MISSION!Right to Inclusivity

To provide the non-voting under eighteen population of India a platform to voice their opinions, so that their ideas

and concerns are heard, considered, and eventually implemented.

VISION

18minus dreams of a world that is democratic in the truest sense - one in which children have platform and the power to make

decisions on issues which affect them.

WHO WE ARE 18minus comprises the non-voting population of the world’s largest democracy. We are the motherland’s children and we feel that there is no minimum age before which we can start fulfilling our duties towards the nation. !

18minus refers to and represents each and every Indian citizen under the age of eighteen, and by definition, that

makes us the largest neo-political organisation in the world, as over 44% of India’s population are legal minors. !

Criterion #1!MEASURABLE AND PROVEN IMPACT !

18minus, as a youth organisation recognises that in order to make change, in order to empower- the necessity of a measurable impact is imperative.

Project #18minusTalks EXECUTION!18minus Talks is a project to encourage the youth to pursue insightful discussion. The debates we organised garnered a lot of response - both online and offline. Children not only actively partook in various discussion, but also came to a consensus and proposed valuable suggestions to the problems at hand. !18minus was also a youth partner to various debates and discussions across the city, including The Bait 2014 - a nationwide debate organised by the The National Debate Club, Chennai.!!IMPACT!✓The immediate impact was that children started making

calculated and well-informed decisions on our social forums.!✓Creating a bigger ripple effect, almost all of our students

curated debates on their own social network, increasing their change quotient.!✓Over 75% of the teams participating in the Bangalore edition of The

Bait had at least one member who was a current member of the 18minus XLR8 program. In fact, 2 out of the 4 members of the winning team from Bangalore were a part of the program, and not surprisingly, they went on to win the national finals and become the Champions of the country.

Criterion #2!COMMUNITY RESOURCES !

18minus believes in expending all possible community resources to achieve our vision keeping in the mind that

the environment, society or economy isn’t harmed.

18minus XRL8 Revenue Model EXECUTION!Owing to India’s massive population, 18minus believes in taking nominal payments from its customers - the legal minors - because the net income generated is integrated over a big scale. 18minus XLR8 is an online ecosystem for students to educate them regarding the understanding of nuances of politics, addressing social issues and managing finances for their organizations.!Registration is through a nominal fee of just 2 cents! Students will have access to a forum to express their opinion and propose solutions to topics of interest. If their opinion or solution “makes sense”, then other members have the option to “like” it to show their support. We gauge our impact using our own index, the change quotient. (CQ). An increase in the number of likes is a sign of an increasing CQ, and hence the student is provided opportunity to join the next tier and assimilate with articulate thinkers.!!INCOME!✓In the first 12 months itself, 18minus makes over 37,750$ dollars

ONLY from the XLR8 programth the 18minus population.)!

✓The operational cost for running the XLR8 Model is 5000$ (website hosting, Apache servers, CSS developers and portability programmers.)

Project #StopThisFelony EXECUTION!Our #StopThisFelony campaign united urban India as they came together to fight the heinous crime of rape. Teenagers were asked to send in their opinion, which was then compiled and sent to the Bangalorean Parliament as the official Voice of the Youth.!!IMPACT!✓The immediate impact was that people’s rage and anger

manifested into something tangible and constitutionally valid.!✓Our empowered volunteers took one step further, and played an

important role in organising protest marches and petition signing drives!!

✓The biggest impact however, was that the state government paid attention to our marches and released an official statement with strict guidelines that schools must follow to ensure safety of children.

Children rise through this pyramid. The higher they are, the more outreach they have, and as a result, the more they pay.

18minus Voices EXECUTION!18minus believes that the biggest and most expandable community resource is that of opinion. Opinions and ideas are infinite and are not limited by religion, caste, creed, etc. An idea cannot be killed and 18minus believes that utilisation of the opinion of people and of ideals is the biggest strength that lies within the community. !!This is why 18minus is a trailblazer in high school debates and think tanks, promoting and proliferating intellectual participation.!!INCOME!✓For sponsoring an inter-school debate with a participating crowd of

20 teams of 4 students each, we received a registration fee 10$ per team, without any sponsorship.!✓Our operational expenses (location logistics, auditorium acoustics,

printing t-shirts, publicity, brochures) together came up to 130$.

Criterion #3!SUSTENANCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Our organisation is a business that strives to meet a triple bottom line to ensure minimal negative impact on the environment, the society and the

economy.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY!18minus believes in reducing the carbon footprint by going paperless and using electronic correspondence wherever possible. !

