MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF WCI& THE 9ICI CONFERENCE CHAIR
Dear Colleagues,
It is my pleasure and honor to welcome the isotope community to attend the 9th International Conference on Isotopes (9ici) to be held in Doha, Qatar 12th to 16th November 2017.We expect to have more than 300 scientific and technical presentations and posters on show. Please check the topics, and consider presenting your work. There will also be an accompanying exhibition showcasing organizations engaging in isotope production, measurement, and various applications.
Van Zyl de Villiers, President, WCI
THE PRESIDENTOF WCI
Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 9ICI conference in Doha. This is going to be the first time for the conference to make its way to the Middle East. Doha; the capital of Qatar, is a modern city that has a lot to offer from history, sea and sand to high tech and glorious skyline. The conference will provide a platform for the world’s leaders and best researchers in isotope technology and applications to interact and discuss the latest research in the field.Medical physics, Women in physics and Women in nuclear, will be celebrated at special sessions on the occasion of 150 years on the birth of Marie Curie.Looking forward to welcoming you in Qatar in 2017,
Ilham Al-Qaradawi, General Chair, 9ICI
THE 9ICICONFERENCE CHAIR
The ICI conferences are organized by the World Council on Isotopes (WCI) and a participating organization to highlight the importance of nuclear science, medicine, and isotope technology in advancing human health and protection of the environment. The first ICI conference was in 1995 in Beijing, China and have since been held on nearly every major continent—in Sydney, Australia; Vancouver, Canada; Cape Town, South Africa; Brussels, Belgium; Seoul, Korea; Moscow, Russia, and Chicago, United States. In November 2017, the ICI will be held in Doha, Qatar and is being organized by the Qatar Physics Society. It is the first time the ICI has been held in the Middle East, an area with a rapidly growing nuclear power industry and need for medical and industrial isotopes.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The ICI is a globally recognized conference and one of the few dedicated to fundamental and applied aspects in isotope production, distribu-tion, devices, applications, and measurements. This year the ICI is expanding to address the design, operation, and decommissioning of isotope production facilities and systems. The isotope industry is changing as new technolo-gies and systems are deployed and old facilities need to be remediated or replaced. The ICI provides a unique global forum for the isotope research community and industry to meet and network.
WHY ICI ISIMPORTANT
The isotope community draws upon numerous specialists from around the world—nuclear and medical physicists, radiochemists, radio-ecologists, nuclear engineers, material scientists, physicians, health physicists, non-proliferation experts, and national and international leaders from business, industry and government.

• Isotope Production and Devices• Isotope Research and Applications • Isotopes in the Environment• Security of Supply, Safety, and Transportation• Quality Assurance and Quality Control• Policy, Economics, and Global Impact of Isotope Production and Use• Design, Construction, Operation and Decommissioning of Production Facilities
OPENING PLENARY
Isotope Innovation Through Global Collaboration is the theme for the 9th ICI with a focus on the future of isotope technology. Our plenary speakers come from diverse technical and regional political backgrounds. Intend to stimulate and motivate, the 9th ICI Opening Plenary will welcome delegates and challenge them to seek collaboration and excellence.
MARIE CURIE 150TH BIRTHDAY PLENARY
In the history of science, only one person has ever been awarded two Noble Prizes in separate scientific fields of study. Marie Skłodowska Curie shared a Noble Prize for Physics in 1903 with her husband Pierre Curie and with Henri Becquerel. Later she was the sole recipient of the 1911 Noble Prize for Chemistry. Recognized by many as a founder of the field of radiochemistry, Madame Curie represents more than a brilliant scientist but someone who broke the barriers for women scientists to receive the recognition they deserved. Join us as we celebrate this remarkable scientist and the role of women in nuclear sciences and how they are changing the world.
WORLD COUNCIL ON ISOTOPES (WCI) PRESIDENT’S FORUM:WHICH “S” MATTERS MOST FOR THE ISOTOPE INDUSTRY?
On Wednesday morning, join WCI President Van Zyl de Villiers and incoming WCI President Nigel Stephenson for a special plenary on policies that may affect future supplies of isotopes. World-renowned experts will discuss the relative importance of Security of Supply, commercial Sustainability, environmental Sustainability, Safeguards, radiation Safety and nuclear Security in the entire isotope value chain, from R&D through production and distribution to end-use. Thought provoking and sometimes controversial, the WCI President’s Forum is a great way to spark discussion among participants during the networking opportunities.
ORAL PAPER SESSIONS
Paper Sessions will have two co-chair organizers and either 5 or 7 oral presentations in the session. Each presenter is allowed 20 minutes which includes questions and answers. Presenters should be mindful of time constraints and strive to complete their presentation within 15 minutes to allow for questions. Please see Attachment 1 for abstract submission format and template.
POSTER SESSIONS
Poster Sessions will have two co-chair organizers. Electronic poster boards (E-Posters) will be provided with a 16:9 format in landscape. Specifications and capabilities to incorporated items such as videos will be provided later. Please see Attachment for abstract submission format and template.
