offerings under a generic “cloud” umbrella, it’s all-too-easy to get confused about what’s actually being offered. In this session, we’ll break down the most commonly used industry buzzwords and discuss what each “aaS” is good for. No BS(aas).

Denny Heaberlin - windstream Hosted SolutionsThe Secure Path to Value in the Cloud Even as cloud and managed services grow increasingly central to business strategy and performance, challenges remain. The biggest stick-ing point for companies seeking to capitalize on the cloud is data security. Keeping data safe is an issue in any computing environment, and it has been a focus since the earliest days of the cloud revolution. Understandably so: a lot can go wrong when you allow valuable information to live outside the firewall. Recent revelations about government snooping, along with a steady stream of well-publicized data breaches, only add to the uncertainty. Managing these concerns, along with related questions around choosing the right cloud vendor, is an essential part of any cloud strategy.

The focus of this talk will be on Apache CouchDB and related open source tools and open standards.

–––– why Developer Experience Matters This talk will explore why developer experience matters, what makes for a great developer experience and the relationship between developer experience and the broader field of user experience. Software developers are gaining more influence over the purchase decisions of technologies with which they must build on and with which they must integrate. For example, the success of Amazon Web Services, Heroku and MongoDB has been driven primarily by individual software developers choosing to use these tools, rather than the by the decisions of managers or business executives.

This talk is intended to foster a dialogue around what makes for a great developer experience. The speaker will outline his views on the three key components of a great developer experience: self service, composability and hackability. The presentation will include an example of how IBM Cloudant identified an area in need of improved developer experience, developed a new feature to improve the developer experience and then contributed this new feature to the open source Apache CouchDB project.

Dan Lynn - CodeFutures CorporationReal-Time Big Data: An Agile Approach The truth is, today’s databases are anything but agile — they are effectively static repositories that are cumbersome to work with, difficult to change, and cannot keep pace with application demands. Performance suffers as a result, and it takes far longer than it should to deliver new features and capabilities needed to make your organization competitive. As your application and business needs change, data repositories and structures get outmoded rapidly, resulting in increased work for application developers and slow performance for end users. Further, as data sizes grow into the “Big Data” realm, this problem is exacerbated and becomes even more difficult to address. A seemingly simple schema change can take hours (or more) to perform, and as requirements evolve, the disconnect between existing data structures and actual needs diverge.

During this session, you will hear from experts on what it really takes to achieve an agile data infrastructure — one that meets your needs today

Lori MacVittie - F5 NetworksLunch Power Panel | Microservices & IoT - Moderated by Jason Bloomberg DevOps Summit Speaker Buzzword alert: Microservices and IoT at a DevOps conference? What could possibly go wrong? Join this panel of experts as they peel away the buzz and discuss the important architectural principles behind implementing IoT solutions for the enterprise. As remote IoT devices and sensors become increasingly intelligent, they become part of our distributed cloud environment, and we must architect and code accord-ingly. At the very least, you’ll have no problem filling in your buzzword bingo cards.

–––– Pushing the Devops Envelope: How Microservices Extend Devops to the Network DevOps tends to focus on the relationship between Dev and Ops, put-ting an emphasis on the ops and application infrastructure. But that’s changing with microservices architectures. This session will focus on how microservices are changing the underlying architectures needed to scale, secure and deliver applications based on highly distributed (micro) services and why that means an expansion into “the network” for DevOps.

Andi Mann - CA TechnologiesHarder, Better, Faster, Stronger: Application Delivery with Enterprise Devops DevOps Summit Speaker Business and IT leaders today need better application delivery capabili-ties to support critical new innovation. But how often do you hear objections to improving application delivery like, “I can harden it against attack, but not on this timeline”; “I can make it better, but it will cost more”; “I can deliver faster, but not with these specs”; or “I can stay strong on cost control, but quality will suffer”? In the new application economy, these tradeoffs are no longer acceptable. Customers will abandon your brand forever for a slow response or a privacy breach; competitors will steal critical markets if you cannot deliver on time and on budget. Join this session to learn how you can leverage new technol-ogy approaches for agile parallel development, continuous delivery, and agile operations so you can (to the tune of Daft Punk), “Work It; Make It; DevOps Makes Us; Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger!”

–––– Power Panel | Balancing the 3 Pillars of DevopsHow to balance the three pillars of DevOps, where to focus attention (and resources), where organizations might slip up with the wrong focus, how to manage change and risk in all three areas, what is possible and what is not, where to start, and especially how new structures, processes, and technologies can help drive a new DevOps culture.