Project #18minusGreen EXECUTION!Under this project, we created notebooks out of unused notebooks and blank paper that would have been unnecessarily discarded. We go to schools at the beginning of every academic year, and ask students to give us their old notebooks.!!Our volunteers then removed the unused paper, which is stitched by local cobblers to create 100 page notebooks, which are then sold to government schools for a nominal fee.!!IMPACT!✓ A better alternative to recycling as machine processing is not

required.!✓ There is empowerment of poor cobblers - an impetus to the local

economy.!✓ This promotes primary education of underprivileged and poor

children.!✓ We sold 100 notebooks for 1$ each.!✓ The sources of expenditure were limited to getting the pages

stitched.

Project #ClotheOurChildren EXECUTION!In this project, we aimed to provide low cost-environment friendly blankets to street children - with reflective tape stuck onto it to provide oncoming traffic a precautionary warning. Old clothes and plastic bags were collected from a community drive and stitched by local tailors, to create an insulating and water resistant blanket that could also be used a temporary tent or roof to provide shelter in the monsoon season.!!IMPACT!✓ Reusing plastic bags not only reduced land pollution but also

prevented flooding due to clogging of drains.!✓ Much needed warmth and comfort was provided to street

children.!✓ The reflective tape protected them from oncoming traffic and

accidental deaths. Street children felt more confident, and we then gave them free vocational training for better employment opportunities.

SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY!The very foundation of 18minus is to give back to the community directly by volunteering, and also indirectly by encouraging people and organizations to give charitable donations.!

#18minusConnect 18minus encourage community service as it makes use of local geographical and cultural conditions, making the solution of a problem more impactful and area-centric. Moreover, it acts as an opportunity for emotional bonding with local people and the environment.!!CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY!18minus has developing a cohesive and coherent partnership with other like minded organizations and entities - like the Bangalore Political Action Committee and the Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy - which leads to knowledge sharing and experience shouldering - two essential processes for achieving our dream of an inclusive government.!

Criterion #4!SUCCESSION AND DYNAMICS

The central administration of the organisation lies in the hands of people under the age of 18. However,

once these people do attain the age of 18, the administration moves on to the subordinates- the next

generation.

18minus Ripple EXECUTION!In less than 4 months of operation, 18minus has 48 core members, across three countries directly working for the organisation. They were all instructed to undertake Project Ripple, which was to create an 18minus vibe in their cities and encourage students to join the movement.!!IMPACT!✓Project Ripple was a big success as over 100 students all across the

world volunteered to help us realise our mission is some form or the other.

GREEN NOTEBOOKS!Given above is a photo of one of the notebooks made. It has a cover which is itself made of a newspaper. The 18minus logo, is written clearly in green ink for easy identification.

NEWSPAPER BAGS!Simple bags made out of old newspapers will be sold to residential colonies. Sanitary and other domestic waste will be specially disposed using these paper bags, and as they are marked with a red cross, it will help in waste segregation.

Succession Plan EXECUTION!The aim of 18minus is to create a fully functional body called the!18minus Parliament which would be the Official Voice of the Youth!and take all decisions pertaining to the interest of the youth. This!parliament is to consist of the 250 brightest minds in the country.!!Since a certain fraction of these 250 teenagers will turn 18 every!year, they will be replaced by younger deserving children - thus!keeping the 18minus ecosystem dynamic and fresh.!

!Growth and Globalisation! EXECUTION!18minus is currently operating in the city of Bangalore. We plan to expand to the four metropolises by October, and reach out to over 100,000 students nationwide by next May. Over the course of the next five years, we plan to expand within the country and reach 1 million members by May 2016. By the 2019 India National Election, we want to maintain a consistent reach of 1 million and more new members every year, and Go Global, targeting Singapore and the United States of America to start with.!!Essentially, the 18minus XLR8 model can be replicated in new settings of any country which wants to explore the role of their children in nation building, especially in underdeveloped and developing countries.!

Criterion #5!MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS

As an organisation that represents the youth, 18minus understands that utilisation of social media and mass

media would be of utmost importance and would provide us with easy accessibility to the youth. The very operating model of 18minus is internet-based!

Print Media !IMPACT!✓For it’s contributions towards youth empowerment and

democracy, 18minus was the subject of a front page cover article in India’s most reputed daily, The Deccan Chronicle.!

Online Presence on Social Media EXECUTION!18minus is extremely active on all the popular social networks - Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Various experts often give webinars and chats on Hangouts with our members. A large part of our movement to empower the youth focuses on engaging the youth in meaningful!conversation on the internet. We also have our own website (18minus.org) which garners attention from both children and adults alike.!!IMPACT!✓We use social media as a self judging criterion: the ever increasing

number of likes, shares and retweets are a testimony to the fact that our content is top class.!✓Our effective reach as per Facebook Analytics is over 10,000 and

counting. !
