Open Borders Changings, Awakenings: Equal Rights for All Deadline: January 31, 2018 As part of the European Culture Days 2018, the BBK Karlsruhe, District Association of Visual Artists, will be presenting young artistic positions from Karlsruhe’s twin cities in the exhibition Open Borders taking in focus Revolutionary Changes. Generations between 1960 and today have taken to the streets in the fight for freedom and the struggle for equality of race, gender, and sexual orientation. How does today’s generation of young artists look back on the upheavels and awakenings of the last fifty years in their city, their country, and in Europe? On student revolts, Glasnost, Perestroika, the fall of the Berlin Wall? What kind of freedom can they work in today? How do they perceive their freedom and the responsibility for it? What is their perspective on past revolts or recent drawbacks, how do they participate and how do they comment on current events? Young artists who are residents of Karlsruhe or one of its twin cities (Nancy, Nottingham, Halle/Saale, Krasnodar, Timișoara) can apply, either with a concept for ‚Open Borders‘, either with a concept for a new project or with an already existing work. All artistic formats are allowed and experimental, interdisciplinary and live formats are explicitly welcome. The jury consists of members of the BBK, the Municipal Cultural Office, the Municipal Gallery and the Curators. In addition to an exhibition fee, travel and transportation expenses, insurance during the exhibition, accommodation and meals for the stay in Karlsruhe will be covered. The artists receive support in the implementation and installation of their work. The exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual catalogue in German and English. Please submit a visual sketch of the project with short description (up to 1,000 characters) or in the case of an already existing work a photo documentation (max 2 pages), as well as an artistic CV with short portfolio (max 5 pages) of the artist’s previous work as PDF. The application documents should clearly describe the project or work in scope and idea. The file should not exceed 5MB.