Michael Meiner - oracleMoving Applications from on-Premise to Cloud There are many considerations when moving applications from on-premise to cloud. It is critical to understand the benefits and also chal-lenges of this migration. A successful migration will result in lower Total Cost of Ownership, yet offer the same or higher level of robustness. The range of cloud offerings(IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) will be analyzed, along with the benefits/challenges of migrating to each offering. Enterprise deployment considerations, including High Availability and Security, will be discussed. A demonstration will show migration to Amazon Elastic Cloud (EC2) and Weblogic Java Cloud Service, using applications build using Tomcat and other J2EE vendors.

Shawn Mills - green House DataTaking Back Cloud Control – Reign In Shadow IT by Providing Solutions With SaaS use rampant across organizations, how can IT departments track company data and maintain security? More and more departments are commissioning their own solutions and bypassing IT. A cloud environ-ment is amorphous and powerful, allowing you to set up solutions for all of your user needs: document sharing & collaboration, mobile access, e-mail, even industry-specific applications

Learn how to get users to stay in compliance with corporate guidelines and actually use the tools provided them rather than turning to outside, unsanctioned resources and potentially putting security at risk.

Jason Mondanaro - Metangagrowing IoT from Industry to Society It is one thing to build single industrial IoT applications, but what will it take to build the Smart Cities and truly society changing applications of the future? The technology won’t be the problem, it will be the number of parties that need to work together and be aligned in their motivation to succeed. How can you plan to cooperate, partner, and form lasting all-star teams to change the world? It starts with business models and monetization strategies.

Andrew Morawski - VodafoneThe Transformative Power of M2M and IoT in Health Care Health care systems across the globe are under enormous strain, as facilities reach capacity and costs continue to rise. M2M and the Internet of Things have the potential to transform the industry through connected health solutions that can make care more efficient while reducing costs. In fact, Vodafone’s annual M2M Barometer Report forecasts M2M applica-tions rising to 57 percent in health care and life sciences by 2016. Lively is one of Vodafone’s health care partners, whose solutions enable older adults to live independent lives while staying connected to loved ones. M2M will continue to grow and impact the health care space as patient facing and provider solutions take over.

Imad Mouline - EverbridgeCritical Communications for IoT: Connecting Devices, Things and People What if, during a snow emergency, an on-the-ground sensor could automati-cally trigger a relevant emergency notification related to snowfall and road impact. And then, after it’s triggered, that notification is delivered intelligently to individuals based on an extensive set of rules designed to alert the most avail-able and capable responders. The “what if” question about “smart highways” is short-sighted. We are already there, and we are only getting started. While mainstream attention is paid to machine-to-machine communications, new technologies are developing to make these communications even more actionable during critical situations (call it “machine-to-machine-to human”). Now, and in the future, devices, people and things will be connected to trigger critical communications in a smart and automated fashion to ensure that the right messages get sent to the right people, based on their location, skill sets or simply, their ability to respond—at the right time.

Stefana Muller - CA Technologieswomen in Devops DevOps Summit Speaker It’s been proven time and time again that in tech, diversity drives greater innovation, better team productivity and greater profits and market share.

So what can we do in our DevOps teams to embrace diversity and help transform the culture of development and operations into a true “DevOps” team? This talk will answer that question citing examples, showing how to create opportunities for diverse candidates and taking feedback from the audience on their experiences with encouraging diversity in technology roles.

Miriam Newton - AdobeToday’s Mobile workforce & the Cloud Businesses are looking to empower employees and departments to do more, go faster, and streamline their processes. Brendan o’Brien - Aria SystemsPower Panel | The Internet of Things:A New Age The Internet of Things is not only adding billions of sensors and billions of terabytes to the Internet. It is also forcing a fundamental change in the way we envision Information Technology. For the first time, more data is being created by devices at the edge of the Internet rather than from centralized systems. What does this mean for today’s IT professional? This panel addresses this very serious issue of profound change in the industry.

–––– The Monetization of Things The IoT market is projected to be $1.9 trillion tidal wave that’s bigger than the combined market for smartphones, tablets and PCs. While IoT is widely discussed, what isn’t being talked about are the monetization op-portunities that are created from ubiquitous connectivity and the ensuing avalanche of data. While we cannot foresee every service that the IoT will enable, we should future proof operations by preparing to monetize them with extremely agile systems. The session will discuss how to:• Handle a variety of monetization models and pivot without coding• Respond to a “bottom up,” user-driven version of capitalism• Analyze consumption data to quickly create targeted offerings

–––– Enabling Complex Recurring Revenue Strategies With IoT exploding, massive data will transform businesses with oppor-tunities to monetize almost anything that can be measured. Aria Systems Co-founder and Chief Evangelist, Brendan O’Brien, leads an expert panel of consultants, thought leaders and practitioners who will look at these new monetization trends, discuss the implications, and detail lessons learned from their collective experience. Finally, the panel will point the way forward for enterprises who wish to leverage the resulting complex recurring revenue models, adding value and profit.

