What every child needs:• Every child deserves to attend a quality local early

childhood centre and school where their ownidentity and community is reflected and valued, where learning is culturally and geographicallyrelevant to them, where their family and whānau arevalued and recognised and they feel they belong.

• Every child deserves to have quality learningopportunities because education is transformative: itempowers the individual but is also a force for thegood of society as a whole.

• Every child deserves quality teaching and supportso that their individual needs are met and theirpotential is realised.

• As educators, we know that every child is unique –they learn at different rates and in different ways, they have different interests and strengths. The jobof our early childhood centres and schools is to helpthem learn to the best of their ability, so that everychild has an education that meets their diverse needsand fulfils their potential.

• New Zealand’s education system is rated in the tophandful in the world but some children are stillmissing out.

• That’s why we need more investment in educationto meet every child’s needs. We are ambitious tomake our great system the best in the world. Weneed more investment in children, more investmentin the partnership between teachers and parents andwhānau, and more investment in people working ineducation.

What do you believe children need? What do youwant for your child?

At a system level what we want for children is aworld class system that:• meets 21st century needs by developing:

knowledge, skills and learning for living

• produces creative, energetic and motivated learnersby broadening opportunity based on literacy andnumeracy
