A Historic Setting for Your Historic Occasion

The 1897 Poe House was home to the E. A. Poe family from 1897 until 1988. He is not the famous Edgar Allan Poe, our Mr. Poe was a brick maker and businessman. He lived here with his wife, Josephine, and their eight children. The house was pur-chased by the State of North Carolina from Miss Elizabeth “Lillie” Winslow Poe, daughter of E.A. and Josephine Poe, in 1987. It was restored to its 1897 appearance and opened to the public in 1998 as a historic house museum. Tours of the house are offered Tues-Fri at 11:00, 1:00, & 3:00; Saturday on the hour from 10:00-4:00; and Sunday on the hour from 1:00-4:00. Admis-sion is free.

Hundred year old magnoli-as, camellias, heritage roses, and seasonal blooms add to the romance of the Poe House back courtyard.