James o’Neill - Ernst & youngThe Emerging Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data Technologies and Their Impact on the U.S. Insurance Industry The explosion of connected devices / sensors is creating an ever-expanding set of new and valuable data. In parallel the emerging capability of Big Data technologies to store, access, analyze, and react to this data is producing changes in business models under the umbrella of the Internet of Things (IoT). In particular within the Insurance industry, IoT appears positioned to enable deep changes by altering relationships between insurers, distributors, and the insured.

The IoT has the potential to shrink the distance between the insurer and insured by providing increased knowledge of the behavior of customers, prospects and distributors in the context of their surrounding environ-ment. Usage Based Insurance (UBI) within auto insurance has been an early testing ground. Streaming vehicle data has enabled participating insurers to improve their understanding of driving behaviors and to adapt the pricing and management of these risks. Given the promise of the early findings, auto insurers are increasingly offering sensors that monitor individual driver behavior while asking consumers to trade privacy regarding their driving behaviors and locations for lower prices.

Speakers & SessionsMicroservice architectures are therefore becoming more popular, and are increasingly seen as an interesting option even for smaller projects, instead of being reserved to the largest, most complex application stacks.

But those architectures bring a new set of challenges. Breaking down an application into many smaller components means that each individual piece is simpler and easier to reason with; but now we need something to tie all those pieces together. Orchestration becomes an essential tool.

After explaining the connection between Docker and microservice architectures, we will discuss container orchestration, what it means exactly, and the various solutions existing today to implement it. We will do a deep dive into the “Docker native” tools like Docker Machine, Swarm, and Compose; but we will also cover other generic solutions like Mesos.

Michael Piccininni - EMC Corporationgeneral Session | Next generation Cloud Services: EMC-windstream Partnering to Drive Cloud Solutions Review of Next Generation Cloud services, including Windstream-EMC Tier Storage solutions, to increase efficiencies, improve service delivery and enhance corporate cloud solution development.

Chuck Piluso - Secure Infrastructure & Services The Benefits of IBM Power in the Cloud A study of cloud adoption trends and the power and flexibility of IBM Power and Pureflex cloud solutions.

Ray Potter - SafeLogic Is your Data Encryption kosher?Cryptography has become one of the most underappreciated, misunderstood components of technology. It’s too easy for salespeople to dismiss concerns with three letters that nobody wants to question. ‘Yes, of course, we use AES.’ But what exactly are you trusting to be the ultimate guardian of your data? Let’s face it – you probably don’t know. An organic, grassfed Kobe steak is a far cry from a Big Mac, but they’re both beef, right? Not exactly. Crypto is the same way. The US govern-ment requires all federally deployed technology to meet minimum standards. For encryption, if it hasn’t been certified to meet the FIPS 140-2 benchmark, it is considered the equivalent of exposing your data in plain text. That’s how crucial it is.• Advantages of using a validated cryptographic module• How a module becomes validated and pitfalls in the process• Differences between compliant and validated solutions• Questions that end users should ask of vendors who use encryption• Dangers for vendors not using a validated solution

So the next time it comes up, you’ll know all the right questions to ask your butcher.

Sushil Prabhu - openCrowdA Platform to Build Search-Enabled Applications Search-Enabled Applications are a new breed of applications that utilize a search index as their backbone for data retrieval. Dr. Natasha Tamaskar - gENBANDone Size Does Not Fit All While not quite mainstream yet, WebRTC is starting to gain ground with Carriers, Enterprises and Independent Software Vendors (ISV’s) alike. WebRTC makes it easy for developers to add audio and video communications into their applications by using Web browsers as their platform. But like any market, every customer engagement has unique requirements, as well as constraints. And of course, one size does not fit all.

In this talk, we explore what is needed to take a real time communica-tions engagement experience from a simple communication, to a truly immersive multi layer engagement experience. Furthermore, we will explore the role of a Communications Platform as a Service (PaaS) in delivering this experience.

