Congratulations on your assignment to Camp Shelby, Mississippi. We would like to provide you with some useful housing information to prepare you and your family for your move. We know that moving can be stressful and want to make your housing experience one you will remember in a positive manner.
MARRIED SOLDIERS OR SOLDIER WITH DEPENDENTS
May Qualify for Government Leased Housing. Government Housing on post is not available at Camp Shelby. This memorandum will provide guidance to assist you in a smooth transition. Housing guidance requires the Housing Office to assist Soldiers in locating off post private rental housing. We provide you the rate of your Basic Allowance Housing for the local area. We then add an additional 20% for out of pocket expenses to your BAH which could be used to pay things like rent, rental insurance, utilities. You are not given an extra 20%. This 20 percent is what the Army states is acceptable for one to expect to pay out of pocket above your BAH rate. We will provide you with the average cost of utilities, subtract it from the BAH plus 20% amount. You should search for a home that does not exceed this amount. You should then begin searching for housing in the local area for private rental. If you are able to find housing for that amount (BAH plus 20% minus the cost of utilities) or less you are required to rent housing off post. (If there is any housing available for this amount or less you are required to rent whatever housing you select.) If for some reason you or the Housing Office cannot locate any housing (houses or apartments) for this rate or less we will submit an application and request government leased Housing for you. Leased Housing is explained in paragraph 3.
The Government Leased Housing Program are homes that the Army Corps of Engineers has leased in the communities surrounding Camp Shelby. As Soldiers arrive they complete the required housing documentation and we insure that you are eligible for Family Housing by following the guidance above. Once we determine we cannot find housing as describe above we submit an application to the Mobile District for approval to offer you a leased home on the program. Once approved you are shown homes, once you select your home we will do a walk through inspection, complete all necessary paperwork. The date you receive your keys to your leased house your BAH is stopped. Your BAH is forfeited. You pay for telephone and cable and any other amenities. If you do not like the homes we have available you are authorized to seek private rental housing. We can assist you with this search as well. (Note: Certain breeds of dogs are not allowed, including but not limitedto Pit Bulls, Rottweiler’s, and Doberman Pinchers, Wolf Hybrids or any canine breed with dominate traits towards aggression) 3

SINGLE SOLDIERS WITHOUT FAMILY MEMBERS OR SOLIDERS THAT DO NOT QUALIFY FOR LEASED HOUSING
If you are not authorized Family Leased Housing we will provide you with several resources. We will help you as much or as little as you desire. We will give you property management listings, websites and current rental listings. We are able to reviewlistings with you and set up appointments for you with property managers.
Please call us 30-60 days prior to your arrival to Camp Shelby, MS. You will need to fill out the DD1746 Housing Application and email it back to us along with a copy of your orders. This will allow us to project and prepare for your arrival. This isespecially important if you require four bedroom or larger homes. There are a limited number of these homes throughout the area and we may need additional time to prepare for your arrival. (Note: Some aggressive breeds of pets and large animals are prohibited with many property managers if you rent on your own)
Keep in mind that there is no perfect formula for qualifying for government leased housing because it is all based on the available rental market when you arrive to Camp Shelby.

Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP)What is the program about?
It's all about helping your family navigate the medical and educational system, so you can have more peace of mind about your family member's care. We assist by:
o Identifying and enrolling family members with special medical or educational needs.o Finding out what services are available at your present or new duty station.o Supporting your family with information, referrals and non-clinical case management to access services.
EMFP offers two important kinds of help
The EFMP helps families in two big ways: by making sure special needs are considered during assignments, and by easing access to assistance wherever you are.
o Assignment coordination: While military mission is always the driving force behind a service member's assignment, the Exceptional Family Member Program helps make sure that family members' documented needs are considered during relocations. This is important because access to appropriate medical and educational services may be limited in overseas and remote locations. With
assignment coordination, you can be more assured that your family member's needs will be considered, so you can focus more clearly on mission-related responsibilities.
o Family support: This part of the program helps families identify and access programs and services. Family support providers can put you on the path to empowerment by: Providing information and referral services for both military and community services Helping you find and navigate programs in new locations. Giving "warm handoffs" to the Exceptional Family Member Program at new locations. Finding ways to bridge gaps in programs, services and supports Informing you about available local school and early intervention services Providing non-clinical case management, including individualized services plans Offering opportunities for families with special needs to connect Helping families understand what is offered, how to determine eligibility and how to apply for benefits and entitlements
How do you get started?
You get started by contacting Ms. Rita Kora at 334-255-7431 or email: [email protected] information on EFMP is available at http://efmp.amedd.army.mil/tools/maps/mississippi.html and includes enrollment and screening information. 17

Family Wellness and ResilienceWelcome to Hattiesburg, MS!Hattiesburg, MS is primarily in Forrest County and extending west into Lamar County. The city population was 45,989 at the 2010 census, with an estimated population of 46,805 in 2015 and is the fourth largest city in the state.
The Pine Belt Region History.• The Pine Belt, also known as the "Piney Woods", is a region in Southeast Mississippi. The region
gets its name from the longleaf pine trees that are abundant in the region. • In the years before Mississippi was discovered by Europeans, Native American tribes populated
the state. Specifically in the Pine Belt region of Mississippi, the Natchez tribe resided. The Natchez provided a formidable challenge for French and Spanish settlers, but their population halved less than 15 years after contact with Europeans. Disease and warfare eventually forced them to settle with the Creek people or English colonists.
• The Mississippi Territory eventually became a U.S. state in 1817, and the Pine Belt became more populated and Mississippi's main economical attribute next to agriculture. After the American Civil War, railroads were extended into the area.
