FLAMES 2016-17 PLAYER BIOSmatchup notesNOTES AND ANECDOTES - LIBERTY VS. CHATTANOOGA

• Liberty and Chatt anooga are squaring off for the fi rst time on Wednesday. The Mocs are one of 10 fi rst-time opponents on the Lady Flames' 2018-19 schedule.

• The Lady Flames and Mocs have been two of the most suc-cessful mid-major teams in the Southeast in recent years. Liberty has made 17 NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 22 years, while Chatt anooga has qualifi ed for 15 NCAA Tournaments in the last 30 seasons. The Lady Flames and Mocs have been a part of the same NCAA Tournament fi eld nine times (most recently 2015) but have never been placed in the same region.

• Liberty has played one previous game at McKenzie Arena, falling 90-48 to LSU in the Sweet 16 round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

• The Mocs are scheduled to play more games (4) in the Com-monwealth of Virginia during November and December than the Lady Flames. Liberty only has three home games scheduled during the season's fi rst two months.

• Liberty and Chatt anooga have both faced Virginia Tech during the early stages of the 2018-19 season. The Hokies topped the Lady Flames 72-61 in Liberty's home opener on Nov. 13. Meanwhile, Chatt anooga fell 74-59 at Virginia Tech on Monday in its most recent outing.

• UTC redshirt junior Arianne Whitaker faced Liberty as a freshman at Winthrop on March 1, 2016, tallying 9 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks in a 59-42 Lady Flames victory.

LIBERTY IN THE VOLUNTEER STATE

• Liberty is playing in the Volunteer State for the second time in its last three road games, after wrapping up the 2017-18 season with a 100-60 NCAA Tournament loss at Tennessee in Knoxville.

• The Lady Flames are scheduled to make three trips to Ten-nessee in 2018-19, including Wednesday's visit to Chatt anoo-ga, a Dec. 4 game at ETSU and a Jan. 29 contest at Lipscomb.

• Head Coach Carey Green hails from Louisville, Tenn., just outside of Knoxville.

• Emily Lytle is a Memphis native, while Ashtyn Baker was named Tennessee Division II-A Miss Basketball in 2016-17.

PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES

• A move from the Big South Conference to the ASUN Confer-ence combined with an ambitious non-conference schedule will lead to a considerable amount of travel this season.

• Including this week's trip, the Lady Flames will have taken six total fl ights through fi ve diff erent airports (Charlott e, Chatt anooga, Daytona Beach, Lynchburg and Philadelphia).

• By the time Liberty gets home from Lehigh Sunday night, the Lady Flames will have spent seven nights in hotels so far this season.

• Beginning with Wednesday, Liberty will play eight of its next nine games away from Lynchburg, as the Lady Flames have only one home contest (James Madison on Nov. 29) sched-uled in a 45-day span.

WANTED FOR THEFT

• Liberty came up with 21 steals during Saturday's 82-53 vic-tory over Saint Francis (Pa.).

• The Lady Flames had not tallied that many steals in a sin-gle game since Feb. 26, 2000, when they also had 21 steals against Radford.

LIBERTY VS. THE SOCON

• Liberty will be facing a Southern Conference (SoCon) oppo-nent for the 38th time in program history. The Lady Flames are 14-23 all-time when facing SoCon opponents, including 5-3 under Carey Green.

• The Lady Flames have not faced a SoCon foe since Nov. 27, 2012, when they notched a 76-56 home victory over UNCG.

• Liberty will now face a trio of SoCon opponents within a 26-day span, including visits to Chatt anooga (Wednesday), ETSU (Dec. 4) and UNCG (Dec. 16).

• Liberty has won back-to-back matchups with SoCon op-ponents and three of its last four SoCon outings. The Lady Flames' four most recent SoCon triumphs have all come at the expense of UNCG.

• Chatt anooga is the only current SoCon women's basketball team that Liberty has never faced on the hardwood.