Mark Thiele - SUPERNAP InternationalDevops – The Symptom of an Agile organizationDevOps Summit Speaker DevOps is all the rage these days and with good reason as it promises to reduce the to market for new applications. It also promises to im-prove change management, allowing teams to deploy changes to their applications quickly and efficiently. However, DevOps isn’t something you buy, install, or implement, rather it is the symptom of an appropriate organizational system. How do we get to the right organizational model that will allow DevOps practices to flourish?

william Toll - ProfitBrickswhy 85% of workloads Are Not on The Public Cloud and why They All will Be In The Cloud By 2020. Public Cloud IaaS started it’s life in the developer and startup communities and has grown rapidly to a $20B+ industry, but it still pales in comparison to how much is spent worldwide on IT: $3.6 trillion. In fact, there are 8.6 million data centers worldwide, the reality is many small and medium sized business have server closets and colocation footprints filled with servers and storage gear. While on-premise environment virtualization may have peaked at 75%, the Public Cloud has lagged in adoption as teams delay their cloud migrations or seek alternatives like the public cloud or await SaaS alternatives for their essential apps. Today’s mass market for cloud computing IaaS is made up of non-cloud natives and the industry needs to respond to grow. In his talk, William Toll will break down the reasons for the delays and how existing IT teams can accelerate their plans to migrate to the public cloud – without expensive consultants or big cloud migration projects.

Private PaaS can enable organizations to use this technology on their own infrastructure, and introduce efficient development workflows for deploying applications.

Participants will have the opportunity to assist in the set up of a Cloud Foundry-based PaaS on a public cloud, learn about the management of users and resources on the system, and deploy a number of web applications to the new PaaS.

Paul Turner - CloudianThe Era of Smart Data is Upon Us – How Hybrid Clouds Provide Scalable Storage for the Internet of Things Paul Turner, Cloudian technology evangelist and CMO, will discuss the revolutionary notion that the storage world is transitioning from mere big data to smart data. Analytics is the foundation of smart data and now, with the ability to run Hadoop directly on smart storage systems like Cloudian HyperStore, enterprises will gain huge business advantages in terms of scalability, efficiency and cost savings as they move closer to realizing the potential of the Internet of Things. Mr. Turner will argue that today’s hybrid cloud storage solutions, with commodity hardware and in-place analytics capabilities, will help quickly yield high value insights without the high price tag.

Lakmal warusawithana - wSo2 IncDeploy in Scale with Docker, CoreoS, kubernetes and Apache Stratos Integration with the Docker platform, CoreOS Linux distribution, and Kubernetes container management system bring more scalability and flexibility to a Apache Stratos PaaS. This session will include

installing and deploying sample applications using Docker,CoreOS and Kubernetes, and a walkthrough on how it can be extended to sup-port new application containers. It will also include a demonstration of app deployment, provisioning, auto-scaling, and more.

Mike weiner - koREThe New IoT Standard: Any App for Any Device Using Any Data Format For IoT to grow as quickly as analyst firms project, a lot is going to fall on developers to quickly bring applications to market. But the lack of a standard development platform threatens to slow growth and make application development more time consuming and costly, much like we’ve seen in the mobile space. This session will discuss the evolving requirements for developers as IoT matures and conduct a live demonstration of how quickly application development can happen when the need to comply with multiple different standards is removed and developers can create any app for any device using any data format.

Tom wesselman - PlantronicsThe IoT: Possibilities, Challenges, and Real world Questions Sensor-enabled things are becoming more commonplace; precursors to a larger and more complex framework that most consider the ultimate promise of the IoT: things connecting, interacting, sharing, storing, and over time perhaps learning and predicting based on habits, behaviors, location, preferences, purchases and more. The speaker will examine the still nascent IoT as it is coalescing, including what it is today, what it might ultimately be, the role of wearable tech, and technology gaps still in play, as the industry strives to create a cohesive, secure, scal-able, and beneficial network of ‘things’.

Shannon williams - Rancher LabsUsing RancheroS to Run Microservices onDocker at Scale Docker is an excellent platform for organizations interested in running microser-vices. It offers portability and consistency between development and production environments, quick provisioning times, and a simple way to isolate services. This presentation will walk through these and other benefits of using Docker to run microservices, and provide an overview of RancherOS, a minimalist distribu-tion of Linux designed expressly to run Docker. We will also discuss Rancher, an orchestration and service discovery platform designed for running Docker at scale in production on any cloud and computing infrastructure.

We will discuss: • Benefits of using Docker for microservices• RancherOS and why a micro OS for Docker makes sense• Using Docker Compose across development, test and production• Projects, and collaboration on service development• Service discovery and software defined networking• Monitoring hosts, containers and services

Over the course of the presentation, we will demonstrate how to use RancherOS, Docker and Rancher to build out microservices.

Fred yatzeck - robomq.ioIoT middleware For a Faster Time to Market (TTM) Internet of things (IoT) will be a hybrid ecosystem of diverse devices and sensors collaborating with operational and enterprise systems to create the next big application. Choosing the right middleware and integration strategy from the get-go will enable IoT solution developers to adapt and grow with the industry, while at the same time reduce Time to Market (TTM) by using plug and play capabilities offered by a robust IoT middleware platform.
